Inimitable

I don’t really feel like posting my training today, I tried a new PB on the clean and press and failed (twice). Very annoyed and don't feel like publishing my failings.

The cleaning side is no problem at all now, my technique is pretty good now so it’s just the pressing movement that’s letting me down.
I think in order to get over that I’m going to move away from clean and pressing for a month or two and work on over head power by doing seated SM OH presses for the high weight stuff. Once I can press with about 220 with those then I’ll move back to clean and presses.
To keep my shoulders in good condition for the explosive pick-up I’ll increase the DB snatching

oh come on we all fail miserably at times. Good idea on keeping the shoulders in good shape. I think that is the weakest link for most of us.

Trial and error, trial and error....You have to start at some point to get further. So you didn't make it *this* time.....keep trying to achieve your goals....

You'll get there!!!!:violent:

LOL!!!! a clean leaf? I just got a chipper shredder....Should I say where you can stick that leaf???? :cheeky:

LMAO!!!!!!! :violent:

you mean a chipper like in Fargo? For reals you have one? I also saw a Malcolm in the middle and they play with one of those!! I want a chipper!

Haven’t posted in a while, still lifting though, being a bit careful as I’ve had the first signs of a shoulder impingement. It’s ibroprofen and ice for a few days and I’ll see how it is next week. It might not be an impingement though, they might just be a little overworked but I’m gonna play it safe for now

Yesterday I started doing my SM seated OH presses and 198lbs wasn’t much of a problem (before I got the slight pain). I followed that up with the DB power snatches for my shoulders at 99lbs

Today I did some low rep Deads, my deadlifting has suffered a little over the last couple of years. I went from 132lbs up to 352lbs today with what I think is a little in the tank as I wasn’t at full effort and I must have already made at least 10 lifts leading up to the 352. I’m starting to think a 400lb deadlift should be within reach again very soon and then it’ll be 450

Overall the volume of training I’m doing has gone down a lot, I’m focusing more on hitting a lot more reps near my 1RM’s which means the overall number of reps I’m performing must be about a third of what I was doing.
Having said that though, the gains are being made at their fastest rate for a couple of years. I really feel like I went down the wrong path with the ‘medium rep range’ training. I respond to low reps, high sets so that’s probably what I should stick to

at the press point, use your legs a lil, keep your knees bent a touch, breath in slowly and then blow the bar up. You can do this! Do the overall lift in stages, and keep the oxygen flowing.

I'm trying to do it more as a military press than push press but I might try the push press a few times to get the muscles used to pushing that weight

Cheers

there is a lil middle ground between push press, and military press. If you just keep the knees soft you will have better balance. If your legs are locked out, and you feet are lined up, you are like a statue. The brain is using focus to balance, verses press that weight.

SO- break your knees a bit, maybe even offset your feet a half a foot, to give you some stability.

Also- do you get to drop the bar, or do you have to lower it back down down?

out of curioisyt, to you stomp your feet when you throw a snatch up?

That's interesting and makes good sense, cheers, I'll try that next time I clean and press

Have to lower it back down I'm afraid, I'll love to chuck it down though, I could pretend I was at the Olympics or something :D

Not intentionally but I do leave the ground quite frequently, mainly on th elater reps when I'm really having to push hard through the legs to get the speed up

Cheers buddy, my shoulders are getting pretty strong but I do think they've over taken other areas like tri's though so need to get more balance back

Yeah, I am genetically gifted with strong tris…. Anything that works my tris I tend to be better at than anything else when it comes to lifting. Though this has gotten better my chest used to be small and most of my bench came from my tris. Like you I’m a bit unbalanced in areas.

and I believe your clean and press weights would be higher, if you didnt have to lower it back down. The subconcious aint stupid. It realizes, whether we want to admit it or not, that it has to control setting that big ol bar of weight back down. AND it is hell on the traps.

we disussed this once in another thread some time back

imagine if this dude had to lower this weight back down

p.s. notice his knee work in this lift too. and the nice deep breath he takes to blow the bar up

i'm so smaht!

Not bad thanks, forgot to take ibroprofen this morning though

How was the holiday? And have you booked your trip to the clinic yet to get swabbed?

Hol was the best time in my life to be honest lol, i've put my rough events down in my journal.

Think im just gonna risk it and not bother with the clinic, so far no symptons anyway!

I now have a knee injury!!!

I was trying to steal a few extra minutes in bed on Sunday morning after my little boy had me up at 6am when my 5y/o girl came running in to wake me up, she jumped up and dive bombed directly on my knee cap. It now hurts to bend my knee and if I stay seated for long it starts to freeze and moving it becomes difficult.
How do you even start to treat something like that? I have no idea what the problem actually is. Squatting is out of the question for the time being

Sh1t that's unlucky mate, i suppose rest is the only way forward!
