You are awesome, TM! Is it ok if I call you Pete from now on or would you prefer TM?

I wouldn’t say awesome but thanks Cate.

I guess because of the original link I posted and no way to hide my name everyone knows now anyway so yeah sure. Pete is good :D

...so in true Truffle Monster style...
:D I love it! Go, you!

Ok I’m far too tired to go into detail here but the long story short is I’m back from my longest ride yet 168.98km which means I broke the IMPERIAL CENTURY!!!!

this also means the offical kms for the challenge are done and dusted. I’m not going to review the goal again but I will probably head out for a couple of short rides between now and the end of the month. B4FC2324-1099-4039-AB44-3860C976C218.png4DDAB271-083C-4B5F-996D-F28DEB6522CD.png

168.89 km is actually about:
105 English Statue or Imperial Miles (the mile we use most often in the US)
114 Roman Miles
89 Old English Miles (the Imperial Mile before 1593)
91 Nautical Miles (we use still use nautical miles and knots for measures over water)
27 Welsh Miles
93 Scots Miles
82 Irish Miles
A long long ride by any measure!

hahaha. Thanks Rob. I’m going to have to aim for 100 welsh miles now!

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here; mostly work related after the October cycling challenge. Work has just been exceptionally full on. My role has changed a lot over the last 12 months. Initially I was an operations manager then I moved onto project management now I’m doing both across a few different businesses. It’s FULL ON but I am enjoying the challenge.

what this full on work has meant though is I haven’t been out cycling for a while so I took the opportunity for a ride last night. Made it 7kms and felt a sharp snap in my hamstring. In usual Pete style I pushed on but soon realised I’d done something stupid so ended up only doing 20kms. I’m now in considerable pain. Just going to rest up for a few days now; I’ll start working on the weights again so I still get some exercise in. it really only hurts when I stand up, Lie down or ride the bike. Sitting and walking is fine somehow. :nopity:

Sitting and walking are probably fine because they need little to no hamstring activity. Did you hear that snap as well? If you did you should definitely get yourself to a doctor. Otherwise only probably. I hope I'm wrong and you heal up very quickly.

That doesn't sound good, funny that after riding over 1,500 km you got hurt on a 7 km ride. Maybe the stress happened before you felt it. I am sure you'll get it figured out, but it may take a while.

Hey I appreciate all your support, without you I probably would not have had the confidence to get a bike and start riding. I know my rides are not much compared to what you are used to, but I think they are good for me, and an exercise I am more likely to stick with.

Yes the irony didn’t escape me either.

you’re very welcome Rob but you’re the one who’s done all the hard work.

nah no audible snap. I’ll be alright. No need for a quack at this point.

Well I’m down but not out. As promised it’s after the challenge so the bike is now in bits and most of the paint is stripped. I’m now in 2 (or more) minds about where to go with it.

my options are (and I’d appreciate help deciding):

- gloss black with a gold crystal effect on the top of the top tube

- polished aluminium with gloss black front forks

- grey with red accents

as for gearing I’ve got a few options:

- keep it 2 X 8 speed but replace the front chainrings with new 53/36
- upgrade to 2 X 10 speed (expensive)
- upgrade to 1 X 10 speed (not AS expensive)

as for style I’ve got 2 options:

- keep it as an out and out road bike (not necessary as I’ve got my giant to ride)
- change it to a “in vogue” gravel bike (with 1X 10 gearing) however I probably wouldn’t ever ride it on gravel

deciding to change to a gravel bike is really dependant on brakes and could cause a considerable amount of work; I’d need to weld on fittings because I can’t use the caliper brakes it’s designed for with bigger gravel tyres.

ah decisions decisions. There’s still a bit of paint stripping work to do but that’ll take some fine sanding to get off.

Go with whatever would make you happiest.
My preference would be grey with red accents, but they all sound good. I love black with silver & don't like gold. I'm glad your hamstring will be ok with rest!
