Omega's new journey - time to do it again...

Hi, Margaret. I'm sorry that you are poorly as well. Can you write your Mum a short letter explaining why neither of you can visit? It is good that she is in a place that is caring for her well. She would know that you would be there if you could :grouphug: Cate

What Cate said. O, and get well soon :) Forgot about that before...

Thanks for your suggestions.

We spoke to the staff about the situation and we asked them to be sure she understands... We left her with a mobile phone and charger and she has spoken to us... Also asked how we are.... She is inclined to be very clingy though... She can very easily feel abandoned and deprived...

We have given location information, phone number and the fact that we currently cannot visit to some of my cousins and also some of her friends... We are hoping that she gets some other visitors.

Aww bless you and your family Omega.

I will be thinking of you guys. Try not to worry about your weight loss right now, try to at maintain your weight and focus on looking after yourself and your family.

Don't feel bad if you go backwards. We are here if you need help, we all have rough patches.

Your such an inspiration juggling all of alongside your weight loss. I'd have given up by now, locked my door and binged on so much junk (don't do this though) :0

Thanks...
I've got such a busy weekend coming so I don't think I'll be able to post before Monday.

My mother seems to be doing well. I'll get in to see her this morning...
Luckily quite a few of her friends and some of my cousins have visited her so it seems she is not as neglected as I feared.
They are continuing to visit over the weekend and she is apparently improving so we are able to honour previous commitments to attend an event.
I've spent all week thinking that we would need to cancel...

I'll post if I can!

All the best Margaret. Enjoy your weekend. Catch up with you in a couple of weeks.

LOL I finally got to see it - thanks Cate...

Well - I'm back and I've re-read the start of this diary and it is all so valid it isn't really worth me starting a new one...

Weight today 16st 0.25 which is 224.25 pounds.

My mother recovered and came home - and she still lives with us. Naturally - her mobility is not great as she is aged nearly 98 now.

The last three years have seen me have a fair bit of stress - and predictably I gained weight.
Various things happened - after my mother eventually recovered and came home...
My husband had various worrying health issues and also his mother died so we had to deal with that and sorting things out 300 miles from where we live... This was not easy as we had to sort out cover for my mother while we were ever away dealing with that - also my husband was having two hospital appointments a week at that time and as landlords we still had our property rental business to run...

My husband was in hospital at the end of February this year and as he got out we determined to both do what we could to address our respective weight gains. Unfortunately the covid lockdown immediately removed salsa which at that time was not only our main form of exercise but also our main contact with our circle of friends.

We are really proud of our achievements so far (as I don't think that lockdown has been easy for anyone)...

For the records - at the start of March my weight was 17st 10 so I have lost 23.75 pounds.

I will not say my husband's weight (it is higher than mine) - but I am very proud to say that he has now lost 5st which is 70 pounds.

Unfortunately when we decided to be good at the start of March - we found that the treadmill had not survived unscathed being moved from one room to another and needs to be fixed or replaced... The spare treadmill (which is in storage) has too low a maximum weight for Rod - so we have not bothered with it... We have been trying to get a treadmill repair company to see if the treadmill can be fixed since March - but the lockdown seems to have affected things as no-one is replying...

Our exercise has really been back to walking locally where we live. We go out early in the morning as we are aware that my mother would be very vulnerable to the virus. We have been trying to be good with our food - but I'm human and apt to lapse into treats that I would be better off without...

Welcome back Margaret :grouphug: We´re all human here (well, most of us) and life throws some weird shit at us sometimes. Great job getting back on track and so good to hear your mom recovered enough to come home.

Hi, Margaret. It's nice to hear from you. :)
What a tough time you have had. We are all mere mortals & you have had so much to deal with. You must miss Salsa. I remember how much you loved it. I really love walking, especially now we have a little dog. Catch up with you again soon xo

Thanks for the welcome back Maria and Cate. :grouphug:

I'm so pleased that I thought of popping back here

I'll have a look around... I might end up reviving one or two dormant threads if I think that they might help me... :biggrinjester:

I'm glad you thought to come back too. Maybe your enthusiasm will spur others on. I don't respond well to challenges, so please excuse me if I don't participate. I do read every post every day though.
I look forward to seeing that first milestone achieved, Margaret :)

Thanks everyone for cheering me on.

I last posted here on Tuesday - so can report that things have gone fairly well here.

Before I go into details there is an extra issue that I will share here...

In February when my husband was in hospital he was told not to drive.
We were told that they would review this situation when he had a special eye test at least 3 months later...
The bottom line is that we don't really know whether he will be allowed to drive again...

This was quite a shock as I hadn't driven in 34 years and had always said that I had absolutely no intention of ever driving again.

I booked some lessons to see whether I might re-learn (I'm 60 so it is quite daunting) - but lockdown happened so the driving school cancelled the lessons...

When the car insurance needed to be renewed in May we put me onto the insurance policy.

Its an unusual set of circumstances as normally a learner needs a licensed driver with them - but I actually still have a full clean license...

We really have no intention of using public transport if we can help it because of the virus - so decided to have a few "lessons" from my husband with me driving all the time. The first lesson consisted of me driving about 10 yards back and forward along an empty stretch of sideroad where it was parked. On the second, I went down an empty back-lane.

Since then I have been out about half a dozen times - and until less than a fortnight ago had stayed within a couple of miles of our house.

On Saturday morning (at 7am when the roads were quiet) we did the furthest that we had been thus far and made it to one of the hospitals where my husband has appointments (4.6 miles away) and back. That was my previous lesson.

Tuesday:
I ate healthily all day, did my morning walks and 4 tracks of Zumba.
Apart from coming back to the forum there is nothing special to report...

Wednesday:
I ate healthily overall - but I did include some low calorie high protein ice cream - so maybe not perfectly...
I did my morning walks and Zumba
About 11am we went out for a drive and went to the hospital again using the same route when traffic was busier.

Thursday:
So far so good. The food has been ok so far and I did my walks and Zumba.
About 11am we went out for another drive. We went to the vicinity of the hospital again (as it is to the north of the city) and headed from there to one of our rental properties which is 20 miles from our home and back. It has to be said that I made a couple of mistakes - but Rod says that I did well and it is encouraging when I find that I am able to get to places that we know we will need to get to. It is such a major achievement for us that this is definitely the highlight of the day.

I was terrified to drive again after I hadn´t done so in only a year or two so mad respect for restarting after so long! Glad to see you´re taking it slowly though: a car is a dangerous weapon. I hope your husband can get the all-clear to drive again soon and I hope you´ll still work up to driving regularly/safely to be ready for emergencies. Mobility is a crucial part of independence.

Good for you, Margaret. I couldn't imagine my life without being able to drive. That takes so much courage. Keep it up, even if Rod is able to drive again.

Thanks for visiting and cheering me on. I have had so many panic attacks over the need to drive this year... The virus effectively took away the option of public transport.

Thursday finished off well and I got a reward on the scales this morning. 15st 12 on the scales. I've been hovering over or on the 16st mark for a couple of weeks - but a day of basically salads (with protein of course) and fruit meant that I got the golden combination of low calories and toilet activity....

Morning walks and Zumba all went to plan.
I had another driving lesson today :auto: and went along a busy and fairly fast road near where I live which I hadn't touched before. We went for about 12 miles out into the countryside and drove through villages on the way back to town. After that we drove round a bit locally.

Cottage cheese and yoghurt for lunch with fruit - but Rod suggested a 96 calorie little bar of chocolate each - so we both ended up being a little bit sinful too

Your day sounds lovely. I don't have the view of any food being sinful as long as it fits in with getting the right nutrition overall. Well done on getting in more driving.
