Weight-Loss New WLF Team Challenge

Weight-Loss
Updated my score sheet. I'm relieved to be back down to my lowest weight so far. My weight has fluctuated quite a lot in the past three days (I weighed in at 182.6 on Thursday and 184.3 today). 5/30 was our anniversary and we just got around to celebrating last night--so that explains Saturday's dinner.

Food log (6/1):
Breakfast
Special K (Red Berries) cereal
1% milk
Activia (strawberry) light yogurt.

Lunch
Salad: Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, veggie cheese, avocado, fat-free ranch dressing, grilled chicken.

Dinner
Fried green tomatoes
Salad: Lettuce, cherry tomatoes, red onions, carrots, ranch dressing
Champagne
Sweet dinner roll
Ribeye steak with garlic sauce
Spinach
Potatoes
Vanilla ice cream with bourbon ball

Besides the champagne, the only thing I drank was water.

Well done :hurray:

You've both been working hard.

Am I the only person who finds the percent weight loss thing (with a varying start weight) hard to understand?
LOL My weight loss is so pathetic that I have just been leaving it blank every week.

We have a calculator for determining the percent and key in the start weight and new weight.
The new weight is easy - that is the new weighing for that day.
In previous challenges I have used the same start date every time - the weight from the start of the challenge.

I am inclined to think that it would be easier if we focused each week on the weight loss during the whole of the challenge so far and the variation in that...

That would mean that there was always the same start weight used in the calculation - the weight on day 1 of the challenge... It saves messing about with different numbers every week.

It is easy to see the week to week variation as the difference between the new figure and the calculated figure the previous week.

It would also mean that if someone had a gain (possibly due to TOM) it would not all be doom and gloom as they could easily see that there may be a minor hiccup but they had still lost a lot compared to the start of the challenge.

I notice that if we look at it that way the percents look like

Justina 8.55%
Belinda 4.56%
Transparent 0% (although I havent got her new weight in these figures)
Omega 2.34%

What do you think of that idea?

If you do not like it - I think I need a lesson on the other way of doing it...

Hi guys, will update my score sheet later today. Let's say that I did abysmal and call it that. The weather changed, and as always, cold/flu, anitbiotics, the d-word and told to rest, so you guys can figure out how my exercise was affected. I only got points for Sat, Sun and Monday, Tuesday onwards only water points.... arggh... this is so annoying.:banghead:

I asked my GP if there was something that they could give me to stop this foolishness, its like everytime the weather changes suddenly I get sick, whether it is from hot to cold or cold to hot, if its not gradual I get sick, more from the hot to cold/rainy though, and you know his answer... ZIP, NADA, NOTHING, the only thing that I can do is amp up my vitamins and hope for the best... sucks doesn't it. And to think that I'm planning to go to England in August. Any guys from Jolly Ole England can tell me how the weather is there in the beginning of August, all I was told was to have a trench, what is the temperature like?

Will update the full day later on, just only had a sausage and egg, no salt sandwich, no condiments on a homemade bun with OJ, that will have to be for Brunch since I slept through breakfast and I have to eat to take the antibiotics:svengo:. Feeling better so hopefully I will be able to squeeze in some exercise, don't know if it'll be the whole hour as I don't want a set back, but I'll try something, its about giving my body enough rest and such... at least that's what the doc's say.. and I was doing so well on Jillian & Chalean, ah well, guess I'll have to start over.:seeya:

Well done for getting the points that you got.
I hope that you are fully better soon - it is good to hear that you are starting to feel a bit better.

LOL Don't get me started on English weather...
You are in the Caribbean... English weather may well be your worst nightmare...
I'm jealous of anyone in the Caribbean...

On the good side - we are not a place of extremes...
No need to worry about tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes, major snow-drifts or anything like that...

On the bad side - it is unpredictable...

We do not get anywhere like enough sunny dry days...

In fact there is not a week of the year where you can be pretty sure that it will be sunny all week and not raining...

July and August are supposed to be our better months so you stand a better chance of decent weather at the start of August than you do most times...

As far as temperature goes - it should not be too cold but you can never tell...
It partly depends on where in England you are going... It is certainly warmer in the south compared to the north... My husband complains regularly about how cold it is in the north of England (we moved north last year)...

In my opinion you definitely want a few cardigans and a waterproof kagoule in among the clothes that you pack.

Omega, a while back I did notice that the percentage lost going off the starting weight is not the same as the weekly percentages combined. According to the percentages logged on my score sheet, I've lost 4.64%, whereas going from my starting weight I've lost 4.56%. They're two different numbers. San said the percentage lost when updating the weekly score sheets is supposed to be based off the lowest weigh-in to date, not the start weight... Either way, one method needs to be chosen because they don't yield the same results.

I'd prefer it to consistently use the start weight.

That would make it easier - and bring in less opportunities for people to make mistakes.
That is the way that it has been done in most challenges that I have been involved with (on this forum and others).

I have re-checked the numbers, and everything came up as correct. The problem is the actual calculator, which is way off track (as I noticed while re-checking). So the same method was used for both, unfortunately, the method was flawed - and both results are wrong. Doing the actual math, 184.3 out of 193.1 equals exactly 4.774823657080837 %.

So the correct result would be 4.77 %, and neither of the other two.

I'd suggest using the starting weight only, and figuring out the result using this calculator: . On there, use the 'what is the percentage decrease/increase' option. Current (lower) weight first, then the higher (start) weight. That should get you a better, more correct result.

Thanks San.

I think that from now on we will use your calculator and always the weight from the very start of the challenge compared to the new weekly weight.

Omega - I think it's a great idea to do the percentage only in the end. Since you are giving us the mini challenges - we don't really have to know who lost the what %.
I liked the link San provided for calculating the percentage - I actually not sure how to use the one you gave :blush5: lol. oh well.
I am sure we'll figure it out in the end.

Weather - I'd take the UK's weather any day - even though I remember we had some pretty rainy summers there.
Here , in tornado alley - I have been living in fear for weeks now - listening to the tornado sirens go off is not fun. Especially with no "safe place" in our place.

LOL - if we are just using the start weight every week for comparison it is no effort for me to calculate the numbers...

If you just leave it blank - I'll calculate it for everyone and make a posting.

As for weather - I have no envy of people contending with tornadoes and similar... I just wish that we could count on a few weeks without rain... If we get two sunny days together it comes as such a surprise that we talk about it and we get sick of the rain and talk about that... The weather is about the main topic of conversation here...

Here are the points from San for the people that have mentioned that they want to continue so far, up to and including the 25th of May:

Points are for exercise, water and mini-challenges combined:

Justina - 501 points, 9.6 lbs lost so far (3.91%)
Omega - 519 points, 2.6 lbs lost so far (1.7%)
Belinda - 475 points, 8.8 lbs lost so far (4.64%)
Transparent - 512 points, 1.6 lbs lost so far (0.59%)

As discussed - we will be calculating the percents differently from this point forward

As will be the case from now on - let me know if anyone disagrees with totals.

Naturally - these need to be updated to cover the points earned last week - which is why we have been talking about different numbers for the weight percent.
I'll update when all the scoresheets are updated - I think that I am waiting for Transparent. :)
