No More Free beer, just a journal

I thought it was about time I started a new journal and decided to go for a title that might get people's attention (although, possibly not on a fitness forum!!) Well, apart from Evo perhaps ;)

So, how have I been getting on since the last time I posted on here? Well, I have been strictly following the on/off weights and nutrition programme. This, in a nutshell, means that some weeks I train and I watch what I eat, other weeks I don't...

This has led to progress marginally to the bad side of maintenance!! The last few weeks I have been 'at it' again and have been attempting some ridiculous diet, only allowing myself 2 solid meals each day (loads of shakes are involved .... you get the idea!). My defecit is about 600 - 700cal daily and seems to be quite effective. Extreme I grant you (But is only a temporary endeavour for the beach and proper nutrition will resume post vacances :D )

As I sit here before you now, I weigh in at 147lbs @ 12.3%bf. The weight is not a figure which has ever really concerned me but, I hope to hit single figures bf% before I hit the beach this year :)

So, there you have it. Welcome back me - yay! I probably won't be posting here daily (because I'm quite lazy) but, at least once a week is very possible.

At some point over the next few days, I will get round to posting up my current workout in detail. As an overview, I am lifting weights 3 times a week. My routine is split thus: Day 1 = Back & Biceps. Day 2 = Legs & Shoulders. Day 3 = Chest & Tris. This has broadly been my routine for over a year and seems to serve me well. I change up excercises now and then to keep things as fresh as I can.

Non weight days will usually see a cardio session of some sort. I've recently been doing HIIT on the treadmill using a combination of hills and speed. The hills are by far the most gruelling as, after 60 seconds on maximum incline, the reduction of effort to a comfortable level isn't instant as the treadmill gradually declines over about 40 seconds. Its a killer!!

This is a picture taken yesterday to give you an idea of where I'm at and also to keep me accountable and determined to make progress. They say the camera never lies so, here goes:-

Hmmm, the hand holding the camera looks disproportinately big for some reason! I should probably get that looked at...

lol - yeah, I'm not too sure how that happened.

Thanks for the encouraging words too :)

Pulled a muscle in my back over the weekend so, skipping weights today - don't want to aggravate anything. Bit annoyed but, better safe than sorry.

I feel really screwed over. This is not what I thought this thread would be about.

Oh. You look pretty lean. I think badasseryness would follow if you put on another 20-30 pounds before cutting.

I think people Googling "Free beer" will get led here, resulting to record high site registration.

Oh, and I think you should put on more weight! Why not?

Heh, so my cunning ploy to spark some interest in my journal may have worked a little too well, huh? ;)

I agree with the comments about bulking up a bit and I plan to do exactly that after I've been on holiday. A nice leisurely winter bulk, aiming to put on 20lbs. I like the word 'badasseryness' too - sounds like the perfect goal to aim for!

Brief breakdown of today's workout (all either 3 or 4 sets):-

Deadlifts
One armed rows
Preacher curls
Lat pulldowns
dumbell curls
seated rows
weighted crunches

followed by 20mins steady state running.

Not been gaining much in strength lately but, thats due to the deficit in calories (not enough fuel to get stronger) so, the bulk will also do me good psychologically :)

Should have known... anyone that would put "beer" and not ALE is a farce...... :p

Actually, the word 'beer' can be used to describe either lager or ale. Personally, I favour the latter by quite some margin :D

However, as people keep on pointing out, thats not what this thread is about ;)

Back & biceps are really aching today - that really nice kind of ache that reminds you that you might actually be doing yourself some good...

hmmm, I can't see any facility to change the title.

Perhaps it should have been 'free of beer' as, ironically, I'm off the stuff at the moment. Mind you, if I'd called it that, nobody would have cared ;)

Yesterday's foray into the wonderful world of weighted resistance included the following:-

Squats (well, leg presses as I've nobody to spot me) - 3 hard sets
Shoulder Press - 4 sets
Good Mornings - 3 sets (back still sore from deadlifts)
Bent over dumbell flyes - 4 sets
Calf raises - 3 sets
Side raises - 4 sets
shrugs - 3 sets

15 mins stationary bike. Was aiming for 20mins but, I was absolutely spent and in desperate need of a shower!

Sorry, but I just HAD to post in here - I could quite possibly end up being the new beer lover around here - Im quite partial to beer, and even now am drinking some, as part of my "last night of freedom" before tomorrow!

Good luck with your workout... wish me luck too!

Shaun

Good luck man! By the way, a life of fitness etc. does not necessarily mean you can never drink beer again - all things in moderation etc. :)

Last nights workout was:-

Bench press - 4 sets (had some left elbow pain too)
tricep dips - 3 sets
tricep pulldowns - 3 sets
Incline bench press - 4 sets
tricep pullovers - 3 sets
Bench flyes - 3 sets
leg raises
side bends - 2 sets

20 mins cross trainer. mixed intensity but, reasonably steady state.

Very few of my clothes fit me properly at the moment and, I'll be moving tot he next notch on my belt soon. Will definitely need to do some clothes shopping soon.

Thanks Chris! He he thats like the golden ticket... ! Well I'm slowly getting into this fitness thing, bit by bit.. so nice workout.. interesting to see everyone posting their workouts - it does seem to help keep you motivated! :beerchug:
