Sparrows Experiment

How caring and considerate FF ;)

He actually did that for me already, but it didn't help much...or maybe I'd feel worse right now if he hadn't!

yeah tsil it hurts a lot today too, but I went to the gym and did SPIN CLASS! At first I coudln't put ANY resistance on my bike. It hurt so flippin much but as I warmed up I was able to add more and more and even stand up for "power runs" every now and then. It was still really light but it was great to MOVE those muscles. Then I did upper body weights and abs. I can at least bend my left knee today. yesterday I couldn't at all.

I'm looking around for the next goal.

Start to keep those legs moving but I wouldn't run on them.

Saw your note on the whey protein powder. I'll give that a shot. I have to be able to incorporate it into my routine easily though. For example, if I can conveniently buy it, it will be an easy substitute. But if it's difficult to acquire, I'll just pickup some more Ensure.

Coulda been a full body ;)

You're next goal? Half Ironman....errr....woman?

Yeah I did that last year and planned on it again. I did Barb's Race in the Napa area. I was looking around for something unique and I stayed up late wrapped up in active.com. There are a lot of fun things on there :)

I gotta go swim or I'm going to miss my window of opportunity. be back later...

Is ensure soy based? Soy tastes WAY better than whey. I used to use "carb solutions" vanilla and it was SO good. I think whey is just assimilated better, is all. Vanilla whey also tastes much different brand to brand so hopefully you find something you like. In the long run it'll be much cheaper than ensure.

eeks...they're all Iron in some form! I've gotta get over my fear of failure in that thing. Honestly. Thanks for the link.

Today swam 3200 in the hour. I couldn't push off walls for half of it, but then my legs woke up a little and I could use a little more force. They feel so fragile. I can finally climb my stairs with BOTH legs but I'm still relying on the banister a lot. Feel MUCH better than the past 2 days though.

Don't think of them as iron, think 70.3 -- so much friendlier that way... don't you think? ;)

yeah 70 miles is a walk in the park :)

I actually LOVED LOVED LOVED that half distance. I want to tackle it again..just maybe not in the heat this time...or maybe I train more in the heat...yeah..thats what I'll do.

45 min spin class and I felt fantastic. I wanted to push even harder...but by then the class was over :) I tried to run slowly on the tread after that and I couldn't . My knee hurt and my legs just weren't taking anything above a 12 min mile pace! so I slowed and walked. I'll wait a few more days. I did a few upper body weights and core instead

I thought that would be the case where you wouldn't be able to run this quickly after!(Part of my PM to you) You might try water running after your swim workouts... It will reduce the stress on your legs while getting them back to the running motion.

yes it may be a little while. My knees are the ones that feel the most chewed up. I had been having problems with them before the race though.

Today I'm taking off. I did more than I thought I would this week anyway and I got a bit fluish feeling last night. Just laying low for the weekened. Hopefully by Monday I'll feel way more recovered.

Course I couldn't wait till Monday. I decided to go out and see how things felt this evening. I went slow (no choice in the matter!) and at first felt pretty good. I planned on 4 miles but by 2 my legs felt like they did at the end of the marathon. really heavy, sore and "unpushable" so I stopped at 3 with around a 9:07 pace. Walked that 4th one. Its amazing how long it takes to get back to just running a few stinkin miles. :(

thats cause running 26.2 miles causes your body to go into an immune response due to the level of trauma the muscles are enduring but doing what you're doing is exactly how to correct the issues. :)

How tall are you FF?

Today I swam 3000 and felt super strong. Legs are almost completely back to normal...until I run again :)

Had a good workout today. Worked hard in spin class for an hour and then did a slower 30 min jaunt on the treadmill. I still cannot push the pace past 9 min mile and I can't go further than 3. Its crazy. I did a few weights and core after that. Eating clean and feeling great.

One wonders why you're trying.
