Hey FF, recently i've been having a pain in my right shin from running. It seems to be a dull pain, i ignored it at first but it's gotten a bit worse and it only happens when im out running .

Any advice as to what this can be?
I haven't been running long enough to be having joint problems lol.

aw man, phate, shin pain is very common in runners and usually leads to unhappy things. back off for awhile, the more you push it the more likely you are to turn it into something that never goes away fully.

Damn, that sucks. Well i guess i'll take a couple days break from running then...wish it would stop being so windy outside so i can start swimming though

Are you asking to explain how the numbers come out or why you did not have a faster time? The numbers come out correctly. A straight 20 miles in 66 mins comes out to 18.181818 mph.

Hey Todd,

I will be cleared for outside bike riding in 6 weeks. Let's go hit that trail near your house and do at least 50, maybe 62 miles! May 10 or 17 should work for me.

Richard

check me out in yer neighborhood. Figgered this would get me over here some too.

Are you running hills alot?
tell me your shoe story?
Are you sore ONLY in the shin? both legs the same? Does is hurt when you touch them, or when you run, or both?

1. I'm running some kind of hill everytime i go out running. It's not all up hill, but there are plenty of hills up and down, rocky dirt surfaces, etc.

2. The shoes i am using are old worn out basketball shoes that are my workout or running shoes. They are about a 18-24months old and they still seem to work, since they haven't fallen apart.

3. Yea I am sore only in the shin on both legs, it only hurts sometimes when im running or when im climbing the stairs. The dull pain seems to come at random times. Last night when i went running/mountain climbing the pain didn't kick in until i was back on the way home.

I'll try taking today off and see if they get better by tomorrow

g8r - May 18th is the Disney 70.3, so the 17th won't work. BUT ANY OTHER DAY OF THE NEXT 10 YEARS WILL BE PERFECT!

Drex- um... I can be so embarassing to myself... thanks. AND faster  I almost died today.

Phate- Take 2 days off. Ice your shins a couple of times, 5 min on, 5 min off, 5 min on.

get new shoes!!!!! run on pavement only for a lil while, and try to stay flat until you get strong. The uphill 'launch' especially in dirt is very tuff on your shins- even if you have good trail shoes,. Only use your running shoes for running- ONLY. I know you have lil money- but shoes are critical. You may even try running barefoot a bit. Barefoot is better than bad shoes!

p.s. if you return to the same place you start- you run equal amount of up and down hill. hehehehehe after my mileage/speed thing- I had to ding ya on that one. ahhgahahaha

LOL, I wasn't insinuating that it was a slow pace. I wanted to clarify what you thought the issue was. :) With your level of fitness I thought 18 mph may be an off day for you. All your hard work is inspiring.

Todd, what is your bike training schedule a week or so in advance of the Disney tri? Do you have a planned 56miler during that time?

headed out for 3 hrs and 30 minutes of RUN @ RPE 3-5

I have a 20 mile course set.
weight out 188.4

See ya when I get back

weighed in at 180.7

20 miles - 3:07:46 - that like 9:20's or soemthing..

first 5 was in 47 min, perfect pace, then I felt heavy and slow for awhile, though I didn't really slow up. Stopped at mile 9 to pee and fill my camelback... this thing is soo cool. I am finding one gulp per 10 minutes is perfect.

here's a pic of my new baby- CAMELBACK CAMMO STYLE

around 15 or so, I had the great idea run thru my head- "let's put the screws to it big boy" and felt a lil twang in my right hamstring. It never did cramp but it had my attention for the remainder of my run.

That makes 52.4 miles run, in addition to a few other things within the last 7 days. that is building.

G8r- for week 2, saturday- or May 10th I have open water swim and bike (180 minutes)... SO- if you wanna, come to the house early, say 7 or so- we will hit the lake and I will swim, then we can ride. let's get the 56 done in 3 hours. Depending on the chick action of course--hahaha
If this gives you a goal to shoot for, cool. BUT- take it FF'in easy brother. and what size is that fancy wetsuit you have? maybe I could try it on. Disney will be legal, but I have no money ;)

Phate phate phate.... 8lbs is only one gallon of water. Remember I am a sloppy 185, sweatbomb!

Good job man! Great accomplishment. You are a better man than I on these runs (but don't let that go to your head!).

Like the ladies. :)

I'm surpised you didn't get more than a "twang" in your hammies from that much water loss but it sounds like you were staying on top of it the best you could. The camelback is the best invention since....peanut butter :D (I'm into PB this week can you tell?) I used one on the day it was over 100 degrees for the adventure race last summer. INVALUABLE. My drinking tube has a hole in it so I need to replace parts and I should do it soon. That would have been helpful on Friday.

How were the legs the next day?

not bad sugar not bad.

Today:

bike: 30 minutes RPE 3-5

Swim: open water 70 minutes (they figure that to be 140.6 swim time- I WISH) did the swim in a lake during or fellowship social-- talk fo the class, nothing new.

Bike: 30 muntes hard RPE 7-9 (I held 20 mph for a full 30 minutes, it was very hard for me, but I did it) total ride time on thsi was 45 minutes.
