Jove and Skian: The Power Couple's Path to Perfection

Pooristo

Certainly not dehydrated. I have been drinking 1.5 to 2 gallons a day. i'm not retaining any of it, which is why the weight's dropping.

I really wish I could have done this a healthier way, because i'm looking and feeling.... flat.

Im sorry you're feeling bad :(

Yeah, dehydrated doesn't mean not getting enough water. It means not keeping enough water. :)

I'm fairly certain that, if i was dehydrated, my body would want to hold on the water... drinking excess water, or overhydrating allows your body to let go of extra water weight.

i.e: Alcohol dehydrates, you retain water; water hydrates, you lose water.

Meh, live and learn. It's a process. Sounds like you could use some lifestyle-type goals rather than performance goals perhaps?

Sure couldn't hurt... ahh, to walk a mile...

Osmosis, Ian. If the concentration gradient favors not-your-body, you will lose water no matter how much water you put in. But if you add electrolytes in equal or greater proportion to said water (once again speaking in terms of solute concentration), you will be able to retain more. You will still toss the extra, yes, but you will be holding on to a fair bit more. Prolonged depletion leads to misery and death. This is why you will often see animals in the wild licking salt off of roads, or rocks, or pretty much anywhere they can get it.

If you don't believe me... do you have a bodyfat scale? My hydration % went from 49 to 65 merely from making an effort to get 2g of sodium a day (which I personally feel is a bare minimum for someone who is exercising and drinking as much water as I am each day), as I was getting almost none previously. All other factors being equal. Now, I don't put a whole lot of stock in the thing, but I do put a lot of stock in how I feel - and that's fantastic. :)

That or go back and take gradeschool science. ;)

Not sure how this would demonstrate a level of hydration... just a percentange of body that ISN'T bone or muscle.

I think you're missing my point. Call it what you will, but I differentiate between hydration and retention (but I don't have any scientific background in this). My depleted sodium levels and INCREASED hydration is causing my body to DECREASE retention.

Which makes sense, because the sodium is causing your body to retain water, which is what I'm trying to avoid. So after talking in a circle, I believe we're in agreement, but what i refer to as "dropping water weight" by "overhydrating and depleting sodium", you refer to as "dehydration". Scientifically, you're probably right. Fundamentally, i'm not wrong... which is why we could have done without...

... this smart ass comment. :beerchug:

Oh yeah, Jove... while our thread was being jacked by Bill Nye:

Day 2 Challenge: 14 minutes, 14 seconds.

WHOOPED my ass...

To left we have Focus and to the right we have Skian.

Focus snaps a jab on Skian's chin, and wait- wait- what's this?
Skian recovers instantly and lands a blow! Oh..!, Focus is down for the count.
'Folks looks like a knock-out to me.

As in glute work? or back work?

either way, we're open to suggestions for our challenges... we have to make another challenge on Sunday!!

Sorry...I didn't see this.
I meant upper back work. Unless I'm missing something, you guys are primarily doing burpees, push ups, and rope jumping. Thought on throwing in chin ups or inverted rows?

Ian and Jove, are either of you going to a gym on a regular basis?

Oh, maybe we didn't make it clear... the challenges are sort of like "fit these into your routine" challenges.

I am getting to the gym (sometimes hotel gym, if you want to call it a gym) about 3 times a week, but I'm also ADDING in a 2.5 mile run, the burpee/rope challenge, etc.

Hehehe. :p

That's all I'm gonna say, despite your partner there doing her best to provoke me.

Aw, hell, I can't control myself. Blame her. Anyway: You have a nonstandard definition of dehydration! The standard is, "The loss of water and salts essential for normal bodily functioning." But that's "normal" in the biological sense, which means something like, "lacking observable abnormalities or deficiencies." Do you still maintain that you are not dehydrated!?

... My girlfriend says this ^ sort of behavior is why we can't have nice things.

My routine at the gym This week....

Monday: StairMaster 60 minutes at intervals.
Assisted Pullups and Dips, each 3 sets of 12

Tuesday: Ran 4 miles (40 minutes)

Wednesday: Burpee Challenge in 9:42...
Hit the StairMaster for 60 minutes at intervals.

Thursday: Ran 2.5 miles, powerwalked (uphill) 2 miles.

Today: So far Burpee-Challenge # 2 in 18:03...
(Tonight, PowerPliates with weights- which will involve squats, endurance push-ups, a crap-load-a-abs, ect) A 60 minutes class.

So...I going to stretch and go for a run...

My legs are sore is the worst part :(....Therefore....a stretch. I had a good dinner last night, I should be properly nutritioned....

So, okay!

Static stretching before activity = badness. Only warmup I would do for running is walking with good form. Recommend stretching and such after or on some other day.

Also, I like when you make up words bb. <3

Mmm...I struggled.

I set out on my run at about 5.8 miles per hour on the treadmill, no incline...set it for sixty minutes. First Ten...oh, felt so good...twenty, I was in a groove, thirty, started to struggle just a bit....and at forty minutes well...I started to loose my stride, and my muscles just felt like shutting down!
Usually it's my cardio that has the hardest time with running, not my muscles!
Afterwards instead of exhilaration, like usual, I was extremely nauseous.
I stopped at four miles, cooled down and moved to the weight machines.

Incline pull: 50-pound-resistance 3 Sets of 20.
Row Machines: 60-pound-resistance 3 Sets of 20.
Pull Down Machine: 60-pound-resistance 3 Sets of 12.

Got home, and had no appetite, wasn't thirsty, forced myself to drink water and ate half of a "Lean Cuisine."

I don't know what my deal is....

I don't know what my deal is....

Running too fast probably, bb? You're supposed to do these runs at a comfortable pace. 65-75% max heart rate, tops. You should be able to hold a conversation, easily. If you're like me and you run at a pace where it takes you 10 minutes to catch your breath when you stop, you are being dumb. :boxing_smiley:

Anyway, you did all that you were supposed to do, so what are you crying about. ;)

But esplain to me again why you are running before lifting?
