JohnnySolo's House

Love the vids.

You are putting up 275 x 5 benching EASILY. I'm sure that with a spotter, you can push for 7-8 reps, no probelm. Additionally, the form looks really good.

As for the Squat, I agree with you but I cannot see what is going wrong.

Keep it up man.

nice vids. I don't know how you want to lift.. but from a powerlifting perspective, you have a lot to go on technique-wise. On the bench you could start using leg drive and more back arch, which would make your numbers go up a lot.. but it kind of depends what your goal is with the bench. IMO you should work on getting your squat deeper as right now you don't hit legal depth (powerlifting-wise). You're wicked strong though, and a lot of your weight is definitely muscle!

Thanks guys!

I think I'm good with my form for now, I know squats are not up to par with depth and I'm not a big fan of the power bench with leg drive.

I wasn’t going to mention this, because I just found out today. There is an MMA (mixed martial art)school just opening near my home and it is lower cost than any out of Boston. I’m getting all worked up about it. It’s like my last school (TaeKwondo) with a full schedule of classes, 24 classes available a week, of which 14 I’d be able to attend around my job. Not that I’d do 14, but I could fit in 4 or so classes a week. They train Muay Thai, Grappling, and MMA. They also have a great plan for families, so I could get the kids into it. It also has women’s kickboxing for my wife.

I’ll be checking the place out.

If I join I’m going to have to drop the heavy lifting and revamp my training at work to supplement the school. Right now I couldn’t fight my way out of a paper bag after the heavy weight session I’ve been doing. These classes would need me energized, not already spent.

I know this would be a great opportunity to slim down and refocus on my original goals to lose weight and get off the high blood pressure meds.

Can't see the f**king vids at work! Will check em out when i get home big J.

MMA ey, that's exactly what i'm looking in to. The gym has opened an MMA place next door, i went about 3 times before but it was far away. But now it's next door i just need some cash for another membership and i will also have to re-schedule lifting. If i get really into it, ill probably change my lifting to a FBW x3 weekly, and probably start including some oly style lifts. Definately will be good for cutting fat though Johnny.

WOW!!! you stood on the wall and did gravity defying squats!!! YOU ARE DA MAN!

haha

you do have a bit to much forward bend in your squat, and that is keepin you from the depth Karky was mentioning. You are hitting a bit of 'good morning' in there. Good for your body, but not technically sound.

I am very impressed with how big and strong you are! THOSE FLYS!! my gawd, i'd need a crane to get them off the dumbell rack!

You are the REAL DEAL!

p.s. I had my blackbelt in TKD. Even won a free sparring competition in June 07. keeeyah!
your build would be perfect for MMA- go train. We will encourage and cheer you on.

I agree. It feels like the only way to get down is to add the forward bend. My legs don’t like to bend?

I tried surfing once. I could pop up easily with the pushup but could never get my legs and feet under me because they don’t fit. When practicing the pop up on land I automatically have my feet wide and my hands on the inside. It has to be a flexibility issue, is it hamstrings? Lower back? Or both? Thoughts?

If I join the MMA school they should be able to toughen me up in areas I desperately need. Fat loss, endurance, flexibility, conditioning

You don't look 280 plus. You look more like 230! How tall are you !?

6'2"

yeah, I'm freaking heavy:confused4:but hold it pretty good. I mean I still look heavy, just not that heavy.

When I’m down at 260 I feel real good and can move around a lot better. 250-240 would be great, but it's a lot of work and even more control over my eating is needed.

At 260 for TKD I could do jumping axe kicks and spinning round house kicks. I wasn't the fastest guy but a 260 lb spinning round house is pretty awesome.

Also for stretching I could touch my toes and get down relatively low in a split but I’ve always, even in TKD, had a problem just squatting. I think it might be skeletal proportion issues???

WOOOOWEE jonny your getting even strongerrr man!
those deadlifts are very strong man! great work! i think its great that you got your rest down to 1 minute. and i know what you mean, feeling weak. but it isnt that bad.

you shoud cut man! i know what you mean about being able to move around and such. here i am at 170 and i thought that was too big because i want to be able to do great gynastics, so im going down to 155 or 160 tops. but like you said, being able to do jumping axe kicks and ROUNDHOUSES is awesome! i PERSONALLY LOVE KICKING! dude, please teach me how to roundhouse?! il get some vids up to see if im doing it right if you teach me!
im really interested in being able to jump, flip, kick, and maneuver epicly...you name it: handstands, kicks, flips, handsprings, gainers, twists..i want to do it! plus im cutting to be able to get big air in the jump and be more agile. im sure thats why you are doing it too! lets get lean man!
we'l call it project lean lol!
we just gotta keep our mindset strong and know that its worth it!

besides, your ratios will go up. for example, you'r no benching your body weight now for reps. you'r doing 275 for reps correct? however, if you go down to 260 or 250, you will be benching over your body weight for reps!
thats a much better and more impressive weight to strength ratio. even if your bench goes down a bit, your body weight will be going down even more!

you can do it man, its all about the diet. just eat less and track your calories through the day man, thats what i do!

either way, good work. nice clean too. 225 is great : ]

Hey, thanks for writing all that!!!

You are right, I need to cut, always have. I think with this crew I may finally be able to do it with continued support!! There are actually quite a few of us going on a cut it seems!!!

As for the ratio, yep I’ve always been a weak big guy, lol. I do believe that was my first 225 clean :D. I worked on my plan for the coming weeks I’m going to be doing an A,B routine 3 times a week (like I have been) but I’m adding the barbell complexes as my warm up and I’m adding in cardio.

Lifting will be M,W,F (Wednesday there will be no running so I’ll go heavy and take long rests.)

Running M,T,TH, Fr (I’ll shoot for 4, if life gets in the way, I’m good with 3)

A:
BB complex
Squat 3x5 (or 10)
Bench 5x5
Row 5x5
Push-up/reverse crunch (superset)
Walk/run

B:
BB complex
OH press 5x5
Deads 5x5
Pull-ups or chin-ups
Plank 1.5 min
Walk/run

And C I’ll add every 3rd Friday in place of A or B.

C:
BB complex
Clean and press
135x5
185x2
PRx1
Power cleans
185x5+
165x10
145x10
Deads
PR 1x5
Walk/run

Oh, yeah you should like parkour then. Free running, really cool stuff. That and gymnastics are really great you could do that stuff with practice easily.

For your kicks, like punches, you need to use your body, get your hips into it.

Get your weight up man ;)
