Honestly, do you feel good after your exercise?

I've done many sessions of cardio exercises on stationary bike, treadmill, elliptical, etc. I read about how exercise helps to stimulate the production of endophins and how people feel good about doing exercise.

To me, I've never felt that bliss.. I mean other than the feeling of discipline and accomplishment of having done them, I don't really felt that good. Like some info I read that some people are addicted to exercise coz of the feeling that it gave them. Or I might be doing something wrong... Not in exercise sense of course, I sweated and got the heartrate up.

So it makes me really wonder, do you feel that wonderful feeling I mean the endophins related stuff, after your exercise?

For me it depends...usually I either feel tired/somewhat headachy (probably b/c I'm dehydrated) or I feel normal with a SLIGHT increase in energy. However, I have felt that WONDERFUL feeling a few times. I remember I felt it once after taking Tae-Bo...I felt I could kick booty all day long! :jump: And another time after I ran I just felt...awesome. But I hate running, and it's only happened once. I wish it happened more often!! So it is possible to feel great after a workout. Here are some questions for you: are you drinking enough water? what level of activity are you putting in when you exercise? Did you get enough sleep the night before? I think all those things factor in, and if you can get lucky enough to have all the pieces fit you might experience the feeling sometime. And the feeling, even though I've only had it like twice was well worth it! I felt like I was on top of the world! But even if you never experience it, try not to let it discourage you. It doesn't mean you're not working as hard as others, some people are just lucky I guess. :) Keep up the great work!

Simply, yes. I used to feel quiet good once I hit the changing rooms after the fullbody cardio/weight sessions. And the sense of accomplishment when you're so out of shape and overweight to have done that is great :) It's bugging me I've not got that motivation when I'm there now :( Oh well, a week off for my exams should clear that up ;)

when i come in from one of my 10 or 15 mile walks -there's a vague sense of accomplisment when I look at my pedometer and see how far i did walk - but that fades after about 2 seconds when i realize it's no where near the speed i want it to be or think it should be.

Exercise doesn't make me feel good -it tends to make me feel frustrated more than anything else that I'm not doing enough or not doing what I should be doing... I'm too stubborn to quit but... I don't get that good feeling...

I'll tell ya when i do cardio.....I feel ok, like you..... mostly about the fact that i did it!!!
but when i weight lift.......i feel totally pumped and engized......like no other!!!
I ain't talking body builder stuff...just basic weight bearing, lifting stuff!!!
well thats my 2 cents!!!

For the first three months, I didn't feel that great after working out. Just tired mostly. But then I started tracking more of what I did at the gym, and I liked it more. Now I mostly enjoy my workouts, during and after. Six months ago, I never would have believed that I would, but it's happened.

Personally even if I feel like poop on a stick all day long, when I work out, halfway through I feel like the heavens have aligned and all is right with the world. The only thing I don't like is stopping... there's about a 5 minute period right after stopping that I feel kind of funny but after that I'm fine. I feel tons worse if I DON'T exercise.

Wow... Thanks so much everyone for sharing your thoughts. Yeah I felt a bit left out as in, what's all the talk about feeling good and why I'm not experiencing that. Got loss among those thoughts and forget that not exercising is really making me not feeling good at all. :jump:

I guess that's the idea to keep in mind.... whatever it is exercise is good for the body :D

Thanks again for the support.

When I first started working out I always felt not so great. After a while I got use to the exercise I was doing, and then I started to really want to workout. Most of the time I don't feel SUPER GREAT. Most of the time I'm tired, but I'm happy that I got the workout done. There are sometimes when I do feel pretty good. It's a come and go thing.

I'm like a lot of the others. I don't feel that great after a carrdio. I absolutely hate it! But when I lift weights WOW I feel great. Especially after a few weeks when I start seeing the results of my work. There is nothing like it!!

I usually feel pretty good after finishing a moderate to hard workout. It's a bit of both I think, because I'm always proud when I run more than a mile without stopping, or something to that effect.

I feel really great after I exercise. Many times I might even feel too tired or lazy before I do it. But once I motivate myself to finish, I feel better than ever.

To get the endorphin high I need to do a long run (over 40 minutes, about 9-10 km/h) or a fast run (up to 20 minutes at 12-13km/h, no more than 4 km). Other forms of exercise I've tried don't cause that particular phenomenon in me. Other types of exercise do leave me feeling good about accomplishment etc. I can't remember feeling bad after exercising, apart from muscle pains sometimes.

After my 45 minute stint on my treadmill, I feel drained, sweaty, and good all at the same time. I have depression and it actually helps lift my depression away. It also makes me feel like I have a sense of accomplishment after I complete a workout and stick to it. :)

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. If I do a short workout, then I tend to find it's a no as I feel I haven't really, but after a longer workout there is a greater sense of achievement, though that was more apparent at the beginning of my weight loss (1-2 weeks ago) compared to now.

Next weigh in tomorrow though, hopefully that will provide results and raise spirits. :)

I'm in the sometimes category, too. When I used to do kickboxing classes, then I always felt great afterward. When I move out of this apartment, I am so getting a heavybag! But doing anything else... not so much. Occasionally I'll feel great after weight training, and sometimes even cardio, but when I feel best is with a combination of the two. But it's hard to run on the elliptical for 4 min then do two min of weights. Gyms are not set up to do that easily and getting to a gym for me... that in itself is about all I can muster! My elliptical at home has died, but I used to do that at home and felt great afterward.

I'm one of the lucky ones then - I get that feeling of well being. I get it after almost any type of workout, but especially after running, cycling, or long distance walking outside in the countryside. I am becoming almost religious about getting fresh air, skylight, and seeing fresh greenery ;) Cardio workouts make me feel happier than weight training workouts. Since I sorted out my nutrition and started exercising, I have become less depressed, happier, more able to handle stress, and I drink less of the grog.

I do actually like the way I feel immediately following a work out. It's a sense of accomplishment for me I think. It doesn't last very long for me though.

I usually feel really good after I exercise. I have to work out at a high intensity to get that endorphin rush but when I do....ohhhh yeahhhhh It's awesome. Maybe you need to kick it up a notch.

I'm heading for my treadmill right now.

Endorphins are nature's way of helping your body keep going in life-or-death situations where you would otherwise opt to collapse in a heap. Clearly you're not going to get that if you're pussyfooting around. You have to go for it a bit, push yourself near the limit.
