I used to love eating jerky until I was instructed to keep my sodium levels down. How is the cleanup going in your district, Tru? It must be heart-breaking for your community. I think of how devastating it must be & I wish people would keep the government's lack of immediate response & the PM's weasel words in mind when they vote next. How good would it be for that safe LNP seat to no longer be? We're in a marginal seat & he'll start throwing money here when it's needed more elsewhere, trying to win votes. They're sickening.

people are still cleaning out houses some businesses have closed permanently, only a couple of businesses have opened again, all but one bank will be closed for months. We had a bad rental and homeless crisis before the flood, it is now even worse and will be for a long time to come. I see in NSW the military provided tents and I think the feds ? provided mobile homes for flood victims, not such support here. Most of the swans from the big park in town died from contaminants in the flood water (I don't understand people who play in flood water by choice) all parks and playgrounds are still closed. Recovery for the area will take years.

Little miss has speech therapy this morning and martial arts tonight. I feel tired today so if little miss has a nap this arvo I think I will too.

The lack of support for your region is obvious from here & it must be devastating. This country is becoming more divided with the haves & the have nots. Homelessness is rising & the government has to step up. I can’t see it happening, can you? It’s a bloody tragedy.
Hope you get a nap in this arvo, Tru. Take care of yourself :grouphug:

just completed quiz for behavioural health (the subject with the the tutor that drones on and on and on ....) got 90% I have the option of a second attempt but I don't think I will bother, happy with the mark I have for it.

Now I can relax, do some rowing and not worry about uni stuff till tutorials on Friday.

I have a few less than polite words to describe the old Drone teacher (quoting the Australian PM and joking about a students experiences with death) there was about 1/3 less students attending class this week.

In my other subject I was placed in my group, it is not a bad group, all members are slightly older than average uni students, 2 younger than I am and one older, one that I have been sitting next to in the horrible tutorial already has a masters in another field and the older woman seems ok. The man in the group seems to be well grounded. Our first group task was to teach the older lady how to use Google Drive to share our group documents.

Oh dear... Some people should cultivate more of a personal life and some hobbies, so they'll be motivated to retire at some point.

I think it's good that some people want to keep stretching their minds, at any age. Studying rather than retiring sounds like a really smart thing to do. Good for your group helping that to happen.

No real physical activity today, spent all day studying. The Primary Healthcare System for one subject and 2 textbook chapters about stress for the other. Break from study tomorrow then Wednesday re-read texts and re watch lectures before completing another assessment quiz and a practice quiz. Thursday will be spent digging through the Uni online access for the library looking for relevant studies, I need 2 for each subject, the two for think health are for the group work on collaboration in a healthcare setting, and the 2 for behavioural health are supposed to be recent studies related to health and the task is to analyze and review the studies (1500 words). Tutorials and group meetings on Friday.

I hope you'll be able to get some exercise in tomorrow. The assignments sound interesting as long as you can find some useful studies.

How's the current weather situation?

How's the current weather situation?

The plan is to take little miss to the park shortly, the playgrounds are still closed after the flooding but she can ride her bike around the lake and see what birds have survived, I get lots of exercise chasing her lol.

Weather has cooled a bit and still getting some rain but the creeks and river are back down to close to normal, I think about another month and it will cool enough for me to be able to get outside and do some badly needed garden work.

Time for a break, completed assessment quiz, located and read 3 studies/articles which may be of use for that subject, setup shared drive online for group and posted up the articles and citations, e-mailed all group members.

Going to do a lifting session before settling in to do the practice quiz for my other subject and start the search for 2 studies that meet the criteria to do a review report.

This is my assessment task for behavioural health.

Please select one (1) of the following four (4) topics:

Mindfulness-based strategies for stress management in a university setting
Healthy sleep-based strategies for stress management in a university setting
Healthy eating strategies for stress management in a university setting
Healthy physical activity-based strategies for stress management in a university setting
Search for and select at least two relevant and recent (published in the last six years) peer-reviewed full-text original research articles on the topic you have chosen
Please select articles that have student participants.
Please do not select reviews or meta-analyses for this task.
Evaluate and summarise the articles in a Word document (template provided under Resources heading)
Evaluations must demonstrate a good understanding (via an in-depth analysis) of the articles selected.
Summaries must provide the reader with a concise overview of the topic, methods, participants, and results of the articles selected.
Propose at least three practical recommendations (i.e. effective strategies/interventions, schedules of intervention, delivery methods, etc) based on the evidence available in the articles selected.
Reference your assignment using Vancouver-Jama referencing style -

I like that. Which topics did you pick? I think I'd take sleep and exercise because I'm kind of done with thinking about food and mindfulness so much 🙈

I am opting for the healthy physical activity. There is a lot of mindfulness studies popping up in my searches so far. Two potential studies that meet the criteria in one comparing a fitness class or self directed running / strength training with each compared to a control group, I think the study design is lacking in some areas but that gives me something to talk about in the analysis. the other study looks at short outdoor adventure activities and it effect on stress and includes both a bloodwork component and a survey component. I am still digging around, I would like to find one that looks at strength training or supervised gym training and its effect on stress in a student population but nothing yet.

One of the tutorial tips from the drone that will be marking the assignment is she wants to see studies that are different, she wants students to go beyond the first page of search results, yoga seems to be a popular topic for study as it fits into both physical activity and mindfulness / meditation so is off the table as an option.
