With a BB you sort of bring your body through under the bar, even if you don't use leg drive. With DB you're seated and the db's give a different ROM. I feel like the delts and tris are in a more leverage advantageous position when BB OHP than DB.

I do DB OH presses from standing too :)

those are pretty heavy single arm pulls. Do you have a chest resting spot, or are you just sitting up in the cable row machine?

I do them from standing so there's no place for my chest to rest. I try and reduce the amount of movement in my chest as much as possible but it will move a bit.

I pull the cable from directly in front of my waist as the high is adjustable

Yeah, I have to lean back a lot to act as a counter balance and my feet press hard against the inside of my shoe as it tries to pull me forward :)

I'm having to do these more as the new layout of my gym leaves little room to do things like bent over rows

Deadlifting day today, weight was good, got 398lbs right up but my grip started to really fail just before I managed to lock out so not officially a full rep, not at competition standard anyway.

Still, the actual lifting the thing was so much easier than last week, I think I pregress best when I keep total working reps down to about 10 or under

After consulting my good friends (well I say good but y'know, kinda being polite ;)) Karky & FF I'm going to make a few adaptations to my pulling work.

FF sugested using a towel to grip onto rather than the bar on things like pullups so I'll do that on most of the lighter weight pulls, like pull ups and cable rows for a while and see how it works for me.

I've wrapped a towel around things before and gripped that, but what he suggested was putting the towel over the bar/handle so all I'm gripping is the towel and the towle is gripping the bar.

For the heavy pulls though, basically just my DL's, I'm going to use a hook grip. So with this the fingers wrap round the bar and over the thumb rather than the thumb going over the fingers which most people do instinctively.

I won't get to use the hook grip for another week or so (won't be around much next week) but I'll start using the towel today.

I was going to suggest the hook grip to Tekton too. He should be reading your work here so I won’t bother. I’ll try it myself when the grip gets worse than I’m using now.

We have ropes for the cables at my gym. Can do cable rows, triceps and everything with it. Same thing I think, I should start using them too.

We have ropes for cables too but I've just used a towel for some DB holds and I think they may be a little more challenging than the rope as a towel isn't as think and dense so you need to grip a little harder. Same idea though I guess

Anyway, did an upper pressing session. The gym was heaving so no space whatsoever to do anything with free weights for the first 10-15 minutes so did horizontal pressing on a machine

Single hand DB grip hold using towel*
3x as long as possible @ 99lbs

I wrapped the towel round the DB handle and tied a slip knot to keep hold of the DB and then gripped the loose ends of the towel. The towel I’m using is the free one they gave me when I signed up which is like a small hand towel and mainly used for wiping down seats

as for the ropes, they are good as long as you don't end up at the end and use that rubber cap gor gripping.

the towel is a no save situation, you gotta hang-the-hell on.

Yeah, my hands are still slightly twitchy.
Grip is a funny thing, before the 3rd set I didn't think I'd be able to grip anything, not even a cup of water, but once I had the grip I managed to keep it for a good 20-30 seconds. It's a lot more mental than physical, a little like press up holds, you're capable of a lot more than you think you are if you just tell your brain to shut the **** up

No, but from what I can make out from the PM that AllCdnBoy sent to Chillen which Chillen then posted on a public forum, he's going to be allowed back and the mods are to treat him as a new member.

Funny how Chillen said I couldn't be trusted for forwarding a PM to someone but Chillen gets a private and sensitive PM and posts it on a public forum which he's spent the whole week online here as left4dead directing people towards

Maybe anyone who couldn't see why I dislike the guy so much will be able to see from this two faced action what the guy is really like. I mean, spending all day everyday over here for a whole week doing nothing but viewing who's online and getting people to join his new forum?!?

It is a rubbish forum though, which is probably why he spent so much effort getting himself back here. Can't blame him for that.

At least he saw that nobody cared when he left, the next day it was like he never even existed

Why AllCdnBoy would allow someone back who publicly abused him on the WLF and then posted up a PM he sent Chillen on another forum as well as trying to divert people away from this place is beond me

Like I say though, any last doubts people might have had that Chillen was actually a nice guy should now be gone and people will be able to see that he is nasty and persistant, a bit like syphilis
