Planet Fitness-Judgement free? I think not!

Welcome to planet fitness where we are proud to be the most hipocritical gym in the world.

There is a Bodybuilding/Powerlifting gym opening right down the street from me at the end of the month and they are going to stock D-bells up to 150lbs..WoOt WOot!!!!! Planet Fitness goes up to 80lbs......boooooooooo

I was pretty amazed that the place I go to (Fitness First) has just got some heavier DB's; they used to only go up to 46kg (101lbs) but they now have them up to 60 (132lbs).

I can't press them yet but they'll be cool for falmers walks and single arm deads

The problem I have is that my house is in a pretty suburban and well-off area so all the gyms are 'health clubs' aimed at soccer mums, charging about $200 a month and are full of social areas and kids. The sound a lot like Planet Fitness as the last time I viewed one the only barbell I could see was on the bench press. There's not a single proper lifting gym in sight :(

Holy crap, I just read all that; they have free pizza and tootsie roll nights?!?
I only know Tootsie Rolls because the obese Texas girl I used to work with had then shipped over to her in massive quantities.

I don't even live in the same country as this place and it's still got me pretty angry. If you aren't deadlifting or squating then you aren't doing **** for your development anyway and have no business being in a gym in the first place.

And you lift in silence? If you've never made any noise while lifting then you aren't trying hard enough, simple as that, I'm gonna see if they have a customer support email address on their website so I can abuse them

I couldn’t find a central contact centre on their website so had to write to one of the clubs;

“Could you please send me contact details for your head office, as I wish to complain about the hypocrisy of your 'no judgement' advertising and your 'Lunk alarm' aimed at judging those trying to train properly and also the idiocy of a fitness club giving out Tootsie rolls; it defies all logic and reason

Many thanks”

I’ll let you know if they reply and I’ll CC you all in on the letter I write them :D

I love being a pain in the ass sometimes

YUP, and my girlfriend grabbed a tootsie roll as we walked in for our training session and I gave her the look of death so she laughed and threw it in the garbage.

Planet Fitness doesn't sound like they want to promote good health or fitness. Tootsie Rolls? Give me a freaking break. Who the heck eats that crap anyway?

What a joke. I honestly wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it ...

I'll snap a few pics of the tootsie roll jar tomorrow morning when I go to do cardio.

I also saw another funny sign that I'll take a pic of.

Yup. That's the way Planet Fatness has always been. They cater to the non-weightlifting individual and to the women with children.

Let's see, is it not just women, but the stereotypical women who want to "lose weight" (not knowing or caring about muscle vs. fat) and "get toned" (i.e. does not want to get "too big") and do workouts that are exclusively low intensity (so-called "fat burning zone") cardio and hundreds of situps in a (futile) attempt to "spot reduce" abdominal fat?

If so, it is surprising that there is even a bar and free weights that one can do a deadlift with, even if it is nominally not allowed.

+1

It should be the job of these facilities to educate people on proper exercise techniques...not just taking their money and letting them loose on cardio machines (but you can't sweat on them. That's not allowed). Have you seen some of the personal trainers they have hired?? I've read on a few that some have no higher than a high school education.

It would do them good if they let out a grunt every now and then. Exercise is not supposed to be easy. Eating pizza is easy.

You've clearly never eaten enough pizza :D

But yeah.. high school education? But they are certified, right? You have to be that in order to train people by law, don't you?

I don't think you have to be in some states. I remember meeting a personal trainer once who was standing outside powering down cigarettes. LOL

She told me you can have an awesome body and smoke. I think she need to glance in the mirror once in a while before using that as her sales pitch.

This is where I start to get a little upset. I'm not sure of ANY state legislature that requires a certification to do personal training, because it would be so hard to regulate. A person can take an online exam in a matter of minutes and be a PT. Some business may require a certification through a certain organization (NSCA, ACSM, ISSA, ACE). But again, this does not mean that this person is qualified to be a trainer.

Eating pizza is easy.

People are afraid to even eat a ****ing candy and you think eating pizza is easy? You think it's easy to fail at something? It is easier to fail then to suceed, but no one goes around taking pride in failure.

Exercise is not supposed to be easy
Why?:D Exercise is fun.

Eating pizza is like breathing.
Eating any food in general is like breathing. The difference between eating healthy food and eating junk food is you get smug(just for some people) when eating healthy food and you get guilt(just for some people as well) when you eat junk food.

So when the Lunk Alarm goes off and startles someone, who drops the barbell on their chest, they'll just sue, take over the gym, get rid of that retarded ****, and maybe some real workouts can be done there again on a regular basis.
