For those that don't know, Lent is the time that Christians prepare for Easter. Catholics are asked to abstain from meat on Fridays, (fish is allowed) and they are also asked to make some sacrifice to mark the season. Many people will give up something, like chocolate or ice cream. A lot of people use it as a crutch to jump start their failed New Year's Resolutions.

My idea for this challenge is to make a pre lent pledge. It's not for the whole year, it's not religious in any way, it's strictly for the health and weight loss affects.

Lent this year starts on February 25 and goes till April 10th. That's 45 days. My idea is that for the 45 days prior to Lent, which would start January 11th.

So, who's in?

Great idea. Im in. I will update this post when i figure out what i want to give up/accomplish.

Hey, Matt, glad to have you on board.

Right now I'm thinking of running 45 miles in the 45 days. We still have some time to finalize it.
 
I'd love to be in on this, but I will go MIA somewhere around the 18th. If that's okay, then I'm all yours. :D

I need to think of what my vow will be . . .
 
Matt, I think you are right. Val has no staying power. That's why she's only been here two years. :D

Angela, the challenge is whatever you make it. Checking in or not. So? What's going on on the 18th? :bigear:
 
I'm in too Trops... just need to zero in on what I want to give up. Jan 11th huh? I've got a few to zero in on what may be effecting my new lifestyle negatively.

I'm trying to decide between a fitness goal, running 45 miles in the 45 days or 15000 jumps, or a food goal, giving up something sweet or alcohol or such. I haven't decided yet. There are just too many choices. :biggrinjester:

All good choices, but common... giving up alcohol.... ???? :eek: :eek2: :D
Not to sure on mine... I'll definately have to think on it.

At this time I think I would go along with JZ and Matt. Something along the food, fitness, personal thing.
I'll let you know.

This will help everyone to keep up with everyone else. Even outside of the forum.

Brilliant idea! I'd like to join in.

Most people I know give up chocolate or alcohol.

For myself, having a bad sweet tooth, I think I'll stay away from anything chocolate: cookies, chocolate, granola bars, ice cream. Unless I can think of a better goal- that's it for me.

I liked the idea of a fitness goal as well! But I'll have to think about it...
