Most of my life has been based on sugar. Finding new things to fill the void ;)

That's an interesting way to describe it... the sugar-based life/diet. It's an addictive substance, and as is true for most addictions, if you cut it out you no longer feel the need for it eventually. And also good that you are trying to not just "quit sugar" (or something else), but that you are replacing it with other things. That's the way to go, if you want sustainable change! I notice that my sense of taste is also changing as I consume less sugar, and other tastes become stronger. And it's just more interesting to explore more tastes instead of eating all this sweet.

Btw I like reading your journal. You always seem to make interesting observations.

I've noticed the same thing. It's like everything has more taste or at least stronger flavors.
Just wish the veggies weren't loaded with carbs.

Not in a place where i can do that yet. Still over 400 pounds and all the weight made my breathing kinda wonky. Its getting better slowly.

Ah, I understand, I am sure that I would feel the same about cardio at that point. But you have something to look forward to, because at some point you will be able to enjoy cardio. And that's a good thing, I love doing it! :)

But I would still not worry about the carbs in veggies... the calorie density of most vegetables is very low anyways, and they take a lot of place in your stomach, giving you a full feeling. And in the process you get a bunch of vitamins and nutrients.

I try to eat 400 grams of vegetables per day (about a pound).

I try to keep my carbs to 20-40 grams. I go over some days but thats what i shoot for.

When you get a chance, I'd definitely talk to your doctor about carbs - they get labelled as evil but fruit and veggies might not be the carbs they want you avoiding. There's a lot of water in most and that can rev up your metabolism as well as help you avoid the fake sugars. Also, a diet higher in fruit and veg can help prevent certain cancers and help your body work optimally.

I'm not saying "you need to change" because it's obviously working for you right now - but you've done SO well at making life-changes not just dieting and learning about the foods that really help your body so this might just be more information for you for the future.

You're doing an awesome job and great job on moving around more!

And... stupid question but you wouldn´t happen to have a pool, would you? Swimming or water gymnastics would be an awesome possibility to move/burn energy/build muscle without overloading your joints.

Hello stranger :)
I did talk to my doctor about the carbs. She pretty much mirrored what you just said. I was a carb junkie so i just decided to get away from them as much as possible. I try to keep to 20-40 but if i go over it's not a huge deal. I just make sure they are higher because of oatmeal, quinoa, fruit and veggies instead of candy and cokes and the like.
