Good luck, Nate...with whatever you choose. Just know that the first week or so it will be difficult and you need to push through it to get the results you want in the end.

i got results all ready, 4 pounds and i started monday. i know its just two days and water weight but i dont mind not eating carbs as there are many tasty choices. what are some low carbs fruits and veggies?

nate

Wow Nate, that's great.

Most veggies are low carb - you want to stay away from potatoes, peas, etc. Some low carb diets say no to carrots, but they aren't too bad.

You might want to look into the South Beach Diet, it's a low carb diet for two weeks, then you start adding back in complex carbs - fruits, whole wheat, etc. So it's more like a carb monitoring diet.

As far as fruits, all fruits have carbs, but they aren't bad for you. You can see the carb counts in foods at places like

Good luck!

with my dad they gave him a set amount of carbs to eat a day from his doctor. i was asking how many i should be shooting for a day.

nate

See that's why you should talk to a nutritionist, especially since you are 16.

I can only give you estimates, and what works for one person might not work for another.

My husband is diabetic. His goal for carbs is no more than 273 grams of carbs per day. That's a max of 84 per meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner.) He also balances his meals with 3 ounces of protein per meal (equivalent to a piece of meat the size of the palm of your hand.) Then one snack balanced with a carb (equal to 21 grams) and a protein (equal to 1 ounce of meat.) He also eats a wide variety of veggies - mostly salad, broccoli, etc. (anything green, except for peas because peas have sugar and are considered a carb, however if he wants peas then he just balances it into his meals.)

It's a very healthy way of eating. We also focus in whole wheat and whole grain carbs as well as fruits in for his carbs. So that he is getting maximum nutrition.

It doesn't mean he can't have a piece of cake - he just has to weigh his options. Does he want a 2" square piece of cake w/ frosting (that equals 48 carb grams btw.) Or would he rather have a piece of fruit and a small potato? It's all about balancing things.

I think it is in your favor either to follow your dad's footsteps and just see where you can tweak it for a teenager. Or talk to a dietician.

I'm sure you've posted it, but how much weight do you have to lose? And are you physically active?

to be normal i have to loose a total of 35 pounds but i have loset 5 already and when im not working or doing school stuff im talking long walks with my dog that are about 2 miles or so. but yes im activ but i could be more.

nate

You'd probably benefit to a well balanced meal plan. 2 miles a day is great! Just make sure to keep up the pace. You can do it!

I'm going to post some links for you since you are a teen and need weight loss advice. :)

Here are some links in reference to eating low carb and being a teen:

HTH, Good Luck!

this is stupid.............i gained weight and i only eat like 80 carbs or less
im really pissed off, i worked hard and a week and a half later i gained like 2-4 pounds.

maybe the carb thing isnt working for me. you gave me a link about you eat fay you gain fat so maybe ill try that or give me some ideas.

thanks,
nate

It's really all about calories in and calories out. I just try to focus on the good calories (like fruit, veggies, whole grains, lean meats, etc.)

If you are weighing yourself everyday, you will see ups and downs, so don't get down about it. Also, it might just be salt intake? Are you drinking your water? It's really good to try to get in at least 64oz of water per day, more if you can, but not so much you feel uncomfortable.

Keep exercising, and don't get down.

There are other guys on here that have done some awesome jobs - young ones too. Maybe you can check out their diaries for some inspiration?

Take care~

Ok. I have a question .. for some odd reason I can not eat fruit. The texture of it just gets to me. haha, I know sounds weird.

I tried eating an apple last week and couldn't handle the juice and texture of it .. same with watermelon, then tried raisins .. can't do that either, then I tried dried fruit (the only thing I could find that had no added sugar was apples) .. and they're sour tasting. Now, how important are fruits in a deit? I can drink pure fruit juice mixed with water .. but I can't do the fruit itself =(. I don't like cheeries, and don't really like berries.

I do eat a lot of veggies though. Just about everyday I eat spinich, love greenbeans, peas, corn (every now and then .. I know it's not the best thing for you), broccoli, carrots, etc. all steamed.

One more thing .. I feel like I eat too many carbs. I try not to go over 80 .. but my carbs are from 100% wheat bread, peanuts, peanut butter, and grahm crackers (for a snack) .. is that ok? =/

Wow, it's rare you find someone who doesn't like fruit. You can get the nutrients elsewhere, certainly. It's good that you eat a lot of veggies! How many servings of veggies do you eat per day?

And carbs don't make you fat. Too many calories do. 80 grams of carbs per day is certainly NOT too much.

I probably have about 300-500 on most days.

i should drink more water
i probably only drink 3 bottles a day
but ill stick with it then and let you guys know how its going

haha =) It's not really the fruit itself .. more of the texture and the juice I guess. *shrugs* I am weird, and a very picky eater. I know I don't eat as many veggies as I should a day .. but I could eat them all day. I eat 4 cups of spinach and carrots just about everyday .. and have some kind of veggie for supper. I also am good about drinking water. I love water. I might have a coke every other month .. never go below 64oz.

I do take a vitamin everyday, and hope that will cover what fruit I don't eat.

Nate - You are getting a good start at your age. I will be 20 in 2 months and wish I started at 16. Best advice I have ever heard was make smart choices about your foods. My sister always tells me it's more about how much you eat, and not so much about what you eat (not meaning go ahead and eat a bunch of junk, just don't eat a lot of it!). If you know you are going to cheat one day (say eat a cookie, or go out to eat) cut back on the other things you are going to eat throughout the day .. at least that's how I do it.

yea i know, im not going to be cutting carbs im just going to eat better.
i actually lost 5 pounds somehow in like 2 days. thats weird. i also had a good walk/jog to walk yesterday where that was 4 miles and a total of 8.2 miles on the day.

nate

How's it going?
