Looking to lose an extra human I apparently picked up along the way

I'd definitely grab a pair of gloves, they don't cost much and will protect your hands. Good to own a set anyway, if you ever get in to the hook and jab pads with a trainer it's great having your own set- my experience is the ones provided at the gym usually make your hands smell like mouldy feet.

You actually can row with just your back and arms!

Although boxing sounds like a lot more fun, I keep looking on Craigslist for used punching bags (there's a "Singles Section" joke in there somewhere), but then I picture how crowded my little home gym will be, especially after Xmas, when I hope to get a bench and weight set.

I posted a question about it in the "Weight Loss Through Exercise" section that had some good responses on form, etc. Worth looking there (I'm too lazy to look for the link).

312.5 this morning! Holy crap! My advice to myself is to start drinking heavily; water that is.

Anyway that passes the 60 pound mark and flies right on by it without stopping. I'm at a loss for words right now (to which most of you are saying "finally!"). Well, I'll take it.

Personal training in about an hour.

312.5 again this morning which feels like a loss since yesterday's plunge was so dramatic and unexpected. Holding at the same seems like a good thing.

For really the first time folks are starting to notice independent of me telling them I've been working on it. Seems odd that it takes 60 pounds for that to happen, but I guess when you're as big as I am it's hard to differentiate between a fat guy and a guy who is still a fat guy but not quite as fat as he used to be. Oh well, unless I hire Kate Upton as a house cleaner, I suppose it's not worth worrying about.

On the subject of weird scale readings, I choose to weigh almost every day because I've built a little mathematical model (I'm an uber-geek) that smooths out the day to day weight readings into a general trend. This gives me a little steadiness amidst the ups and downs and allows me not to freak out over a reading that has a lot of inherent volatility, particularly at my size. One neat upside to this is it gives predictions for my weight on future dates:

January 14, 2013: 299.6

April 9, 2013: 275 (100 pounds lost)

July 1, 2013: 252.7 (1 year mark)

February 4, 2014: 199.6

April 9, 2014: 185 (goal weight)

August 17, 2016: 13.9

Okay maybe the model's not perfect. ;)

Hahaha! I go mental if I weigh every day, I have a real problem with fluid retention though. I get disheartened after eating so healthy and stepping on the scales to see I'm up over a kg, but then it's gone again the next day. Eh, it's all to do with my food intolerance issues. Good times.

That program sounds cool though!

I think it sort of happens to everyone (obviously I didn't lose six 'real' pounds in two days). My theory is that if I only weighed once a week, that day each week could be a particularly good or particularly bad day or a normal day and weighing weekly it would be tough to tell.

Right now it's kinda the best of both worlds. When it's a bad number it doesn't really bug me too much (a little), but when it's a good one I get over-excited even though I really shouldn't. So I suppose it really depends on the person. If the scale gives you stress, stay off it as much as possible while still monitoring your weight. If it doesn't, then weigh away.

I dunno, maybe I'm full of it. Well there's probably no 'maybe' about it. It's the stretch drive to 299. When I get there I'll post some pics of me. That should clear this place out.

Let's see some pics, brutha, I posted myself up without getting banned, that means ANYONE can do it.

I agree about the "bad day" weekly weigh-in thing. I usually check every couple days, I seem to go up 3-4 on the weekends, when I might have a beverage or go out to eat, then go down 4-6 during the week when I'm being much healthier.

When the web cam gets here I'll post some. I'm very bad at the camera in the mirror thing, though I do have one pic from July 1st (the day I started).

312 this morning which is my former Area Code. Fortunately I never quite made it to my current Area Code (480).

Personal training today which lately has meant a serious workout. Very good for me. Today is day 150 of the process, so roughly five months now.

The weather around here remains ideal. 78F/26C today. Maybe go out and get some early X-mas shopping done later today.

Because I'm bored, I guess I'll spam my thread a little with tomorrow's 'Lucy style' food plan. This won't be a regular occurrence, but I figure it might be interesting to divulge the sorts of things I eat.

Breakfast = 570 Calories:

Two Egg Cheese Omelet = 260 Calories (2 Eggs = 140, Cheese = 80, Butter = 40, Salt and Black Pepper = 0)
THREE (usually two) slices of Maple Bacon = 135 calories (surprisingly that's all that's in bacon once you cook all the fat away)

10 fl oz of Concord Grape Juice = 175 (I don't like red wine much, but this type of juice actually has some of the same stuff that's good for you)

Morning Snack = Navel Orange = 85 Calories (plus you burn calories peeling it)

Lunch = Open Faced Roast Beef Sammie in BBQ Sauce (5 oz leftover Roast Beef = 230, slice o' bread = 80, piece o' cheese = 80, 2 Tbsp o' Sweet Baby Ray's= 70) = 460 calories

Afternoon Snack = String Cheese and a few baby carrots = 100 calories (85 for the cheese, 15 for the carrots)

At this point you may notice that this diet might not be so good for folks who have issues with dairy. For those I'd recommend Lucy's uncheese, :D

The Dinner Feast = My Famous Adobe Pie! = 740 calories (4 oz ground cow (browned, crumbled and drained) = 240, Taco Spices = 5, Instant Mashed Potatoes = 360, 176g o' mixed veggies = 120, butter to grease dish = 15, paprika = 0)

Dessert = 30g of Chocolate covered walnuts = 170 calories

Total = 2,125 calories, leaving 75 left over for a random pickles or carrots at night if I must have something.

Now there's some significant sodium problems in there and obviously this is not a low fat diet. I know that's not really enough veggies, but it's not far off from being enough. It seems unlikely I'll ever be able to date a vegan though. :) This is sort of extreme though. I'm not always such an out of control carnivore. The next day I'm going fiber heavy to balance this out a little.

But that stuff sure doesn't sound like, look like or taste like diet food and the portions are all pretty modest (with the good exception being that 176g of veggies is a bunch). It's probably a lousy diet, but I have a lot of weight to lose and it seems to cover me nutritionally. I've eaten like this and have lost weight and I haven't had any health markers show up too bad.

My big concern is the sodium especially when you mix in a couple of cans of Diet Coke. But I don't have hypertension, I don't have a family history of hypertension and people don't fill this stuff up with sodium because it tastes bad.

AI like that you have a good breakfast in there and aren't trying to stay low calorie in the morning. Find that mornings I start off with a bigger breakfast tend to go better than the days I skimp on breakfast.

Sodium might be a little high but I don't think that's a bad thing, with the intense workouts you're probably losing a lot of sodium through sweat so you're likely only replenishing your sodium stores. Can always consider a fruit swap of a potassium rich source like a banana in place of the navel orange to balance out the sodium equation.

Tried to fudge it so I could make a joke about taking the train to Yuma today, but to be honest it's only 310.5 this morning so I'm a half pound short. Am I the only one here that's ever been to Yuma?

Personal training this afternoon and then that's it for that until Monday.

As for bananas, I can't keep the little yellow bastards from going bad. They go from unripe to falling apart in two days. So I've tended to stick with fridge fruit.

Mesa is just East Phoenix with a meth problem.

Yuma is actually it's own little metropolitan area over where California, Arizona and Mexico all meet. If you go from Phoenix to San Diego, you go through Yuma.

Having gotten lost on the way to the plant, I would tend to agree. However, it's still cool as &#$% to see those Apaches getting assembled!

I thought your food for the day looked good! Lol I don't even bother looking at things like sodium, I have pretty low blood pressure so I'm used to adding salt to most things (it's naturally low, all the females in my family have it from my mum's side) I think you have the right amount of fats in there too, low fat diets are a big no-no. I think you're definitely on the right path there!

Bananas- we have to buy all of ours unripe as that's just how they are, so I buy a big bunch and they all ripen at once. Whatever I don't use I peel and freeze- they are great like that to add to smoothies, baking, oatmeal, etc. Or blending them up with some unsweetened cocoa powder and nut butter makes some pretty tasty ice-cream!

Lucy, I'm pretty sure my diet would kill you ded, pretty much immediately.

On a personal note, my personal trainer used the phrase, 'true dat' today. Old age has just seemed to sneak up on me. :ack2:
