Well I did it. The city to bay fun run is over and I never have to run again :)

I made the mistake of wearing brand new shoes so I have a blister the size of my fist on my right heel.

Well- you proved to yourself that you could do it! Well done, TM.
Boo to having a massive blister though!

Absolutely. I wasn’t out to set any land speed records so I’m content with that. I’ve pulled up pretty well today all things considered. My legs are a little achy but that’s it.

In other news I’ve bought a couple of new lights for the bike. There’s no excuse to not see me now. I’ve not 2 headlights (the new one is exceptionally good quality and very bright), 2 tail lights and a motion sensoring orange light in each wheel. (Don’t know how legal they are)

Public transport in Adelaide is wonderful, but that is a great extra service. Because of my fragrance sensitivities, I would prefer BO to smelly fragrance. At least everyone would have been in the same boat(tram).

Great pictures, it sounds like a very successful event, and for a very good cause as well. Sounds like the ride home on the tram was interesting, most people probably were understanding.

Thanks for posting on my diary, it is always good for me to see support from people like you.

Today I ordered a bike, its the Trek Roscoe 7 we talked about. I did try to get them to replace the tires with the cyclocross tires you suggested, but at the discount they were offering I would have to take the stock tires and then buy the cyclocross tires separately. So I will try the knobby tires for a while. I also believe I need the tubeless anti-flat tire that comes with the bike. We have a terrible infestation of goat's heads (Tribulus terrestris - Wikipedia ) a very nasty invasive weed that produces a spur that punctures tires, I have had to replace tires on my lawnmower and wheelbarrow with solid tires due to those damned things. Sometimes they can even flatten a car tire.

The bike should be ready by the weekend, I think I will start with less ambitious rides around the yard and close to home, then see where I feel comfortable from there.

It really was a good event, everyone was happy and cheerful, the money goes to great use and it’s great to see people pushing themselves.

Awesome news about the bike Rob. That makes perfect sense about the tyres. You can get thornproof inner tubes but they’re pretty pricy. They’re meant for cyclocross and downhill riding for pretty much that function. They add a little weight but that’s only a concern for weight weenies with 6.7kg bikes and carbon shoes.

Best of luck and I hope you enjoy it. After the bike and obligatory safety gear my recommendation is to download the strava app on a phone or buy a GPS cycling computer. I use a base model Garmin edge 705 and it does everything I need and a whole lot more.

I made the mistake of honesty with service SA on Thursday when renewing my drivers licence so I got sent to the optometrist to get an eyesight certificate. Just came back and as usual my right eye caused a scene with everyone wanting to look at it (uncommon injury so it’s interesting to doctors). My left eye however passed with flying colours. I now legally NEED to wear my glasses while driving and get this report done every 2 years to maintain my licence.

In other news I’ve felt like utter crap the last 2 days. Obviously on Sunday I ran the fun run then first thing Monday morning I donated plasma (they were supposed to take 750ml but actually took 826 - not sure how that mistake happened). Since then I’ve felt very light headed and dizzy. I didn’t think about the dates when I booked my appointment so strenuous exercise followed by plasma donation leaves you feeling horrid. I know it’s just my body being a little starved of red blood cells so I’ve had my feet up resting all day today (worked yesterday and regretted it).

Stupidly though I rode my bike to the optometrist today ... it was hard work. Not only did I not have as many red blood cells delivering oxygen around my body but my tyres were less than half the pressure they should have been.

I’m paying the price now!

:( But you're safely home now, I deduce. Phew. That was putting a bit too much challenge on your body all at once. I hope you can rest up for a day or two now.

It's a bummer to have those extra constraints on your licence and renewal, but you did it to contribute to road safety, so thanks from me, as a road user!

I made the mistake of honesty with the blood bank re having an enlarged ascending aorta & then they wouldn't take my plasma anymore. I'm glad you do, TM. Well done on speaking up. You are a very responsible road user. I hope you have taken it easy & given your body a chance to recover.

That makes a lot more sense!

I went into work today and found that most of my office is off sick with a virus that starts with dizziness and light headed sensations. I was wondering how a single plasma donation could make me feel so ill. I’ll have to call them tomorrow and tell them to discard my plasma. Such a shame.

No ideas at this point what this virus is or how long it will last but whatever it is it’s not pleasant.

My cycling challenge starts in 2 weeks so I’m kinda glad it hit me now and not in October. I’d hate to be riding with this feeling!

That sucks. It’s a good feeling to be able to donate. Just the knowledge that part of you has in some small way helped save a life.

Oh and I can’t believe I’ve not shared this yet!

As of last weekend my Father is officially in remission!

No more chemo; just a check up in 3 months time. I’m so grateful. I’ve not prayed so hard for anything in a VERY long time.

Ok after saying I’d hate to be riding while I feel like this I went for a ride ... I actually feel SLIGHTLY better for it. I guess it blew out some cobwebs.

That is such good news, TM :beating:
