I'm just sayin', why aim for the lowest branch when you can aim for the stars instead. Maybe you don't quite make it, and have to try again, but you'll probably be doing so from somewhere higher than that lowest branch would have left you.

Which is not to say I think either of you is slacking, at all, that's just my obnoxiousness talking. Only attempting to make the point that I fully support Jove's going for it because I believe that the worst that can happen is she tries hard and "fails"; That that's not even a bad thing. :)

Not getting defensive, just clarifying... i know you don't mean any harm!

I would never try to convince Jove to NOT shoot for the 1/2 marathon, I was just clarifying that i would be VERY little help.

As for my sissyfied goals: with my travel schedule and practically FORCED lifestyle (big dinners, drinking, etc), i feel lucky to be where I am. So I'm trying to push past being content, quit using my situation as an excute, and get myself where i ACTUALLY want to be.
 
Skian I was reading my amazing "Complete Book of Running" and I realized that I have slacked in my *running goals because I haven't HAD a goal. You know? I can run five miles but now...what? So I looked online and saw that there will be a half-marathon on October 19th, here in my town.
Its 13.1 miles, and I only have untill then to train for it...but...my heart skipped a beat reading the registration letter.

If I am to do it; I have to sign up by August 31, to keep it more affordable.

So here I am, wondering if I should take this on....kinda nervous...
~Is someone going to talk me out of it?
~Anyone?

What do you think big-poppa?

You say you can run 5 miles right now. How many miles are you running per week right now? How long have you been running?

And yeah, I still feel pretty much the same way about advising anyone on running. But no worries, The Drexatron is here. And I'm sure ff and sparrow and g8r and the rest of what I like to call The Spartans will be along shortly.
 
Half-Marathon? Shmalf-Schmarathon! Jove you got that 1/2 like focus got downs.

I'm going to follow your thread and attempt some of your challenges, except the fiber one. I poop just fine already, thank you.

I have slacked off... I was running an easy fifteen miles a week. (That being five-miles 3x a week + cross training) I love cross-training!

But as of this week, I have run, 7.5 miles....(2.5miles x3 this week)

The marathon will serve as motivation to bump up my mileage, slowly and wisely...till game day.
:eek: I am really nervous about signing up...but if I do...I know I will run the whole 13.1....just to save face if nothing else...so it will push me.


And Skian, you already help motivate me ;)

I think this should be an achievable goal. You will want to look around and find a good running schedule to set you up for the half marathon. Here is an example of one, since the race is 9 weeks away you would want to start with week 4.

I agree that it's an acheivable goal. I'm going to need some help from the "Spartans" to provide challenges to help her reach it!
 
Just a heads up for Jove (and everyone who's following), I won't be training today.

The biggest problem is, I DID have a cookie cheat this afternoon and will be having a drink or two after work.

I'll make sure to step out to the gym over my lunch break tomorrow :)

Y'know, that half marathon training looks easier than I thought it would be (in terms of time commitment, I mean, I could prob fit it in on my off days). Maybe I do eet too.
 
hey hey... there will be no "pieces" being given OR taken in this thread! I will decide how pieces are distributed here!

... not sure what that even means :confused:
