Sparrows Experiment

NO energy today and yucky throat. Did church, came home and crashed. Had a cat nap and just bummed the rest of the day. Was going to try the gym...thought better of it. I will start my week fresh tomorrow after a good sleep *knocks on wood*

none of my diet was precise but here is the idea of it
b-bite of scone, 1/2 parm. cheese bagel (GROSS but I missed breakfast on the way out again), coffee w/1t french vanilla creamer and splenda
l-large chicken breast w/ ff sr cream and sprinkled parm cheese on top, swig of chocolate milk
s-1/4c light ice cream, few chips
d-1 regular chicken breast, some chow mein, come kung pao chicken and veggies, some broccoli from broccoli beef ("some"=2-3 bites)

Tomorrow's a new day! Stay positive. :)

Had trouble sleeping last night cause of a tickle cough that kept me from deep sleep. I had some WEIRD dreams.
Kids are finally back at school so its just me and the little one.

I'm not eating entirely well today but I'm finding that if I let my diet slip just a little I actually do better in the gym...for now until the race it'll be fine. After that I may tighten up on it all.

I decided to try and run today:
30 min 7.6 (7:48 mile pace), 30 min level 10 elliptical
bicep dumbell curls
dips (bar and bench)
overhead extentions
seated row
standing row
assisted pull ups (these went better today JP)

my intent was to do the entire 10K paced again but when my shins started nagging about half way though I thought better safe than sorry. I had a good 30 min clip. I felt great and could have gone faster so that was encouraging. If that happens during the race I can push through it. I just don't want to damage myself for that day.

b-1/2 c 2% milk, 1/2 water, 1 scoop whey mixed in, 1/4 c whole grain cheerios
l-1/2c broccoli (from broccoli beef chinese food), 1 chicken breast w 2 T ff sr cream and sprinkle of parm cheese (for some reason I'm loving that combo), 1/4c white rice

Sick today. Haven't been able to shake it so I better just be still. I'm in my cozies and not planning on going anywhere anytime soon.
b-handful go lean crunch cereal
s/l-1c 2% milk, 1 scoop whey
d-1 plain chicken breast, 1c broccoli with 1T parm cheese
1/4 slice pizza (its what the fam had)
diet cherry pepsi
s-1/4c roasted pumpkin seeds (this is just about the only part of halloween I like!)

Still coughing like a maniac. I'm attempting the gym in the afternoon today. I'm treating this week like a taper, its all I can do to keep from feeling guilty about not running much. Monday I did 30 min HIIT and 30 min elliptical, yesterday I took off and today I will do 5x400s @ 5K pace on the tread with walking recovery and some light chest weights. Thats like NOTHING but the speed work should keep me in the game for the weekend. Tomorrow I'll go down to 4x400s, Friday will be 3x400s and Saturday I'll take off before the race Sunday.

Yesterday:
stretch
1/2 mile walk warm up 4.0
1/2 mile run warm up 6.5
.25mi (400)@8.0 pace
walk recovery until heart rate was 115
.25mi@ 9.0 (6:40pace)
walk recovery
.25mi@9.1 (6:35 pace)
walk recovery
.25@9.1
walk recovery
weights:
bench press bar+10lbs 3x15
shoulder/chest machine (i have no clue what its called) 50lb 3x12
decline boy push ups from flat bench 3x8
Abs:
jackknifes on stability ball holding pike for 3-5 sec 3x15

After workout I felt fine, not depleated like normal. BUT later in the night I regretted doing it. I was so wiped out. Had a terrible sleep coughing and not even nyquil took it away. So pair extreme fatigue from the medicine with a cough that won't quit...makes you wanna cry. I slept in a little, as much as my kids let me. Have no appetite again:( I'm trying though. Yesterday I think grand total was 800ish.

25 min treadmill 4.0 walking (5 min at lv 10 incline) then I had a coughing fit so I got off

I weighed myself today which was OHHH so dumb. I do NOT know whats up. I don't even want to put the number on here. What I know is that I am eating pretty much the same (a few days were less cals), very healthy over all, lots of protein and I am gaining weight again. Granted, I am not training at the rate I was before, at all. BUT its not like I'm eating OVER calories for my activity, at ALL, or eating any junk that should put the number I saw today on the scale. I'm very discouraged. Whats funny is that this morning, the only reason I weighed was that I actually felt thinner. I also know this can't be muscle weight cause I'm lifting a maintenance load right now. nothing that would put on lean mass. Anyway, its screwing with my head.

You're still sick though aren't you? I'd say the number isn't valid because your body is trying to fight off what's ailing and detox. Water retention, swelling etc could be factors you can't see but would affect your weight. I'd say disregard it and weigh yourself again a good week after you're feeling better.

I agree with Stingo it may just be a variation. You know you shouldn't focus on the number ;-) Glad you are feeling better.

Missy

yeah I do. I actually rarely weigh anymore so this was a HUGE shock. I've really done nothing different

Terrible weekend. I vacillated between going and staying home since the race was 2 hours away and I felt like crap up till the moment of decision. The stubborn side of me gave in and I went despite being totally sleep deprived for a week and having a fever. I'm a moron, I know. I had also pulled a muscle in my back the night before because of coughing so hard so that was hurting when I would even so much as take a deep breath.
I met my friend at the race and tried to get my head into it. I hadn't done much visualization of it, which is a major no no for me. I only succeed when I go over something a thousand times in my brain. I hadn't had time for that since i'd been so distracted with sickness. I also didn't warm up before my race because it was split second timing once I got there (it was really foggy that morning, took a long time to drive). Anyway, I went out too fast. I couldn't feel my pace, I was freezing to death and I was so concentrated on my shin pain that I just couldn't get into what I was supposed to do. 7:04. yes, that was my first mile. lol. 7:15 was my second, 7:23 was my third and then there was water. I was really hurting everywhere at that point. It was certainly not a pace I could maintain for another 3 miles but I knew I COULD back off and maintain an 8min pace and still be under goal time. So I tried that, I went slower....and after water I got another mile down at 7:55 pace and my ears started ringing, I got all chilly and clammy and I knew I was going to throw up. Luckily this was a massive park we were running in. I did my duty in the bushes, stripped my ipod off, rolled up my sleeves, and surrendered as I walked. I was so upset. My friend who was far behind me finally caught up with me and I ran in with her (she was holding 9 min miles) and that was fine. I ran in at 53 minutes. lol. I think had I been a little WISER i would have shattered my goal time. You live, you learn. I shouldn't have even been there, I was sick and stupid.
ANyway, I'm hanging up the running shoes for a while. I'm demotivated to go for anything more at this point and I'm tired of injuries! I was following Lance Armstrong (he just ran the NYC marathon) and it talked about how he is so stalky and muscular-so in contrast to the guys who are winning this thing. He felt like his weight (180 from 165 in his tour de france days) was really a hinderance. I TOTALLY feel that too. I feel like even if I could lose 5 pounds it would make a difference in my running. Today I was 133. I don't usually feel too "light" on my feet and as a runner, lightness is definitly an advantage.

SO anyway, thats my sob story ;) I'm taking a few days off, maybe the whole week just to recouperate and get over whatever I've got since its not really going away. Then I need to find a new something to strive for.

Hey, don't be so down on yourself, you competed sick with a URI! I honestly think you did great considering the circumstances ;-)

Yeah it may be a good idea to take a couple of days off. I'm sure your body will appreciate it. Just remember to try and keep your diet as healthy as you can. :p

B-handful dry cheerios
l-2c cauliflower mashed and mixed with 2T ff sr cream, parm cheese, 1 small chicken breast, 2 bites whole wheat pasta
s-1 string cheese, 1 ww lc tortilla, 1/2 T pb
d-chicken soup w/ 1 chicken breast, cut up veggies
s-green tea

I actually went to the gym today. I feel loads better, I'm not sore or anything, my pulled muscle in my back VANISHED. I kid you not, I prayed hard about it because it was SO painful and it disappeared moments later :D The cough is totally better. I have been taking benadryl cold and allergy and its gotten so much better and I'm sleeping. I did 45 min on the elliptical and 10 min of moving stairs followed by bis/back. I'm felt so lost in the gym today with no goal at the forefront of my mind! Its been almost a year of continuous goals! Anyway, just happy to feel better. That was wicked.
