Omega's new journey - time to do it again...

Thanks for visiting and cheering me on Maria, Cate and Rob...

Good for you, I am sure more new lows are in your future.

Having got to the weight I was when I started this diary - I have picked my next mini-target weight...

The weigh every day club tells me that my 2017 weight loss project fell apart and the lowest weight that I got down to was 14st 7.25.

That will be my next mini target...

My weight this morning was 15st 3 - a new low.

That is exactly two and a half stone down from my start weight in March 2020.

I have just realised that I am only one pound heavier than when I had that brilliant dance with Moe Flex in April 2017... Its lovely to be able to backtrack and compare your weight with such times... I saw him in February this year and felt too embarrassed to want to dance with him as I felt that I would be unable to do myself justice on a fast dance...

Hi Omega,
Just popping by for a visit after hanging out with you in our 21 day club :)
Way to go on all your progress and weight loss!!

Thanks for visiting and cheering me on Rob, Maria, Liza and Bubbles.

I haven't popped in here since Monday - so it is time for a catch-up.

My food and exercise has all been fully on track all week so that is great! :hurray:

My weight has been coming down all week too so I'm very pleased about that too.
My weight this morning was 15st 0.25

:auto: I've been out driving most days - and things are generally going well - although there are definitely things that I need to improve a lot on. I find parking very difficult. I can manage ok if I can just drive into a big gap - and can now (with thought) manage to reverse into a big gap... I can't deal with little gaps though... I still find it all very stressful.

It looks like I will probably be doing the driving for quite a long time... Rod's eye tests have got locked into a stand-off... He had some tests done and we got a copy of all the results.

A friend of ours who is an eye surgeon and highly qualified consultant (now working in another region) looked at the results and said that the damage is minor and he should not have been stopped from driving.
The local registrar has interpreted the same results very differently - and says that he must continue not driving. In his letter (which arrived today) he said that he discussed the matter with the consultant he works for and she agrees with him. We happen to know that this must be a lie as his consultant has been on holiday until next week.
We are going to pay for a private appointment with another local consultant to see if anything can be done about it.
The annoying thing is that our friend is a lot senior and more experienced than the registrar who has given this opinion.

The really annoying thing about all this is that my husband loves driving and feels frustrated and deprived by not being allowed to drive - and I am stressed and panicked by having to drive. If there was a valid reason for it - we would have to just suck it up and get on with it. The fact that our friend has confirmed that he would be fine makes it very annoying. It feels like we are going through all this for nothing...

There has however been some good news this week...

Zumba is starting up on Monday and we have joined the gym and have booked sessions on Monday and Friday.
I have practiced driving to near the gym and am looking forward to seeing some friends.

Also a friend of ours is started some very small scale salsa.
He is going to host a dance class for 5 couples each dancing together. It will be fully socially distanced but a chance to meet up with a few friends and do a single class. It will last a little over an hour and I will just dance with my husband - but we will see a few friends there.

Great news about your weight-loss & Zumba & salsa classes, Margaret. I hope Rod can get his licence back. Keep fighting the good fight. I’m sure your driving has improved. I know lots of people who never reverse park & usually park in supermarket car parks.
Edited: A little birdie (my phone) just reminded me that it's your birthday!

Happy birthday!
How strange that a consultant would lie about something like that - fingers crossed you can get that reversed. And I hope the zumba classes will be organized in a safe way as well so you can enjoy them without worrying.

Time for another update - another week has flown by.

The week has gone well with me losing a little more weight. I'm at 14st 12 today. I was at 14st 11.75 yesterday (but that is just the day to day fluctuations we see)... My food has been good and my exercise levels too.

I did real live zumba classes on Monday and Friday now that the gym has opened up.
I also did the live salsa class on Tuesday.
Both were really well-organised and safe...
I posted about them elsewhere... I'll copy in...

In England, gyms have been closed since March - but have just reopened...

On Monday I did a 1 hour zumba class on day 1 of my gym re-opening.
People may be apprehensive about going so they may be interested in my experience.

The gym / zumba was particularly well organised. At reception everyone was asked to use sanitizer. The toilets were open - so there were no problems with that... The route was marked on the floor (although we knew the route) and waiting places were marked in the corridor outside the room so you could wait to go in with appropriate distancing. On the floor there were crosses taped on the floor and there was about 2.5 to 3 metres between each cross. It was in a big sports hall so extremely well ventilated for the amount of people that they were limiting the class size to (24 in this case) using a section of the hall - the rest of the hall was unused... Everyone had to leave the hall through a fire exit - so there was no passing anyone coming into the building. Everything was so well organised and well thought through that we were comfortable to take off the masks that we had put on to go into the building.

We were both so pleased that we had gone. It was lovely seeing some of our friends.

In England, dance classes have been closed since March and have just reopened.

On Tuesday I did a salsa class... The format was very different from a normal salsa class / event. Normally you would between two or three classes followed by a couple of hours of social dancing where you would dance with a number of friends...

The dance community is currently forming bubbles...
I am lucky as my husband dances so he was my automatic choice of dance partner.
Single dancers have been forming dance partner bubbles and allocating a single person to dance with.
Class bubbles have been forming - consisting of five pairs of dancers. For a block of four weeks - the same five pairs will dance in the same class.

The hall had been marked off into 5 mini dance floors and each couple had to dance on their own floor spaces...
There was a path down the middle which you had to use to go to the toilets.
Sanitizer was provided.
You did not need to wear masks - and no-one did.
We had masks with us - but were comfortable that we could be distanced at all times.
There was a single class followed by 15 minutes of music to dance to.
At the end we had to leave by another door.

Cleaning took place between different classes - and we saw friends leave from an earlier class - and queueing to go into the following class.

Again - it was well organised - and virus appropriate.

It was enjoyable - but much shorter than a normal salsa night - and certainly not the same as social dancing with lots of different friends.

It is probably as near to normal as we can legally get currently...

Interestingly - a week ago I was looking into sports masks as I was sure that I would need them for both zumba and salsa.
My experiences this week make me think that they are not necessary for me currently.
I will continue to take normal masks with me to both salsa and zumba in case rules relax before I am ready...

I am risk averse generally - and would definitely wear a mask if going within two metres of anyone.
I cross into the road if anyone walks near me and avoid public transport and shops.
It is good that some things are being organised where social distancing is being enforced so that we can feel safe.

It has certainly been nice seeing some friends this week through the salsa and zumba...

I am hitting 18,000 to 19,000 steps every day (although I got up to 25,000 steps yesterday.

I'm pushing ahead with my driving - driving almost every day. I'm still having lessons on a Wednesday with a driving school - and my husband watches my driving with "lessons" on our other drives...

You are always so motivated, I love it! Hoping to draw from your well and share that motivation - we are similar weights! Well done on the driving, sounds a new challenge and one you are meeting head on! Hana x

Lovely to see you Hana xxx:grouphug:

I hope that we can keep each other motivated... :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: My motivation is always intense but always precariously balanced... If I can just keep my motivation there - we can all get to goal... I know that I have done it before - so can do it again... But I am a stress eater - and stress can kill my motivation... I am just hoping that I can keep the motivation high (and cope well with stress).

I haven't got a choice with the driving... The only way that we can get anywhere is by me driving if we cannot walk. We do not trust buses or taxis... For instance - I know that I will have to take my husband to a hospital tomorrow because it is not within walking distance... In the evening I want to go to zumba to see friends - and the gym is not within walking distance - so I will drive there too... Some days we have time available and go for a longer drive. I need lots of practice...

Hi, Margaret. You must be gaining confidence with your driving now. Good for you pushing through the nerves :)

Thanks Cate and Maria

At least with the driving I have got to the stage where I can sleep at night while aware that I will be driving the next day... It isn't many weeks since that was not the case. I guess that means that I am getting a bit more used to the idea. I still find it all an enormous challenge though.

I really would have never started driving if it were not for the obscure situation of my husband not being medically allowed to drive. The virus makes it even more necessary... I have thanked my lucky stars that I passed my driving test when I was in my early twenties (even though I forgot how to drive afterwards)... That single fact makes the biggest difference to what we can do.

We are getting to appointments and taking part in the fledgling social life that is opening up. We are also sometimes getting to longer outings. On Friday - we drove about 60 miles north from Newcastle heading through Wooler as far as a pretty little bridge we know not too many miles south of the Scottish border...

It is pleasant weather today - so we would have probably gone on a longer drive today if it were not for this afternoon's hospital appointment.
