Monster’s diary

The weather stayed dry enough to get out and ride tonight so an easy 40km under my belt. No climbing; just all flat. I took a different route and did some exploring in the local area.

I’m trying to work out my game plan for October when the 40+km/day rolls around. I think if I do 25km before work and 25km after work 4 days a week then a long (80km+) ride every Saturday and Sunday that will give me enough so that I can have a rest day every week and have enough in the bank to have the odd impromptu rest day.

I’d planned to take a ride along the river on the way home from work today so I brought my bike. On the way in I realised that although I’d brought all my cycling clothes and shoes etc I’d forgotten my helmet! Ah well. Maybe I’ll remember tomorrow. 383B8070-0B31-4B21-94D8-BD06F0BB69A0.jpeg

I did it!

I got out of bed early! I’m really not a morning person but I snoozed my alarm 3 times, threw on my cycling kit and headed out for a pre breakfast (kinda) ride. I just had a oat bar before leaving. I’m now showered and ready for work. Just getting my stuff together now.

I think I pushed the speed a little too much for a morning ride. I should learn from that though. Managed to tick over exactly 25km.

Feeling good ... except now I know I have 8 hours of mind numbing tedium at work ahead of me. E028A51C-A770-4483-85C5-3118BD312A55.png

Day one of morning and evening ride done and dusted.

My chain was completely gunked up so I’ve swapped it out with a new one. Since I can’t afford any downtime in October I’ve got a spare chain so I can clean and dry one and put the spare on so I can keep riding.

Nothing of note to mention from today’s ride; it was rather mundane and a little boring. One close pass from a car (generous bloke gave me about a foot of space) but nothing else.

I continue to be impressed with your lifestyle, you must really enjoy riding. It looks like you spend 2 hours on your bicycle yesterday, that must be a lot of your free time.

No morning ride today. I barely slept a wink last night so took the opportunity to catch up. Sleep is very important to muscle recovery. Probably more so than pushing it.

On another note my bottom bracket and crankset needs to be replaced. I think a bearing is partially collapsed as I’ve got a few mm of play in the crank. Should be able to get it replaced next week. The bike is due for a service anyway

A very nice surprise came along today.

My goal of $500 for the fundraiser has been reached and I’m now sitting at $691 raised which is 46th in Australia and 6th in South Australia ... won’t be for long but it is now.

I’m just about to head out for a ride now.

Yep. Most riding days are 2 hours or there abouts. Luckily my lifestyle allows for that though. No kids and a flexible job. I just love the feeling of getting somewhere under my own steam.

Just got back from a ride. I decided to ride to my partners house for a visit. It’s not far (20odd kms) but there is one steep hill in the way that just seems to keep going and going and going and going.

It was a tough ride but I made it there eventually. 44C5F48C-CA45-4992-ABD6-381E022C2DD0.jpegDC7B0838-DE36-4A07-A4B0-2E1C6E7A5768.jpeg

Another sleepless night last night so no morning ride but I’ll make up for it tonight. I’ve got an early training day tomorrow so I won’t make the morning ride on Saturday either BUT 100% on Sunday.

For anyone who’s interested I’m currently sitting by myself having a full sugar coke and a huge piece of mud cake 32km into a ride in North Adelaide

Mwahahaha :)

Well I’m back home. It’s very late (12:30) and I need to be up at 7 but that’s ok. That’s future me’s problem.

Tonight was a good ride. A couple of fishermen looked at me strangely when I rode past them talking to myself in a super villain voice (riding a long flat section can be boring and I sometimes do silly things to keep myself entertained). I didn’t realise they were there until I was fully committed to the monologue hahaha.

Anyway ima gunna go to bed now. Nighty night. F1F79932-4F6D-45AF-AAA1-32A6C1F55278.jpeg

Burning calories the way you are it seems appropriate. You need to take a lot in.

It’s amazing how much I’m taking in recently. I’ve never eaten so much in all my life. I had breakfast, lunch, dinner, cake supper and then when I got home a chunk of cheese. Somehow though I keep slimming. I need to be careful not to say losing weight because I’m not losing any at all. I’m up to 86 now but my measurements are dropping.

Hey TM,

I have been trying to read diaries of people who have lost significant weight and then kept it off, you are one of those. I am hoping that by understanding what folks like you have done I can improve my chances of doing the same.

In your case it appears you lost most of your weight before you started posting here. Unless I missed something I don't see much about your history of weight and weight loss. Maybe its there and I just missed it, your diary is long. Anyway if its not too intrusive can I ask how did you come to be overweight? And how did you lose weight before you started posting here?

One thing I saw in your very first post that I like is:

I don’t really have an end goal. I don’t care about weight or bmi or anything like that. Truth be told I’m not actually trying to lose weight per se. I’m just enjoying being active again and in order to be as active as I want I guess I’m going to lose weight.

I can relate to that, though I am heavy enough that I don't have the luxury of not wanting to lose weight, I know without that I won't be able to get healthier. My version of this is that I just want to eat right and not give into my cravings, I know if I do that the weight will come off, I set no real goals except to eat right for the day.
