Workout 2/1

Spinning

Our regular instructor was back - and we had a good class too. Back to normal in a way since the regulars (well, most of them) showed up.

As a side note, I'm making turkey chili for tomorrow's super bowl party at work. While I could make a double batch, I figure we're already getting hoagies and stromboli for lunch, so this would be kind of a tease/taste.

I think the double batch would be too much, since there are other stuff to eat, but yet on the other hand double batch would be good for leftovers...:D

How did the chili turn out? Hope it was a big success...:D

To me it was - I got 3 "Excellent" comments lol - one being from my taster... One of the people that works on the same floor I do really knows and enjoys food so I have her taste the results of my kitchen adventures. If it passes her muster then I know I did well. Also, I must be doing something right because my dad asked me what I was cooking (this was after I'd gotten home from work) and I told him it was turkey chili - he said something along the lines of not giving him a chance to taste any lol. So I made a double batch tonight (which I won't do again because the crockpot was sputtering like mad), and just put it into the fridge/freezer. Although I did forget to add the green chilis I don't think it's too noticeable (least from the bowl I had anyhow). I quite enjoy the recipe myself, and it's healthy to boot - (though next time I'll get the 99% fat free ground turkey vs the 94% - apparently it's a dollar more for the 99% - the price of being healthy...)

I went to the store last night, and in keeping with my goal of adding variety to my diet, I bought some kiwi fruit (8 pieces) simply because I'd not had it before, or if I had, it was so long ago I couldn't remember what they tasted like. The fruit itself looks like a brown fuzzy egg, and this skin is usually peeled off before eating. The inside is a light to dark green with edible black seeds in a ring about the middle. Tastewise it's tart like pineapples or strawberries, but with a somewhat heavier taste than those. Excellent on its own, I'd bet it'd be awesome in a smoothie (not an original idea I'm sure). At any rate, I am glad I expanded my horizons a little in trying out this "exotic" fruit.

I'm obviously behind on your diary! Thats great you tried kiwi! Its one of my favorites but I usually miss the "in season" part of the year to buy it cheaply. "Star fruit" is another fun one. have you tried that?

Yes I have but it was a number of years ago... I'm not sure if kiwi's in season - I just saw it at the grocery store and figured why not? I don't remember the pricing either, so chances are I didn't know enough to know if it was high or not. Still, I really enjoyed 'em and like I said, will plan on making smoothies with them to try that out...

the price difference between a pound of lean and a pound of extra lean is 2 dollars at my local market. i just deal with the fat.

i was thinking the other day while i was figuring out the calories for a recipe i made, that if you ever wanted to start doing a rough guesstimate of your daily calorie intake to break through your platue, you can toss me a recipe and i'll do the kcal and macro breakdown for ya.

Check out. You can buy the cheap stuff and turn it into the muy expensifico pretty easily. No damage done to the flavor, either. :)

Unless that's what you mean when you say "deal with the fat."

Workout 2/5

Chest Press (on bench) 1x8@65, 1x8@65, 1x8@65
Bent Row 1x12@50
Squat and Overhead Press 1x12@40
Standing on 1 Leg - Duration
Skullcrushers on Stability Ball 1x10@35
Cross Chop with Squat 2x12@40
Reverse Fly 1x12@30
Step Up with Front Raise 2x8@25
Bicep Curl 1x12@30, 1x5@30
Dips from the Bench 1x15
Oblique Twists on Stability Ball 2x15
Ball Bridge - 2 minutes, 20 seconds
Crunches on Ball 1x15@20
Hip Raise and Leg Curl (Feet on Stability Ball) 1x15

Had my program changed slightly - took the hammer curls out from the 1 leg balancing and added another set of bicep curls. I was sort of disappointed that I did so poorly with the bicep curls, but was happy I was able to hit 3x8@65 on the chest press.

Peanut Butter Granola Bars

So I put my money where my mouth is and decided to make the peanut butter granola bars from the recipe I've been talking about. I followed the recipe but for a bit of a screw up with the ingredients - I only added 1/4 tsp cinnamon and no salt. I don't think it will matter too much as I tasted the liquid portion of the recipe and it was certainly tasty. It's cooling right now, and the scent of peanut butter tinged with the dried cranberries is wafting through the downstairs as we speak. I have to let them cool before I cut them, but dang the stomach's making FEED ME noises something awful lol. I wonder if putting them outside will cool them down faster... (at 7 degrees not counting the windchill I think so - but I don't want to screw up their consistency/texture by freezing them like that... although it is tempting... very tempting...)

Too tempting as it turns out lol - I know I cut into them too early but I don't care - they're really really good :) I can see how the extra cinnamon and salt would come into play - but if you didn't know they were supposed to be there I doubt you'd miss them. At any rate, as predicted - vastly superior to store bought versions. Will definitely make these again.

Star fruit is good. When Ash went on one of her field trips, they let the kids sample it. I tried it to and we both liked it.

I miss home.. fruits are abundant there and seemingly endless variety. We had a starfruit tree at the backyard, and mango trees, banana, papaya (just threw the seeds out to the garden, they will grow), and many other fruits you cant find here in US :/

I made some like these from here on the forum while back. They were good. I'll defintely make them again. Will try your recipe and see how close they are. It's pretty much the same recipe but yours adds more fruits and whatnot. Mine was just a basic recipe.

Where are you from? I would miss that too.

Actually I picked up a couple star fruits last night at the grocery store (for 2/$5.00) - so am interested to see how they'll taste.

I really don't remember them having a special taste. To me they taste like a fruit.
