Steph's Journey

That sucks so much! It's really hard not to comfort eat when everything piles up like that. Maybe pick one comforting thing for dinner? Pizza OR french fries instead of both? Just to avoid the added stress of bloat and gi-distress. Hugs if you need them and I hope things get back on the rails for you.

Hey Steph, this explains a bit of your weight gain, most of it is probably the monthly water thing. I hope you are able to get back on the wagon, and are feeling better. How are things the morning after Thanksgiving?

Thanks for all the kind words and support guys and gals! I wanted to give you guys the extended version of what happened this week.
Two months ago i had to buy a new used car because mine needed too much work and was pretty much shot. I ended up buying a 20 year old jeep from my mechanic of 10 years. I gave him my old car for scrap and paid him 1200 dollars for a total of 1500 for the jeep. I thought this was a bit high but considering that it was his family car and he had been maintaining it himself i thought it was a sound investment of my funds.
Fast forward to this past monday. My dad was running an errand and on his way back he said the whole back end of the jeep started wobbling like he hit a patch of ice. I told him to get it home and we would tow it to the mechanic on tuesday. I brought it to work on tuesday and had it towed down there. The mechanic calls my dad about an hour and a half later and tells him that the frame is broken. He proceeds to offer him 300 dollars which is what he would get if he scraps it. Since it is my car my dad called me.
Needless to say there were a lot of unkind words said on my part in regards to the mechanic.
The fact that i only had the car two months and he didnt even offer my money back speaks volumes. I think he knew that frame was going. I wasnt out there offroading the jeep on the weekends and i barely put 500 miles on the thing in that 2 months. I dont trust myself with calling the mechanic personally so i told my dad to ask for my money back. Hes going to call him either today or monday. I have to arrange to get the car back to my house and see if i can get a second opinion. So right now i technically have no car, no money and no way to get another car.
So i have been walking the half of a mile to and from work. That doesnt sound bad until i explain the conditions. I live on a major state route that has very little lighting and only half of that walk has sidewalks. I have a hi visibility vest and headlamp with strobe functionality to make my walks safer. I walk to work at 5:30 am when it is still fully dark.
The walk home isnt so bad since its daylight.

So everything after that went sideways diet wise. I have been eating salty crap and pretty much not giving a shit. Ive lost 2 weeks of weight loss progress in the span of 3 days. Im disappointed with myself but the plus side is im off cigarettes and am only smoking a vape pen.

I am trying to look at this whole thing positively. I told my dad i was thankful still on Thanksgiving because he could have been driving on the highway at 60 mph when the jeep had its malfunction. Things could have been a lot worse. My customers have also been helpful. Everyone is trying to look out for me and give me advice. A lot of them know cars or know people in the car industry so they are keeping eyes out for used cars for sale and such. I am going to assess the damage on the jeep and see if it is fixable. If it is not...i guess i get to have a car payment for the first time in my life haha.(ive only ever bought cars outright with cash)

Im going to get back on track with the diet..i have to. I dont like losing so much progress in such a short time.

Well im bummed with the weight gain. But overall im ok. Trying to maintain a positive attitude. The stress is less now that i have accepted the situation and have something of a plan in the works.
How was your Thanksgiving?

What a scummy thing to do! I hope it comes back to bite him in the backside. Or even better: I hope he gives you your money back. About the weight: you know that 1-2 kg of that gain is likely water from all that salt, right?

Yea i figured it was water weight. I havent tracked my calories in 2 days but i know i havent exceeded so much to cause that much gain. Still makes me a bit sad.

As far as the mechanic goes...he can do the decent thing or not. If he doesnt i firmly believe karma will handle it.

I really do hope he gives you your money back, but he sounds like a rogue. I'm glad that the car didn't collapse with either your Dad or you driving it.

I'm sorry Steph.

I wouldn't be so sure that your mechanic knew the frame was going to break in just two months - I'd imagine a 20 year old $1500 Jeep has a fair amount of rust down there and unless you poked and prodded, you probably wouldn't know whether it was surface or deeper structural rust. I'd appeal to his better side and, if he can't or won't refund some of your money, see if maybe he'd be willing to pitch in some labor to help patch up your Jeep enough to drive while you save for something newer. I'm guessing it is a Cherokee, so maybe something like this would get you through the winter: Rust Buster Unibody Stiffeners for 84-01 Jeep Cherokee XJ

So..it seems my weight is starting to even back out..its going in the right direction at least. Im starting to get back on track. Ive got back to tracking calories again and cutting the junk out. Weighed today at 327.2.

On the car front, im having the mechanic take pics on monday and sending those to my body guy for assessment. So we wont know anything till monday.

Just an update...i had the fun and excitement of walking to work in a blizzard today lol
I think im slowly getting back on track still. I weighed this morning and im at 324.8.

I haven't had a cigarette since last Wednesday or Thursday and honestly i dont miss them. Ive been slowly pushing back the time when i take that first puff on my vape because normally id smoke first thing in the morning. Today i waited until i got to work.

Nothing new on the car front. The mechanic never sent over pics so i think i might have to uber down there myself.

Well done on the no smoking! Walking in a blizzard sounds unpleasant and kind of dangerous  I hope the weather improves.

Well done on not smoking cigarettes, Steph. Is the aim to cut down on vaping as well after a while & then cutting that out? I hope your car gets sorted soon.

Yep thats exactly it. My dad quit smoking last year and im following suit. Its time and im ready.
On the car front..its still bad from the mechanic..hes being a real piece of work so im going to a dealership on Friday about a new car.

Just a quick update for yall. Sorry ive been mostly absent. Its been hectic.
The quitting smoking is going good. Ive been slowly cutting back and will probably move from vaping to the nicotine patch by the end of the month.
Ive moved away from the meticulous food weighing and calorie counting. I have a good grasp of things and am easing off of it while i quit smoking. This is just so i dont burn out on one thing or the other, because doing both would drive me crazy.
The nice thing is, im now looking at calories and weighing the worth of food more than weighing the ounces or grams.

On the car side: the frame is not worth fixing.
2 weeks ago i went to a dealer and got a used car. 24 hours after i drove it off the lot i ended up with a 400 dollar check engine light. So its been stressful and i cant seem to win right now with cars.

Im keeping positive though. And supportive guy is still in the picture so hes been a great help. I'll update you guys again when i can!
