Raising The Bar

I just had some really bad news, the joint founders and CEO's of the company I work for just stood down. That's bad for me because I was pretty friendly with them which made my job fairly secure, the new CEO is talking about restructuring

Deadlift day!!!

Deadlifts
3x145kg
3x145kg
2x145kg
6x130kg
9x110kg

I need to get something for my hands because I can handle this weight fine now but my hands are getting so sweaty that I'm losing my grip after a couple of reps. Does anyone from the UK know where to get 'invisible chalk' from? My gym wouldn't allow regular chalk

Split squats (each leg)
10x60
10x60
8x60

Good mornings
8x60kg
8x45 (really tired by this point)

I still need to find a suitable alternative for the step ups, does anyone have any ideas?

I will delete this after you see it; I AM GONNA hang you upside down and cut your---you know what off ......for what you did in the 4 words for sex thread................----------when you least expect it,,,,,,,,,WHAMMO! :)

Well done buddy, with your attention to detail you should be able to pull off a slow bulk

I'm a happy bunny today, with very little extra effort I upped by dumbell press to 40kg, the first time I've lifted a dumbell in the 40's so pretty proud of that.

My weight is up to 231 and I didn't get any pain in my left shoulder during the press movements which is a major relief, it might help explain the big upper body strength gains recently, maybe the pain I used to get was making me lift less than my potential?

I have an idea that the push up holds are helping me with the initial push on the dumbell press

DB Chest Press
5x80kg
5x80
5x80
8x72 (Increased completed reps despite weight increase :))

BB Row (Machine again)
5x91
5x91
5x91
8x84 (going to try increasing load for first set next week)

Elevated Push Up Iso Hold
3x45 seconds

Internal/External Rotations
Only 1 each this week - time ran out due to waiting for equipment

Thank you, again, for your post today, CCR. The meaning it represents can be beneficial to alot of persons on the forum.

Are you "angry" today? ;)

Rock on!..................my friend.........

Wish you the best,,,,,,,again.......thank you! :)

It was supposed to be Squat day today but my gym was busy and a bunch of 'gym buddies' were monopolizing the squat rack so I've switched workout order again and I did the upper day today and squats will be tomorrow

DB Chest Press
5x40kg
5x40
5x40
6x36 (not sure why I failed on 7th rep)

Rows
5x98kg
5x98
5x98
8x91

Elevated pushup holds
3x45 seconds

Assisted Chin ups Replacement for bent over cable pull down
8@10kg
8@15kg

Had to end there due to time constraints

Compromise: The 10 letter obscenity

(This is a post I made for the Chillout log earlier today; some readers of my log may not read that thread so I've thrown it up here too)

The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable
One persists in trying to adapt the world to himself
Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man
-George Bernard Shaw

I’ve been trying to think about what to say here today over the weekend and I decided I want to talk to you about a pet hate of mine; an awful dirty word, compromise; the dirtiest 10 letter word in the English Language
What is it and what does it do? Compromise is the acceptance that what we wish for is somehow out of our reach, compromise occurs when fear and doubt set in. Have you ever tried setting a personal best deadlift when you doubted you could do it? I wouldn’t advise it, compromise and doubt are bedfellows which will follow you around if you allow them.

Power comes from our ability to say no to fear. A loud and clear ‘no’, I will not back down, I will succeed

Compromise is never anything but an ignoble truce between the duty of a man and the terror of a coward.
-Reginald Kaufman

There are very few people born without the ability to compromise, for any of you who think you honestly push yourselves to the limit I challenge you to say the same after reading Flyinfree’s journal. There is that final mile or one last squat in the tank for all of us.
I know I’m guilty of this, I make excuses like sticking to my schedule and time restrictions but the truth is if you walk out the gym feeling fine then you probably didn’t push yourself hard enough, you’re robbing yourself of the chance to be better

Is Pepsi OK? What do you think?

If fitness isn’t such a big deal in your life then that’s fine, but then what is your passion, what really gets your juices flowing? Do you push that last rep in the areas of your life that you are passionate about? From what I’ve seen people who push themselves in one area of their life push themselves in all, it spreads quickly so try and make sure you push yourself in whatever you do. This attitude will breed success throughout all areas of your life and it all starts with a failure to compromise and the strength to take the road less traveled

Winners compare their achievements with their goals, while losers compare their achievements with those of other people
-Nido Qubein

It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.
-Edmund Hillary

The attitude I’ve found most disturbing on this forum is the quest for average. Why do people come on here looking to gain a bit of muscle or lose a bit of fat? The people who don’t want to get ‘too big; just cut’. Why aren’t people coming here and saying ‘I want to be the best that I can be!’? People are aiming for targets that are relatively easy to achieve, but what makes attainable so good? Mankind has always aimed for the stars, things that seem just out of our grasp. Because of this we have advanced further than any species ever has. But it seems the tide is changing and people are actually aiming for ‘OK’.
Will mankind ever venture outside of our solar system? Not if our children start dreaming of becoming accountants instead of astronauts we won’t. We need to reach for things that seem impossible or we’ll lose what makes us different. Remember that impossible is not always a fact. Push for the best and often you’ll end up with better results than you even thought possible.

The world needs anger. The world often continues to allow evil because it isn't angry enough
Bede Jarrett

Now your ally on this journey is anger. Anger gets a bad press but to deny anger is to deny our very nature. Anger is the bringer of change, the catalyst to revolution, it will provide you with the fuel you need to cut the failing parts from your life and introduce fresh promise.

Anger as soon as fed is dead -
'Tis starving makes it fat.
~Emily Dickinson

I’m not saying you that you should allow yourself to be controlled by anger but chance are you’ve spent most of your life confusing suppression with control. Use anger as your ally, use it to push you on to making the necessary change and then let it go.
I don’t want to contradict the teachings of Yoda but anger is not a bad emotion it is just misunderstood and poorly applied.

So to sum up, I’ll ask each of you to try something for me. Identify one thing you want to achieve, make a goal and focus on that and decide right now that you’re going to achieve it no matter how difficult or painful the journey might be. And also find something to get angry about every day, anger will help your spirit strong in your pursuit of perfection

Be the uncompromising man

I'm trying to clean up my diet, I bought a ton of Cod liver oil and natural peanut butter over the weekend. The one place I could see natural PB for sale only had it in 1kg tubs! Tastes ok though

We are talking Peanut Butter!............:) :) :) My favorite love to hate and hate to love---relationship! LOL!

When you bought this I assume you looked at the ingredients?

What did it say as far as ingredients.....not all natural PB is made well.

Lol, it just says 'Roasted Peanuts'

Oh...........its all good then! :) just checken......LOL

Fricken stuff is so calorie dense.........

Do you have "Smuckers" in your stores? It has peanuts and salt.........only...

I use this brand. I love the taste===> Im a Nut about peanut butter anyway......LOL.......

Chillen

Hey Chillen

I'm pretty cool today, got in a bit of an arguement with an idiot at work, he tried to have a go at me across the office and I reacted a bit aggressively and used the F word. Not a good idea with potential redundancies around the corner; but at least he shouldn't try and act the tough guy with me again

Oh yeah, squat day today, really looking forward to it. It's odd for a tall guy to love squating more than he like deadlifting but since I really started to nail my squat form I don't feel like I've had a proper workout without them

Squats
3x130kg - I thought the last rep wasn't going up, just about did it
3x120
3x120
6x110 - I might up this to 115 next time
10x100

Squats were good today but I thought I might try 125 for the 3x3 next week

Romanian Deadlift
3x10@ 100kg - I think I've got form corrected now, will go back to performing them with lunges in a set next week. I stopped so I could put all my focus on correct form

Calf Raises
10x100kg standing with BB
2x12 @ 65kg seated

Split Squats (Lower back was tight so did these instead of lunges)
2x10@60kg

Overall I was pleased with my squat progress but I have a tightness in my lower back which doesn't feel too good.
