Inimitable

wow you are strong man. good stuff; il be watching

Got very drunk last night, we had celebration drinks at work for me getting married. I'm just trying to recover fluids etc before lifting at lunch time

I read this the other day and thought it was interesting, maybe the image of fat people being stupid isn't so unfair after all :)

I already have VIP entry

A very weird session just now, I had a very mild hangover so wasn’t expecting much and suspected I might still be a bit dehydrated so thought I would go for a more medium intensity session.

Anyway, started of with a clean and press at 132 to warm up, more to get used to the blood rush to my head rather than warming the muscles. I found it pretty difficult so imagined I must be feeling the effects of the lager so went to add another 10kg to take it to 154 as I thought that was safe.
I made the lift but then almost collapsed! I was staggering around trying to stand still but I couldn’t, in the end I had to prop myself up against a wall until I could see and hear properly again.

I made the lift again but wasn’t unable to get in the second rep so was very pissed off with my poor performance. But then it hit me; in my hungover state I’d gone and added 2x10kg plates instead of 2x5kg so I was actually lifting 176lbs instead of 154! A new PB and with a hangover as well!

So it went like this

Clean and press
1x132
2x1@176
2x3@154
6x132
2x132

Chest press
3x10

Lateral raises
3x12

Tricep pulldowns
3x8

Facepulls
3x15

So very pleased, I’d love to get to about October with a 200lb clean and press

Nice with the Clean & Press. I think i'm just going to stick at the good old push press for now, but i may go back to cleaning it sometime ;)

I'm going to stick to my 5x5 for now but I might go for a 200lb clean and press in October. I know I got a 185lb up a few weeks ago but failed (big time) on a 225.

So you best stay motivated on that goal. I’d sure hate to pull the clean and press off and be wondering how you got on with it.

Bit of motivation?

question- are you guys then droping these, after the press, or are you lowering them down?

i think the amount we can do is alot higher, if ou rmiond knows the traps don't have to support it on the way down.

sometimes they scream!!!

Well more OH pressing today, lifted again at 176 but made an attempt at 182 but failed. The clean was no problem but the press just wasn't going to go up.

Really annoyed as I'm sure I had it in the tank but I think I wasn't mentally right, I was unsure I'd be able to do it and I think that worked against me

Finished off by doing 2x8@132 + 4x132, aiming to be able to do a 180+ OH press and 3x8@ 132 within a few weeks

hey T-dog- on that OH press, do you squeeze your abs, or let them go and engage your lower back. These are a lil wobbly for me. what is your "mindset" concerning your core?

My mindset? Oh dear, to be honest it always falls into the 'I must remember to make time to do...' category and ends up getting missed out. From now on, I really must remember to do more core training :)

On the pressing, I don't squeeze the abs at all, it seems to mainly be lower back which just seems to happen naturally to me. Do you think I should be squeezing the abs?

lol-- i was asking you. When i get heavy on this lift, like 185 ish, it is like my belly wants go out, and my lower back is hangin on. But if I squeeze my core, then if feel a fall forward feeling.

i probably just need to more of them for awhile.

and these my friend are a core exercise, totally. It's not how much you can press, nor is it how much you can squat. IT IS HOW MUCH YOU CAN KEEP STABLE WHILE YOU SQUAT WITH A PRESS IN PLACE.

OH squat seems to be all core.
that's my .02

i'm gunna throw up a thread.

Proper squatting today as I walked the extra bit to the small gym with the squat rack.

Squats
5x220
5x308
5x396
3x12@ 308

I didn’t get nearly as heavy as I would have liked as I was getting a pain in my left quad from the very first lift so I dropped the weight and got a bit of volume in instead

Seated leg curls
5x200
5x231
5x246
2x5@ 262 (actually added a few extra reps at the end because I could)

I know I’ll get stick for the machine work, bad for the knees etc, but I’ve found these to be a good way of building up my weak right hamstring. Not so long ago I was only capable of moving about 150lbs on the leg curl so this has come along a lot

Leg extensions (even worse than leg curls, I know :D)
12x246
2x12@ 262

OH squats
Not counting reps, focusing more on depth, no weight used

I dropped a little weight over the last 7 days, down from 212 to 210 so needing to be harder on myself with regards to maximizing meal times and adding snacks in

Nice squatting, i can't believe thats nowhere near your max effort either!

WD on the 1k rep POWER :D
