My Life in a Nutshell: My name is Noemi, but people call me "Emi." I grew up thinking that I was overweight at about 138-148lbs, then I fell into a period of depression where I quit my job, stayed home pretty much isolated for 2 years, and then I really did become overweight when I gained close to 40lbs. Now topping at 180lbs, I am seeking counseling for my depression and anxiety, seeking a new job (because I'm broke!), and wanting to lose weight. I'm 26 years old, and I have a birthday in a few months (on September 29) and I want to lose about 30lbs by then! My main problem is that I have very low energy and motivation, so that's why I want to start a 'team' here and help myself and others at the same time keep motivated and successful starting RIGHT NOW.

About This Montly Challenge: If you join, you will be expected to post an update of your weight every Tuesday of every week, starting tomorrow, June 1st. The full date list is below. You'll also be expected to post an entry with some basic information of yourself and some other hopefully fun and informational items.

Sample Entry: Below is *my* first entry here, and this is an example of how yours will be every single week, the only thing that is optional is the photo. You obviously don't have to post a personal photo if you don't want to. I chose to do it because I am starting this thread and I want to prove that I'm a real person and not some like gargoyale. (And yes that made no sense since gargoyales don't exist...but whatever, I think you got my point, right? Don't answer that...)

Weekly Tip
Eat foods that are low in calories, but really fill you up. I have found that eating a bowl of oatmeal with a sweetner or some fruit is very filling and has low calories.


Weekly Warning
Don’t skip meals to try to “save calories” because you normally end up binging. So just try to eat moderately throughout the day.

The weigh ins are officially Tuesday, but if you want to modify it to fit your pre-established weigh in day, that's absolutely fine. The important thing is that you weigh in once a week!

I'm Daniel, I'm 25. My target is 189lbs. Hopefully by xmas :) I have lost a lot of weight before but it crept back on :(

June 1st: 280lbs

Tip: You need to keep your metabolism going through the day. Eat six times a day, three meals and three snacks. Snacks should be rich in protein and low in fat. Also low in carbs, unless you are eating close to exercising. Drink 500ml of water before every meal to consume on average 15% less calories.

Warning: Don't eat too much fruit. 2-3 pieces a day is good, the rest should be made up by veg for your five a day. Too much fruit equals too much natural sugars, and some people struggle to assimilate this natural sugar. It can get stored, then turn into fat. Yikes :O

Inspirational quote: To err is human, to forgive divine. If you have lost your way on your weightloss path, don't give yourself too much grief. Forgive yourself for your mistake and move on from here.

Inspirational music: Well, not so much inspirational as good to exercise to is Hey Boy Hey Girl by the Chemical Brothers. The beat in that will have your body working twice as hard with energy!!!

I am going to add a pic. I hate my body, and it is sooo incredibly difficult to post it here for others to see. Its shaming and embarrassing, but hopefully in a few months it will look totally different. So avert your eyes if you're squeamish, and don't be too harsh!!

I knew someone would say that! lol That's why I posted at the bottom that it's just weekly, so that information you can gather in probably 5 minutes. So 5 minutes out of your week, isn't much right? Just nod and agree with me. :)

Hmm...that's a good tip. I am definitely planning on eating at least 5 meals (3 full meals, 2 snacks) but I wouldn't mind adding another healthy snack. I really need to form some kind of journal/outline.

Wow. I had no clue. Do you know if eating the same fruits is bad for you? I mean, I know you should strive for variety, but I didn't grow up eating many fruits or vegetables so they are not really easy to consume at the moment. I do have favorites that I can eat every day (so far) without much trouble. They are bananas, grapes, grapefruits and apples for fruits. And um...cabbage, carrots, tomato, and broccoli for veggies.

It does feel like "gym" music, though I'm not really a fan of gym music. I like to listen to like "happy/peppy" music since that's what I lack naturally on my own. *sad face* lol

Well, what you may lack in physicality you make up in courage! I won't be posting a body pic until probably next month. I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaay too embarrassed to post one right now. So congrats on having the guts to do what I can't do *yet*. :)


Anyway, Daniel, I took your advice and I'm leaving my treadmill for another woman! The trail at the park! lol I invited my mom to go with me and she wants to so we'll do that, then go to the movie or something. So thanks for that bit of motivation!

You should strive for as many different colours of fruit and veg as possible, as the colour is an indication of different nutrients in the food. For example, blueberries, carrots, tomatoes, a green apple, a banana and different coloured peppers is great variety as they all contain different good things for you. But if you can't manage a whole spectrum of colours, something is better than nothing! Start upping your intake. Five a day is a myth. Its AT LEAST five a day, and its said now closer to 7 or 8 is preferable.

Weekly Tip: When I'm tempted to go overeat, go back for multiple servings, remember that the food will always be there tomorrow, too!
Weekly Warning: Ummm....I guess, don't try and eat a lot less to make up for extra calories the day after you have too much! It'll only set you up for another binge day, at least in my personal experience.

*rushes to treadmill* Nooooooooo! She's mine, Danny, and you can't have her! We've just had a lover's quarrel right now but I'll be back and she'll be waiting for me! So, she's mine! *hugs her*

Okay this love metaphor just got very strange! *eek* lol

It's actually a pretty good treadmill. It's a Nordic Track...um...what's that number...A2550 or A2250. Something like that, but it is making this strange noise and I've told my brother to call and find out (since last week) but he hasn't. I'd do it myself but with my social anxiety, I really don't like making phone calls. I reminded him last night so hopefully today he'll call and find out what's wrong with it, if anything. It probably just needs oil somewhere...

That's a good tip. When I'm cutting out foods, I also sometimes tell myself, "It's only for a month, and you know that once you've lost weight you can eat that again in moderation..." so I totally get what you mean here.

Thanks for the kind compliments! I actually went back and took off the pictures...too embarassing!! lol

I know I don't need to lose a ton of weight or anything. But I gained a lot of weight since I started college (25 kg- I was around 50 kg at my graduation), and I did because my eating habits changed, got unhealthy, and I kept trying to lose the weight by crash dieting, which just made everything worse. So my main focus is really on eating healthfully, and if I lose weight doing it, that would be ideal, but not neccessary. :)

Hello i'm pretty new to this forum. I've joined the end of the year challenge as well. Growing up I was always told I looked to thin. I could eat whatever and however I wanted and I never gained weight. Even after my first 2 kids, I came out of the hospital wearing my size 5/6 jeans. I was a stay at home mom then as well so I only ate what was in the house during the day. Fast forward.....The kids started school and I decided I wanted to work. I got a job working with disabled adults. Well my job is to take people out in the community for a fun outing of their pickings. Seeing that most of the people I take out live in group homes and probably don't get to choose alot of what they eat usually, guess where they want to go on our outings? McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, ect.......Well now that Im older the all I can eat thing just doesn't work like it used to. So I'm starting to take some control now...

This sounds like a fun challenge! Emi our birthdays are very close and I also want to lose around the same amount of weight. This month my focus is to get out of the overweight category! My other goal is to try a 10k marathon for my city! I live next to Tokyo Disneyland so Mickey will be there but I think he will not run it ha ha! I can now run 7k without stopping and have lot's of time to get ready so I know it's possible! I live in Japan and bought a really lovely (and expensive!) yukata/summer kimono last year but it is such a waste if I stay this big... If I can keep on track I really want to take a short trip to Okinawa in August with my husband and son!

Oh, they weren't embarrasing, Maiko! You look really good. Anyway, I know how it is about gaining weight in college. I gained a few pounds there myself, although I ended up gaining the most post-college during my "mental health" crisis, as I call it now. lol

I know I don't need to lose a ton of weight or anything. I used to crash diet a lot in high school and looking back, crashing dieting was among my worst mistakes back then. You end up staying at a certain weight and thinking that you are healthy, but you really aren't. So crash dieting may help you lose a few pounds but the most important part of losing weight is being healthy and you'll never manage that through crash dieting.


I am in! Didn't make my may challenge goal, but I am here to lose a healthy and reasonable amount of weight this month! Very excited!!

Shawnna, it's great that you are ready to continue trying to lose weight. The key to life as they says is persistency. :)

Hi, Trish! :) That's great that our birthdays are very close to each other and I'm amazined that you want to do a 10k marathon. That's fantastic. I've always wanted to try a marathon myself, but unfortuantely my city is so small they never have events like those. But that's a great goal for you to have, so good luck with that.
