if at first you don't succeed...

I just realized i passed the one-month milestone two days ago on the 16th.

I made it over to the pool today tho i didn't swim out of concern for a recent neck injury. Still, i enjoyed the weightlessness and went thru the motions of going to the pool which are actually pretty simple. Only i forgot my keys to the pool house and had to come back for them. Note to self.

I blew it with these samosas i got at the little store here in my building this afternoon. First, i intended to only get one because i've never tried these kind before. But when i saw them arrayed out i snapped and got three. Then i was going to eat one for snack and keep two for dinner. Then i snapped again and ate all three. They were okay. Not the best i've ever had.

I wish food wasn't so darn important to me. I guess i was desperate for some variety in my diet and jonesing for a food experience that would satisfy. I don't think healthy people place such importance on food. I've heard the saying that 'what you resist, persists.' So true.

At a conservative estimate, each samosa was about 250 calories so i will call that dinner and be done with it.

I swilled water today trying to cope with my morning hunger. It's been a bad day all-around.

brekky: same as yesterday

lunch: noodles with tomato sauce and beef, savory mixed veggies with olive oil

snack/dinner: samosas

misc: 2L water, 2 pops

total: 1415

Hugs,

Jane.

Not that bad Jane. It could have been much, much, worse. At that stage many would have gone "*^#@ it" & eaten "all of the things", but you didn't. Tomorrow is a fresh day.

I've never had samosas, but they look delicious every time I come across them. I don't think you should beat yourself up so much about them. You went into it with good intentions, and while maybe you didn't necessarily succeed, it's a good learning moment. Furthermore, the rest of your day went well, and one slip up won't derail your entire progress. I know it's difficult, but try not to focus so much on the negatives and look more towards the positives.

5 weeks!

Thanks for the support Cate, Unstoppable and LaMa. I focused on the positives today and they are there -- i guess i just got wound up. I ended up eating crushed tomatoes and popcorn yesterday evening so i finished the day at about 2000. I guess it wasn't realistic to skip dinner. I vowed that i would modulate my hunger better today and despite have three heavier meals i still had room to spare in my calorie limit of 1750. Today was much easier tho -- some hunger but tolerable, not desperate. Very tired today. I wake up at dawn in the Spring and noon the rest of the year so i'm still adjusting. I had an easy, quiet day with lots of nice rest and relaxation. Weigh-in tomorrow. Eee!

brekky: same but with a second waffle

lunch: cheese ravioli, savory butternut squash and brussel sprouts with olive oil, protein drink

dinner: quiche, savory mixed veggies with olive oil, wild rice

misc: 1L water, 2 pops

total: 1546

Hugs,

Jane.

5 weeks + 1 day

My weigh-in was disappointing. I gained 1.2 pounds. I'm really at the mercy of my cycle this diet. But i'm averaging 0.5 pounds a week which is my goal so i'm still on track -- it's just not coming off steadily. At this rate i'll lose 25 pounds a year. I'll try eating five small meals a day starting tomorrow. I know a guy who had great success doing that. I got over to the pool again today and had a great time. I had it all to myself as per usual. LaMa: My wonky sleep schedule is due to my constitution.

brekky: same as yesterday

lunch: quiche, savory mixed veggies with olive oil

snack: protein drink

dinner: noodles with tomato sauce and beef, savory butternut squash with olive oil

misc: herbal tea, 1L water, 2 pops

total: 1338

Hugs,

Jane.

I saw my neighbor with a bag of chips from the little store in our building and the power of suggestion won out so my new total for the day is 1548.

Everyone has to find their own method. I do best on three meals a day with no snacks but that´s mainly because I´m too lazy to plan 5 proper meals so I end up eating crap.

PS: bodies are weird.

5 weeks + 2 days

I finally got grocery shopping today and i bought at least four new entrees to cheer up my diet. I tried one already: clam chowder. It was very good! My dog was very interested in the aroma! The new foods will add some much-needed variety to my diet and will increase my satisfaction and decrease my frustration. The change to eating five small meals did not go smoothly tho with a weak stomach mid-day. I'll give it a few more days tho. I also note that i have been eating chips recently so in a harm-reduction move i bought a pack of 160 cal serving bags. I loves my snack!

1: 2 waffles with butter, Clementine

2: protein drink, savory mixed veggies with olive oil

3: cheese ravioli

4: saltines, raspberries

5: clam chowder

snack: chips

misc: herbal tea, flavored water, 0.5L water, 2 pops

total: 1450

Hugs,

Jane.

5 weeks + 3 days

I'm not gonna eat in five small meals. It's too inconvenient. I felt excited when i was able to last til noon for lunch, the first time this diet that i've been able to, but then i ended up eating dinner early so there was no conclusive improvement in my hunger. I caught sight of myself in a large mall mirror today and i am huge. Well, i didn't get this way overnight. It took years to put the weight on and it'll take years to take if off. LaMa: the new salad mix i bought has endive in it and i thought of you. It also has radicchio -- so who's eating exotic food now?! Tasty!

brekky: raspberries, yogurt, waffle with butter, protein drink

lunch: clam chowder, savory salad with olive oil, protein drink

dinner: 2 tacos

snack: chips

misc: 0.5L water, 3 pops, herbal tea

total: 1316

Hugs,

Jane.

What your reflexion looks like always depends on mood a bit - and on how far away you are from the mirror.
:D on the exotic food :D In mixes it's usually winter endive though; the stuff they grow in darkness to keep it white and not related to normal endive as far as I know. I didn't like either as a kid because they taste bitter but these days most of the bitterness has been bred out.

I had two of the entrees i bought on spec. The Pakoras were a disappointment as are so many frozen foods. There was a faint taste of curry but that was about it. The canned chili was better. I'll get it again. I got hungry in the afternoon and i gave in and had snacks and i'm glad i did -- i felt so much better after. I made it over to the pool again and did six lengths this time. It wasn't as fun this time tho. The pool closes for renos in May so then i will try the exercise bike. I'm hoping i like it because swimming is kind of a hassle.

brekky: blueberries, yogurt, waffle with butter, protein drink

lunch: Pakoras, savory salad with olive oil, protein drink

snack: savory crushed tomatoes, saltines

dinner: chili, savory salad with olive oil

snack: chips

misc: herbal tea, 0.5L water, 3 pops

total: 1519

Hugs,

Jane.

I blew it and had a big bowl of buttered popcorn. I'm tired of dieting with fuck-all to show for it! I'm tired of resisting food all the live-long day!

Sounds like you need more - and more satisfying - food to keep it interesting. Don´t you cook at all? Home-cooked food is usually easier to bulk up and adjust to your own taste.
