Kimmyluna's Weight Loss Diary Continued

So, I've decided I might try this again. I hope to actually reach my goals this time!
I used to be on here a few years back and fell out of the groove after having two boys. They are now 3 and 5 years old.

Current Stats:
Ht: 5ft3in
Wt: 145 lbs
Goal Wt: 130

Daily Goals:
  • Walk the dog around the block in the morning, before school and after work. That is about 1 mile round trip.
  • 20 pushups, 20 squats, 30 second plank. Progressing higher reps as it gets easier.
  • Drink more water, no soda.
  • Lower my sugar and creamer intake in my coffee.
  • Go to bed by midnight on weekdays.
I have a bad habit of going to bed too late and then because I have to be up early to take the boys to school, I want to take a nap in the midmorning to rest before work in the afternoon. The daddy/hubby watches them in the afternoon.

I even went out and bought a better leash and a cute umbrella to protect me from the harsh FL sun. I like to dye my hair red, so the sun will fade it faster. I find it kinda funny that I would buy an umbrella specifically for my walks when I had 3 already, but I feel a tad silly using an umbrella when it's not raining.

I do have a very active job where I'm constantly on my feet and moving around for a good part of 8 its a day, so I know that helps a lot, too. I kinda wish I knew how many steps I take at work. As a cost, I use shoe inserts in my sneakers so my feet don't hurt at the end of the day.

Another thing I might consider is walking to work, too. I live 1 mile away from work. I guess that umbrella might come in real handy for that. Florida is just so damn hot! And humid! Very nasty.

I will try to keep my progress posted.

Took my first walk around the block earlier. The umbrella idea is nice, but the heat is still annoying. Guess I can't do much about that.

Fitness Wardrobe Goals:
12 pairs each of:
  • Sports bras
  • Fitness leggings
  • Camis because they're so inexpensive
  • No show socks
The idea is that I will always have at least 3 pairs of each clean at any given time, so I don't have the excuse of not having any clothes to wear. Because the problem right now is that I only have 1 sports bra, 3 leggings and socks that looks funny with capris. Any of those athleisure outfits you see never have socks showing since it looks tacky.

A belated welcome back to the forum, kimmyluna. I have been away for a few days. Will pop in later. You sound like you are planning to succeed & are getting well prepared. :)

So, this is what happens when you just don't have the motivation to do anything about it. It's been about 10 months since I've been on here last and I haven't really lost or gained any weight during that time. My weight varies from 145-150 lbs. At least I'm not getting bigger. My body seems to be very happy staying at 150 lbs.

What's funny is that I was thinking that if I posted every single fitness motivation picture that I have on my Pinterest page, I would have one a day for about 3 years. Now that would be some dedication if I could do that. My first biggest motivation I need is to be able to post one entry into my diary here everyday. Because I know if I do, I will actually be trying to work towards my goal a little at a time. I usually end up forgetting about dieting and exercise in between those stints of trying to better myself.

A few things that has happened recently is walking to work (a mile away and one small part of it is a really steep hill) for a week because my car needed fixing and was undriveable. Also, used a bike a few times there, too. I want to get a better bike seat and a light, first, though.transformation.jpg

have you ever looked at everything you buy for sugar/ added sugar? when i started paying attention to this, it made a huge difference in my weight loss attempts. i try to keep my sugar intake <10gm/ day. even that isn't easy.

the other thing you should keep in mind is that you are overweight, but not that much. when i started zeroing in on a healthy BMI, my weight loss went from a steady 2-2.5 lbs/ week to maybe that in a month. this may be going against everything you've heard, but i had the best encouragement tracking my weight 3-4 times/ day over a month. any one day you may get a high or low reading and if you only weight yourself once / week like some people suggest, you will not see a trend. when you graph multiple weigh-ins day, over time you should see a steady loss while you can ignore the high and low anomalies.

Hi Kimmyluna and welcome back! Dropping by every day just to remind yourself of your goals can be very effective and I look forward to all those motivational pics (the lady in this one is a bit too underweight for my taste but to each their own).

Welcome back, Kimmyluna :D
You have done well to maintain. Keeping a diary is a great way to keep yourself accountable & get support. Go us! :D

Hey Kimmy, looks like you are off to a good start, I am looking forward to reading about your progress.

What part of Florida are you in? I grew up in Dunedin and lived in Franklin county a long time. Moved to Utah (my wife's home) a couple of years ago. I like it here but sometimes miss the Sunshine State.

I have to agree with the others, the woman in your picture looks too skinny to me, but she does seem healthy.

Hello, kimmyluna. :) Good for you, for the mile-long walk to work. I think walking is great exercise - plus, it takes you places!

Yeah, it's usually the message in the pictures that attract me to them, not the model themselves. I agree, too, they are usually way too skinny and I know I would never get to that, anyway. That is like 100% dedication there. Rob, I'm in central florida, near Orlando. Florida is just too darn hot.

Exercises done today:
20 pushups
30 squats

I pulled out my stepper to use in the living room. Goal is to do 10 minutes of stair stepping everyday. I was thinking of how I could reward myself for exercising and I would like to get more clothes and that kind of thing, but I would rather spend any extra spending money on my boys. They need it more than I do. They are 4 and 6 yrs old now. I know I have to buy them more clothes soon for school. So, as I can, I will try to buy things for myself, too. Such as, I want to get a rechargeable bike light, since I would be getting out of work at 10 at night. I had bought a bike light that took watch like batteries and need to return them.

It's hard to keep motivated, but I will definitely try.daed2e44515c4146344281ef48c00720.jpg

Are there rewards that wouldn't cost money? Half an hour in the tub after a long day? Making fill-in-the-blank nobody else in the family likes so you haven't had it in a while? Anything that makes you feel good.

I've tried to think of any good non-money ideas, but honestly, there isn't much!:D Spending money on myself, I feel, is the biggest reward, since it usually gets spent on my family. And I don't like how its hard to remember the last time I bought myself something I really wanted. That's not selfish, is it?

A rechargeable bike light sounds like a good idea. Taking some time on your own to do something relaxing?

Not at all. You are allowed to have needs. AND wants. If you need an "excuse" for that: you´re modelling behavior for your kids. Do you want them to learn that everyone else comes first or do you want to teach them that everyone´s needs matter, their own included.

i can sympathize with you about Florida humidity... i used to visit relatives there and i remember just sitting still in the shade some summer days and even then sweating.

here is something i did when i was a Boy Scout that proved to be an extremely accurate way of pacing off distance. find an unused football field at a local high school. count your steps over 100 yards... 2 or 3 times should give you a great accuracy. you'll probably discover that for the 100 yards, each time your number of steps will be very close to each other. take that average number of steps and divide it into 3600 (inches in 100 yards). mine is so close to 30" (2½ feet), i simply count by 5's when i walk a full stride and i can get really close.

if you want to go simpler and you only stick to streets, use Google Maps. plot your walk and it will not only calculate your distance, but it does a fairly good job of plotting elevation changes, too.

5 goals I have that I want to check off everyday:
1. Skip the sugar in my coffee. Only creamer.
2. Do 50 squats, 50 pushups and a 30 second plank.
3. Pull out my stepper and use it for 10 minutes in the morning and after work.
4. Avoid soda, drink more water or unsweetened tea.
5. Ride my bike to work.

I still work at the job where I have to be on my feet and doing alot of squatting and picking up heavy things for 5-8 hrs a day, so I know that will help me with that.

Already did goal #2, feeling good right now. Goal #5 will wait though till I get that bike light first.

Hey Kimmy, it looks like you are doing pretty well, keeping to your goals is great! One thing however.......
Florida is just so damn hot! And humid! Very nasty.
The humidity is one of the things I miss about Florida. I am originally from south Louisiana, but my family moved to Florida when I was young, I grew up back and forth, mostly in Florida. I can tell you for sure, Florida is not as humid as Louisiana; I grew up thinking of Florida as cool and dry. Back in that era no one had air conditioning; we just got used to the humidity. I do have to admit that once we could afford air conditioning we got it, and used it at least in the heat of summer. Now that I have moved to Utah I miss the humidity.

Best of luck to you and keep on posting, you are doing well!
