Weight-Loss One Hundred Push-ups Challenge (Official Thread)

Weight-Loss
Ok even though I've only done one day of the 100 push-up challenge (I'm a little behind), I can feel it in my shoulders and under my arms. Plus my abs - due to trying to hold the flab in so it wouldn't touch the ground first. ;)

Now your starting to sound like me.
I complained in class last night that I just couldn't do the tricep dips off the mat well enough due to the fact that my butt is so close to the floor! :smilielol5:

Well I didn't get to the push-ups again. I figured if I made the challenge, I would actually do it. I had gotten home late due to school. Then, I got supper around - watched my dh beat my scores on the wii fit - and then worked out with it too. But then got a phone call and it lasted awhile. So, here I am. I need to go get my shower so that I can go to bed, so that I can wake up and go to school again tomorrow. :(

But, I'm going to do a double dose tomorrow - think that will count? Or if I find it is too much, I will do the 3rd day on Sun.

How is everyone else doing?

I started with 12 and now I'm up to 22! I do the "girl" style so no one get too excited! I didn't do it yesterday...too much going on, so I just put my highest which was the day before challenge day, on the 12th. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hey that's great! You know there is nothing wrong with girl-style. I actually tried to do the normal ones the other day w/o doing any other exercise beforehand and I couldn't. So, I did the girl-style. It's ok - as long as you are doing them, you are strengthening your arms. :)

I used to be in martial arts and when I first started it was always "girl-style", but then as time went on, I was able to do more and more the normal way and finally could do 30 at a time like that.

However, I haven't done martial arts in about 2 yrs now and the push-ups went to the way side for me, so I'm starting all over. It's true if you don't use it - you lose it!

Wow, Becky. I think you got a little overzealous with the colors, I got dizzy :biggrinjester: lol...just joking, I love it!

I got in 45 total push-ups with the rests in between for the max this week. I did "girl" style too!

Have only done my original 10 (normal style) so far.
But I can pretty much promise you all that I will have done a ton of them by the time my class is over with tonight!
The reason for only having done 10 is my shoulder was hurting again. And I didn't want to throw it all out of whack again.

So how's everyone doing? I seem to think about my push-ups early in the day/afternoon and then I forget to do them until after I'm in the shower. :smash:

I was thinking we need a little bit more to this challenge. How about everyone do 10 jumping-jacks in between each set of push-ups? No? LOL

Ok, well then do 10 jumping jacks on your off days - before or after your regular exercise.

If you can manage them in-between the push-ups, do them then too!

Have fun!

Ok, you're pushing it! lol..no I'm just joking. I think it's a good idea, good little warm-up. I noticed that I feel more flexible and comfortable doing the push-ups when I'm warmed up.

I did 31 girl push-ups (without stopping) today!

I've been trying to add at least one extra one everyday. I don't see how I'll do 32 tomorrow b/c at 31 I thought my arms were going to fall off! If I can't then I want to at least keep up with my maximum amount. I did attempt a real one today and it just wasn't happening. I'll try again tomorrow though. Oh, and I def. love the idea of adding in the jumping jacks :)

Did anyone watch the Biggest Loser tonight on NBC? I love love that show. I did my workout while watching it! Pretty motivational!

Sounds good! :) I wish I'd seen this sooner; I just got back from the fitness center...3 miles on the treadmill! Hehe...

Exactly! I can do more after I've been warmed up. How's it going for ya?

Are you doing them everyday? You can take a break in between days. And you really should to give the muscles a little break.

I'm doing the knee style ones as well, because I can do the full form. If I do normal style, I don't go all the way down like I should.

I'm also having some shoulder issues right now (have been having them for awhile - so guess it's time to get it checked out.) So, the knee style are working for me for now.

If your goal is to do the normal style - just do one or two per day on the days you're doing push-ups and in not time you will have 10 normal ones under your belt!

I just got done with my first group of push-ups for this week. On the last set, I pushed myself to get in 15 (the max said at least 11.)

I feel pretty good about that. But, I've had a lot of tension in my right shoulder lately and it's not feeling too good when I do push-ups. I thought the tension was all stress, but now it's continuing to be a physical problem for me.

Glad you joined Jaicelle. Even if you can't get to 100 by the end, at least it's more than 0, right?!

Hey SweatPea :) I've been doing them everyday (the girl ones) because if I don't then I'm afraid I'll get into the habit of not doing them at all! I think my muscles are thanking me b/c they've been on break for a couple years now are are very happy to be a participating role in my body again!! I don't really lift heavy weights (heaviest are just 8 pound hand weights) and so this really is my only arm exercises for the time being. If they start getting sore, then I might skip a day, but for now I think it might be okay. Also, I think I'm going to just stick with the girl push-ups because I can't get my form correct either. Once I get down I can't get back up without sagging my spine first. Eventually I'll have more strength to do them, but for now I think the girl-pushups are more effective for me because I can actually do them :D
I did 35 last night (without resting) and today I'd like to do 36...we'll see how that goes!

Wow, great job! I haven't tried going continuously yet, but I'm still happy I've made it this far in the challenge. Does anyone else sometimes have the problem of feeling like they are not going down far enough? Or that their form is wrong? What do you do to make sure you are doing them correctly?

Hey Jaicelle, welcome to the challenge. A. I love the name, thats really pretty. B. Keep trying to do the planks, they are great for strengthening the core.

I would suggest holding your abs in and making sure your spine is straight (aligned.) I stick with the knee-style so that I can go all the way to the floor and back up. I used to be able to do the regular style with good form, but I don't think I was ever able to go most of the way to the floor with the regular style.
