Steph's Journey

I have always weighed about 5-10 kg more than anyone would think & have been told I "carry my weight well". I think, with me, it means my weight is distributed all over my body fairly and isn't as obvious as it is on some people. I think doctors can be just as tactless as the next person. I think you are doing really well & if you can continue to lose at a steady rate & have an active job you'll continue doing well. Both my doctor & my cardio don't want me doing IF, especially not delaying breakfast, but I at least aim for 12 hours each day without any food. No nighttime snacking is what I have cut out.

I try very hard not to snack after my evening activities. I am very much driven by routine. After dinner i go walk or hit the stationary bike. Its true that it helps the digestion..i feel less heavy after eating if i walk or bike.
I actually got back from my walk a little bit ago and i was marvelling at my time. I didnt feel like i was pushing hard but i still made good time.
Maybe its time to step it up a notch!

An evening snack has always been a planned part of my diet (tonight is an exception). I don't think its a bad thing, and for me evenings have always been my weak point, I find it better to just feed it.

Good for you! Stepping it up never hurts.

Years of favoring that foot because of pain probably lead those muscles to be less flexible then the other leg muscles.
Either that or just a little weaker. If the bike allows your weaker leg to work more than it's used to that could easily explain the cramping.
Great to hear your walking speed is getting better already! Oh, and about carrying your weight well I'd agree with Cate and Err.

Hi Steph,

great to hear your story and thank you for such a detailed insight into your current situation. Firstly, about the doctor's comment, I wouldn't have a clue what they meant when they said that comment - it doesn't really make any sense. If anything, as alligator bob said, take it as a compliment!

When it comes to your foot injury - it is important to continue to listen to your body. So elevating and using ice can be a good start to managing the pain you are experiencing. I would suggest to touch base with a physiotherapist/physical therapist or even a podiatrist just in case. If you do have any concerns feel free to message me.

LaMa makes a good point, I have discovered that a lot of my aches and pains have subsided with weight loss and exercise. Slowly gaining strength is a great thing for the body. My feet also hurt a bit, but a whole lot less than they did, I am sure you can improve yours. Keep up the good work!

So i am feeling incredibly fatigued today. I just slammed down a second cup of coffee..something i don't do often.
It might be a combination of a few things:
- rainy dreary weather making me feel a bit stiff and blah
- the fact that im on day ten in a row working without a day off, and 3 more to go
-pushing myself too hard on monday, still feeling soreness in my one leg (have been lightly stretching it every hour or so)
Ive been contemplating making today a rest day and do something on saturday instead. I feel like that might go by the wayside though because i might not feel up for it after working 13 days in a row.
What to do...what to do...

Nothing wrong with the rest day, in fact I think it is a good idea.

Working 14 days in a row sounds hard, what do you do? Do you get a long break after that? I know a lot of the Louisiana offshore oil workers do long on stretches, but they do get good breaks in between.

Hang in there girl, you are off to a great start!

Retail management. I'll get sunday off coming up but then right back to it monday morning. I dont remember the last time i had 2+ days off in a row....maybe last fall?
I work for an independent owner of a small convienence store. (Hes got 2 stores)
I basically run this store for him but hes been working alot more since we lost a guy last May.
I dont really get time off unless i ask for it. I get some paid time off, but i cant see taking any significant time off..id get bored.

I hope more people weigh in on the rest day..id like to see what people think on it. The more i think about it..i want to keep pushing but i dont want to burn out by the end of the week.

Hey Steph -

I would definitely take a rest day and just watch your calorie intake. I think you need a plan that's sustainable, and that should include time for your body to rest and recover.

I'm not too sure if it will help in your case, but I've started supplementing vitamin D since the days have been getting shorter (here in Canada) and it has definitely been helping with my mood.

This week has been out of the ordinary. Usually no one bothers me for work stuff on my day off, let alone actually working on my day off. I suppose i have to make some allowances for when screwy things happen.
Ill check into the vitamin D. I am already taking a multivitamin and i have to check the amount (if any) that is in that first.

One more vote for a rest day. When you're just starting a new exercise routine your body really needs the extra rest. Your body can't work and build itself up simultaneously.

See..this is why i needed to be here. I need outside opinions or ill run myself into the ground.
Rest day it is...but im still gonna do housework...light housework. Lol

A little late to the party, but I also vote for a rest day or a day with very very light activity. I prefer the later just so I don't get out of the routine of doing *something*

Yea, I've found myself a bit restless already and I've only been home for an hour and a half. Working on dinner already and doing some housework.
I kind of cheated and stepped on the scale...i don't know if i should post unofficial results though. Haha

Yea im trying to take it with a grain of salt. It might make me complacent or think i can fudge my calories a bit.Its only been since Sunday that i had my last weigh in.
Also, i dont know how i feel about losing more than 3 pounds a week. I want to push myself but i dont want to lose weight in an unhealthy way.

Just keep doing what you have been doing. It will slow as you get lower. I think it's best to only weigh once a week as fluctuations do my head in, but I need to get on those scales every week or I'm inclined to get slack. It's such a fine balance.
No fudging, Steph. Operation get healthy.....we can do it!
