Squats, pulls, and curls

yeah, that clean and jerk got kinda high, I usually catch it lower when I do cleans though.

The power clean was a high catch :p

And I can see my heels are not really on the ground while I catch, but had I been wearing shoes with more of a heel..
I'm definitely gonna get my hands on some shoes. I just need to figure out exactly what size I am.

Tell me, is getting shoes that are a bit to big a complete disaster? Problem is, I'm anything from 46-48 (Euro size) depending on how big the sizes of the shoe are. I'd pretty much have to gamble when ordering online. (now I do have the right to send back anything bought on the internet if it doesn't fit, but that's a whole lot of stress right there :p) so should I go for high or low? and darn, weightlifting shoes are expensive. I only found 2 sites so far that are selling them.

So far these are the ones I'm leading towards:
Adidas Ironworks 2. The text is in Norwegian but you can look at the pictures :p

Another place has some other shoes called "Do-win" this site isn't primarily focused on selling stuff and it's just a "call us or something and we can supply you with these shoes"
 
Oh and some more things:
When you catch, are you suppose to land with your heels first, or on the balls of your feet then quickly going down to your heels (like you would land naturally after jumping straight up)

Also, the dip on the jerk. Are you just suppose to bend the knees, nothing at the hip?

Just call the company selling them and ask if the sized run big or small. They should know their product well enough to answer that question.

Adidas Ironworks 2.

Adidas are good shoes. I have had a couple of pairs of them. They should last a long time.

Now that you are getting more into the Oly lift. The lifts are nothing like jumping. (I know, everyone tells you that when you are learning. And it works in the beginning. Once you start getting better, though, it becomes less and less like a jump) You shouldn't be moving from ball to heel or vise-versa. Just land. Catching a clean has little to do with your feet and everything to do with getting into a squat position fast.

Also, you don't want to leave the ground. If you rise onto your toes or not, if you leave the ground you lose time where you should be pulling yourself back under the bar. Sliding your feet out a little is ok. But, if you watch good lifters you will see that most do not move the feet in and out much at all, they pull the weight and are right back on the way down.

Also, the dip on the jerk. Are you just suppose to bend the knees, nothing at the hip?

It's both. You have no power if you just bend the knee. If you are able to keep your whole foot in contact with the floor you will get a lot more push out of the movement.

I had some distractions when writing this post. Let me know if anything does not make sense.
 
hmm.. I've found that shoes are way cheaper in other countries. It might actually be worth the extra porto and the Norwegian customs..
I've been looking at
they got Ironworks 2 and they got adiSTAR Weightlifting 2004 too, which is more expensive but the price is still cheaper than in Norway. It's a German site though.. my german sucks, but I understand numbers and I'm sure I could just email the guy if there is something I don't understand.

Does anyone know of any cheap internet sites that sell weightlifting shoes? In the UK, US, wherever?
 
I'm thinking about either Adidas ironworks 2 or adidas adiStar weightlifting. The ironworks is cheaper but I can afford them both. Is there a big difference between these shoes? Is one "better" like, more evolved, etc than the other or is it just a matter of personal preference?

I can get them both at half the price here: than they sell them for in Norway :p (partly because the dollar value is so very low right now) the most expensive one will be just above the limit so that I have to pay tax (anything over 1000 NOK you have to pay tax when buying abroad) but I can probably get the guys at the shop to say that it was 999 NOK and still charge me the true price just to escape that tax.
 
I think you will be happy with either shoe. I think the difference is a matter of preference, bu I also think that a more advanced lifter will notice the difference more.

That being said, you are ordering from abroad so I would get the adiStar since you will probably not be making another weightlifting shoe purchase any time soon and those will last a very, very long time.
 
yeah. Most adidas shoes have the same size sizes, right? So if I try a random adidas shoe at a random store and it fits, then I know the size I should go for?

After some advice I changed my jerk technique (It's been long overdue, really) this made it easier to split my legs and get under the bar. The weakness is still supporting the bar once overhead.

My work capacity is not good here. I should be able to do more sets at 132 but it gets tough pretty fast. Gonna have to work on improving the number of sets with that weight before I move on to a higher weight I think.

I started using straps at the single. My hands are getting ripped up, I've had a sore on my finger now for a very long time and it just needs to heal. One exercise with straps shouldn't hurt my grip much, besides, it's one of those exercises where straps are allowed :p

Upping the weight felt OK here. The single was damn hard, other than that, pretty OK. I'm going lower now too, and I'm gonna have to take a video to see if my back bends. Lowered the weight to get my form better. I go deeper, get to stretch my hams more, belly between the legs, all that helps a lot. specially getting my belly between the legs, that's sorta the key. (I don't use the typical narrow stance)

1. In your RDL video, aren't you supposed to deload the weight on the ground and then pick it up again?

Pop and drop was advice on the jerk. Not the clean. :D

doesn't popping refer to popping the hip into the bar on the clean? wth is popping on the jerk? So what I did on the clean was correct?

And you can do the RDL from the floor, I do it from the top there. If I am to deload I need something to elevate the bar since I'll bend my back if I take it all the way to the floor.

Oh, because i've been deloading it on the ground every rep, thought thats how your supposed to do it hence the "deadlift"
 
Pretty much all lifts can be done in many different ways. The RDL from the top and not touching the ground or deloading on anything else is just one variation.

I suppose it could be applied to the clean. Popping is different for the clean though because it is a larger range of motion. So it is a bit different.

Popping the jerk is what you are not doing. You are doing more of a "lower, rise up at a medium pace, then split the feet and catch the bar." When it is more of a drop, pop, drop. type of movement.

So what I did on the clean was correct?

I like the concept of the pop and drop on the clean. The idea makes most people not finish the pull. (which you found out) The "pop" would be the explosive completion of the pull. Not just the initial "pop" of the hips. If that makes sense.
 
that makes sense. but then again, I'm kinda alcoholized right now.

so, on the clean when you do the initial drop, I kinda drop, then pause a bit, then explode upwards, are you suppose to go down then quickly explode up while the bar is still going down, sorta, so you kinda hit the bar on the way up? or what? I'm gonna have to get a new vid of my jerk up. k thanks :p
