Skinny Jeans

The models just look kind of silly. I mean it works for a photo-shoot where there's fancy lighting and scenery, but in real life it just looks weird. There are lots of strange fashions like that. Imagine if everyone wore what we see on the runway. We would all look like idiots.

i understand what you are saying about runway vs. real life but c'mon, there's nothing crazy or unrealistic about the lighting and there's not even a person to look at -- its just legs and jeans!

ok yeah, they are models but that doesn't matter. i don't really understand why they look "silly." what about them looks silly?

why is it that you have a problem understanding what it means to answer a question?

It's funny that you in fact answered her question with a question of your own, showing that you too have a problem understanding what it means to answer a question.

Some people just have different tastes in clothing, you can't always explain why "it looks weird" to you, just that it does.

On really skinny girls - it looks bad. But on a girl with nice legs...they look great IMO. There is this one girl I know that wouldn't be caught dead in jeans, but shes hot so it doesn't matter much =] lol

But yeah, I think skin tight jeans look great on girls that aren't twigs or entire trees lol. Just something in the middle and they look awesome.

On guys...not at all. I don't wear them/never will wear them. I don't wear gangsta' jeans either (really baggy) I just wear straight leg jeans.

first of all, i was asking spicypumkin if she would elaborate on her response and i'm pretty damn sure she's capable of doing so. in fact, she's always answered my questions with conviction and with her personal beliefs at the forefront. she and i are cool and actually have a good time debating with each other. booya!

to AZN_Dave, all i can say is this: if you make a statement but can't explain what it means, then what the f@ck is the point in responding? you've basically said nothing. what kind of answer is "i can't explain why..." -- it's NOT an answer because is meaningless. it literally means nothing. everyone has ideas and feelings about every opinion that they have. there's no such thing as "you can't always explain why". that's bs. do you think that ideas and opinions and feelings come out of thin air? c'mon now. all i did was ask spicypumkin for more clarification. i wasn't rude...it was question to her, plain and simple and as i just said, i'm damn sure she is capable of responding to it.

derwyddon, all of the sudden, you have issues with me or my questioning (i don't know why) but, whatever. all i have to say is that you have no obligation to respond to my threads. let's just leave it at that and call it a day. and for the record, i'm not fishing for specific responses -- i'm trying to continue to facilitate discussion because it interests me and i am interested in what people have to say -- that's why i started this thread in the first place. the fact that i ask questions is just part of having a discussion and there are questions that continually come to mind as i'm reading and processing the responses. people in this forum tend to take on my questions and actually come up with thoughtful responses and i appreciate all of them, regardless of whether i agree or not. that's what it's all about - it's called "having a discussion."

Honestly, that was my particular take on it, I don't tihnk you can explain some things. And people can perfectly convey what their statment "means" without introducing the process by which they came upon that statement.

I dind't say you were rude, and I didn't say spicypumpkin wasn't capable of explaining it. I simply thought it hypocritical and immature on your part to ask derwyddon why she has a "problem understanding what it means to answer a question?" when you yourself did not bother to answer her question.

I don't like to use this forum as a way to start confrontations ONLINE with people I don't even know. Possibly the dumbest waste of my time ever. So I'll leave it at that.

Whether or not I like a certain fashoin is not a huge life issue that I need to elaborate on. I just don't like how they look. Some people don't like seafood, I love it. I could ask them why they don't like it and try to figure it out, but it would be useless. Different people have different tastes. There isn't any particular thing I don't like about them, I just don't like them. It has nothing to do with the thinness of the models or anything. I just don't like how that style of pants looks. Period. Nothing to elaborate on.

I'm not saying people shouldn't wear them, its their choice. I just don't like how it looks, so I won't wear them myself.

Just like people have different tastes in food, people have different tastes in fashion.

if you look at all the threads that i've started, i've posed a question that interests me and then i let others respond. i never say my opinion at first but of course i have an opinion. i let others discuss and then i jump in when i have questions about what people have to say. why would i ask questions to people who i agree with? what would be the point in that?

i've learned from people here and i have a good time debating. i think i have a right to do so in my own threads.

and, if you read over the threads that i've started, i think you'll see this pattern. i'm a bit insulted by the fact that you said that i'm looking for specific responses because i've always asked questions instead of assuming what others are thinking. i allow people to explain themselves so that i get a better idea of what they are trying to say and their perspective. and, i'd rather ask a billion questions than make one assumption about another person's beliefs.

you say that "i gloss over the responses that i'm not looking for" -- in what way? in my last relevant post in this thread, i summarized the responses then i posed a question to the entire group. i asked: "do you all think those three models look bad (from my initial post)?" - that was to everyone.

then spicypumkin was the only person who answered, so i asked her for clarification.

what did i "gloss over?"

It kind of sucks coming onto this site sometimes. It seems like you people create a big argument over the smallest ****ing thread/question/response. It's the internet people, calm down. Theres alot more important things in life lol

Merciless, you're right. My bad.

Anyway, thanks for leaving a comment about the jeans. I totally feel you! I tend to think that average or toned/muscular women look better in skinny jeans than waifs. I'm not sure why so many women in general (not necessarily on this site) think you have to be ultra thin to wear them. I know that celebs/models wear them and are thin but I see a lot of women around the way who are more toward the average size and they look hot!

Otherwise, it's cool if people don't personally like the style. It's natural that people won't like every style. But, for the women out there who would like to wear them, I hope that they won't let their size discourage them from shopping around. There are a lot of different styles and brands of skinny jeans and as with anything else, it just takes some effort to find the right pair for your body (and the pair that its within your own personal style).

Aeonteal, I think that last post was the first post I've every seen you use capitals in your posts.

That being said, I don't like 'skinny jeans' at all, or at least I don't like that style of jeans. Is that their style name? I think they look uncomfortable; I hate the ankle-tight taper at the bottom.

Throw on a pair of those boots in your upper pics shown in this thread, tease the hair up high, throw tons of gawd-awful make up on and I'm having nightmares about late 80s and early 90s glam rock.

My vote goes to haeting them.

yeah, the capitals thing. i did that consciously because i think i was trying to be more clear (after the long back and forth situation) -- somehow that translated into using capitals letters.

anyway, i also hated the tapered leg thing and it took me some time to get used to even seeing them in any sort of attractive light. i mean, i had been wearing flared jeans for at least 13 years at this point! but, it's not so uncommon that i'll eventually change my mind and like a style that i once hated. one reason for this might be that in the last two places that i've lived (tokyo & currently nyc), people wear a lot of things that are "in style" and there's so much exposure to it that it becomes normal and no longer trendy. so the more exposure i get to a particular style, the more i see average people who look good in that style, the more likely i am to think the style is attractive etc (you get the point). i think if had hardly seen them or only saw them on guys, then i personally wouldn't like them because my first impression was that the jeans were horrible. i mean, they on the extreme side in terms of tightness. (this last paragraph is obviously an assessment of myself.)

regarding, glam rock, yeah man, so many styles today are influenced by the 80's. i actually really like the 80's but i don't necessarily want to go so far as to say i like the glam rock style but i don't hate it either. but i definitely think the 80's were really cool -- great nostalgia and because it was pretty unique. i love john hughes, new wave (depeche mode/new order), and i think people had amazing style and originality. but, yeah, there was also some dumba$$ sh$t, too! haha.

speaking of which...super high waisted jeans are making a comeback! so it looks like jeans are going from super low cut to super high. should be interesting. i guess the next thing will be acid washed and spandex. yay! j/k (no, but seriously, i did hear that acid washed are actually coming back!)

I don't think you have to be thin to wear "skinny jeans." It really depends on your body type though. Of course, if you are overweight, wearing tight jeans will make you look weird, and not to mention you'll probably feel uncomfortable and you'll probably rip them. Coming to think about it, one time I was wearing a pair of jeans, and I went to take a test, and I sat down in a chair too small for me and I ripped the pockets since it got caught in the armrest. Imagine my embarrassment as I slowly sat down and heard the rips.

Well, I admit that I LOVE my skinny jeans. PERSONALLY, I think they look sexy as hell with a pair 4 inch stiletos. The pictures you posted are basicaly what I dress like on weekends/casual Friday's-including the boots over the skinny jeans in the winter.

But then again that is my style-my opinion. I wear heels everywhere, I'm one of those people who was born with heels on LOL. On weekends I wear wedged sandals, I only own TWO pairs of flipflops which I wear around the house and 2 pairs of running shoes for the gym.

I also own boot cut jeans and wear them with boots-my second favorite type of shoe. Maybe it is the 80s/90s in me but I love that style.

I'm also into the high waisted skirt/tight white blouse look or the 40s inspired dresses with the belt at the waist. I love fashion and I love to dress up since I work in an office dressing up is ideal for me.

I will admit though, only certain body types can pull off the skinny jean...

Skinny fit jeans on Women; OK - if you have the body to carry them off
Skinny fit jeans on men; An abomination
