My son wants me to him my grandmothers hackbraten this weekend. It's basically a german version of shepherds pie. I can see my carb limit orbiting the moon.
Good grief:(

Make it with sweet potatoes or pumpkin, rather than white potato. It's funny because that's what we had yesterday & the day before (with sweet potato).

That is funny as normally German Hackbraten is just minced meat with veggies (baked off in the oven) - no carbs needed.

Thats true it is. I think she changed it up a bit because of my irish grandfather. Hers isnt traditional hackbraten. The braten is cooked normally then once its cooled its chopped up and mixed with a small amout of peas carrots and baby pearl onions. Then mixed with a rather sweet gravy then finally topped with mashed taters and baked off. Omg so good

Sweet gravy? What is this abomination?!
Its a milk gravy. Just about the time the gravy is done you add a pulverized cookie. Normally something like snickerdoodle would be used. If not that white sugar or brown sugar could be used. You dont add so much that its sickly sweet just enough to give it a mildy sweet componet. I was raised eating it but yes i c it is an odd ingredient in gravy lol.

:D Never mind: I ate sandwiches with nutella and gouda whenever I could get away with it. I understand that we all have our quirks/traditions/comfort foods.

Minced meet with vegetables is such a good dish! You can only use green beans and the meet for instance. Don't forget to spice it a little - my favorite one is Ras el hanout mixture. I try to have a fresh salad one evening and cooked vegetables the other one. Both with about 100gr of something (meat, ham, cheese...)
Bon apetit :)

I have to drive out to the ranch early in the morning so not sure what my foods going to be like tomorrow. Ill probably be there for awhile dealing with my neighbor out there.
He raises sheep and wants to lease a few of my fenced in pastures. So it may take a few minutes to hours depending on exactly whats on his mind.
I really wasnt looking into taking a long drive tomorrow.
Ahh well its a good excuse to get out of the house.

Today was a good day. I've noticed im moving around much more and not quite so light headed when im up walking around. I have a busy day tomorrow so of course i cant sleep. Looks like its going to be a netflix night:)

Sounds awesome dude! Being able to move more is great progress. And Netflix night when your body is actually physically tired is the best kind :)

Netflix nights are lovely - giving yourself permission to do nothinggg. How did the meeting with the sheep man go?

@Sunflower_

The wild or feral hogs are getting pretty bad. My neighbor is going to surround his ranch with hogwire. If you haven't heard of it its a heavy guage fence wire in a grid pattern and its about 4-5 feet tall. It blocks hogs from getting through but its short enough that deer can jump over.
He has about 180 acres so its going to take awhile to tear down the barbed wire and install the hog wire. So he's going to put his sheep in a large pasture i have that we arent using right now. That way he wont lose any sheepies while his fence is down. So everything went fine it was just a long drive there and back.

Odd question: are these imported European piggies originally or American wild pigs? Or are they just the same worldwide?
