History:
The senior whos wrestling locker was next to mine was a school record holding powerlifter, and a football player as well. I gathered my nerves and asked him about PL one day in early February, and he said to me 'be here tomorrow morning at 6:30 and I'll teach you everything'. Before this I just used to do a couple things to lift, but I'd never been in the weight room on my own...I was too intimidated.
The next morning I showed up a little before 6:30. It was a Friday and a squat day. I put on 25's, knowing I couldn't squat much. He came over and said 'try this' and put on 45's. I told him there was no way I could squat that. He said not to worry and that he would spot me. I went down, and stayed down. He had to lift me the entire way up. I was of course embarressed, but he played it off.
Ever since that day, I worked and worked and worked. It was a little hard at first because I was a sophomore and most of the other guys were bigger seniors who could put up even huge numbers. A few of them took my turn when we were doing a few things, and one even asked who the hell I was, but right when he did, the senior who brought me into the weight room at the beginning said 'he's with me' and the other guy just shut up. After a few months of going in there 4 out of the 5 school days and destroying myself, I gained myself respect from the bigger guys and was accepted as another lifter.
I love what I do. I love going into the weight room and working so hard that when I come out, it looks like I just got out of the shower. I love putting up numbers and seeing my numbers jump. I just love it.
The Problem:
In August, I went down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to help build homes for those who lost everything during Hurricane Katrina. Building houses in 120+ degree heat and living on 3 meals a day isn't the ideal conditions for somebody whos always trying to pack on muscle. I went from 167 before I left, to 153 when I got home. Most of it being muscle. I'm afraid to see what it did to my numbers, because I look at myself and now I'm kinda chubby when before I was decently chisled. I don't have a 4 pack anymore =(
I've barely been lifting all summer because I've been working 2 jobs-YMCA camp counselor for 5-8 year olds (7.50$ an hour), and a marketing job (15$ an hour) that together ate up my entire day. I've now ditched both of those jobs and have gotten myself a new one-DJ assistant (11$ an hour). But the DJ assitant job is only Friday and Saturdays, so that should be perfect. Just enough for car insurance, but not enough to be too intrusive on my life =]
I'm back, and I'm coming back big.
