🏋️‍♀️Science of Diet and Exercise Journal👩‍🎓

and then we had all the excitement of a lost dog wandering into the lounge room through the open sliding door, a very friendly and excited border collie. put her in the car and drove her to the address on her tag, to a very relieved and surprised house sitter. who has some explaining to do as we first called the phone number on the tag and left a message. The house sitter had then received a call from the dogs owners not knowing the dog had run off and ended up 5 km up the road, and told the owned the dog was just outside so was surprised a little when we rocked up with the dog.
happy ending the dog was ok, is back home and did not get squished crossing our busy rural road.

Some dog sitter
I'm glad you found the dog, Tru! I hope she's more diligent from now on.

I don't share detailed nutritional details in here often. I have removed a little bit of detail from this report but otherwise it is my average intake for my nutrients over the past week.

A few notes - There are a few amino acids not in the green, I am not concerned about these, they are all non essential and my intake of aminos that they are derived from are very good.

Protein overall is 1% from target, but will hit target when I track food for tonight's meal

Vit C continues to be a problem, I will need to find a Vit C supplement in gel capsule form, fillers in tablets usually contain wheat and I am allergic to citrus in addition to the wheat allergy.

A couple of other vitamins also need a little work.

Sodium, will remain low unless I coat my food in salt which is not an appetising prospect, I do have salt tablets for hot days where I am sweating a lot but not needed this week.

Selenium is high and went into the red a couple of times this week, I must remember to eat no more than 3 brazil nuts in a day.

Spent some time late this afternoon in the gym with little miss, she was quite specific in deciding what she wanted recorded on video :) afterwards one of the gym mats became her boat with a dowel for a paddle, my competition bench became a pirate ship and the safety bars were cannons. To reload the cannons I had to bench press to little miss counting. I was apparently a bad pirate captain and she was a pretty mermaid. The imagination of 4 year olds is amazing :D

Trying to teach her to do pushups (they are required for martial arts) she was floppy and all over the place on the mat, swapped to "wall pushups" and we got to a point where she was able to keep her posture mostly straight, with practice she will eventually be able to do them on the ground.

I just finished off the day with a meal that is impossible to track and will leave me bloated and itchy due to allergies for the next week but hubby wanted a takeaway Chinese meal for his birthday. I was selective with what I chose to eat going with the Duck, steamed veg, rice and a tiny bit of sauce from the black bean dish rather than the sauce that came with the duck which was very thick and I suspect was thickened with stuff I am likely to react to. I am not reacting immediately which is a good sign, no breathing problems but the bloat from the carb hit will be felt for a while and my gut is making itself known with lots of gurgling which everybody in the house can hear.

Back to tracking properly tomorrow, this is just a rare glitch and not the end of the world.

I'm sure you know this one and have a good reason not to use it but a looong time ago when we started doing hand stands in school the teacher made half of us lie down on the floor and practice staying stiff as a board while the other half lifted us/our feet. It was a fun game.

Didn't matter what I did on the ground she couldn't get the hang of staying stiff, but with the wall pushup I was able to get her hold a piece of dowel touching her glutes and shoulders when in a good posture, and then I supported her body tilting it to the "wall" (actually a safety bar on the power cage set to the right height) Only needed to do it a few time so she knew how it felt, then she was able to do them herself with her hands placed on the "wall" She will still be required to do knee pushups in class but with practice home they should start to look like pushups rather than an undulating caterpillar. (I may make her exercise video public for a short time to share here before making it friends only again)

Wall pushups are the best starting point for learning to do a real pushup from the toes rather than starting from the knees. The height the hands are places gradually becomes lower before transferring to a bench or step then finally the ground.

I have pulled through last nights meal better than expected, my weight has stayed the same, I can feel a little bloat but not bad. still a bit itchy, I will take some antihistamine this morning and I should be ok.

She's a champion in the making for sure.

:rotflmao: Undulating caterpillar is good.

Thank you for this! However, I have a hard time feeling the effectiveness of wall push-ups. Do you think I'm doing it wrong? Does it still engage the core like a regular push-up?

This is the basic forces involved in doing push-ups from a strictly biomechanical perspective. Basically, the more elevated the hands the easier the push-up. The reasoning behind not doing knee push-ups is it is a slightly different movement pattern and when it comes to exercise specificity is a key aspect. If the end goal is not to progress to a regular push-up then it doesn't matter whether knee push-ups are used or not.

So yes your core should be engaged with all types of push-ups, if a version feels too easy it is time to move the hands a little lower.

Still feeling mentally not with it. Surprised myself with 100% on exercise physiology quiz, I was certain I would stuff up the formula questions, but they were not as bad as I was dreading. Mid semester exam is next week and I need to get my head clear for that one.

Why do you think you’re struggling mentally at the moment, Tru? I’m not at all surprised that you got 100% on your EP test.

I am not sure, I just feel like I am in a brain fog, it seems I am still taking the info in but very distracted. I have been back tracking my food, exercise has been good.

It is pouring rain outside and I need sleep, son 3 has his rescheduled elite sport testing tomorrow after his initial testing session was canceled a bit over a month ago. This time it is at Uni, so I will drive him down tomorrow arvo, who knows seeing the full repertoire of sport scientists at work might kick my brain into gear. At least I will fully understand his reports even if he doesn't make the next round of selections.
