Greek Island Countdown

LOL. thanks. they are so cute. i hope they stick to it. last night we went there for dinner and i weighed out portions of steak for them, so they didn't have more than 3 oz...and then forced my dad to eat lots of broccoli

Push the greens hard. If they don't like it, they will learn to like it. 3 oz of steak doesn't look like alot, but it is by the time you add your side-dishes.

just another manic monday, oh oh...

yesterday was an AWESOME eating/exercise day. i stuck to my plan (see above) almost perfectly. switched sour cream for salsa to save a bunch of calories, but ended up having a beer (120) and snacking a bit on peanuts (maybe 200 cals?), but it's ok, because i ran 11 miles! took me 99 minutes, so i averaged 9 minute miles. that's 1000 calories burned!!!

the exercise plan for this week:
Mon - run 7 miles
Tues - 30 min cardio + some kind of leg workout (need to do research, any
suggestions?)
Wed - run 7 miles
Thurs - 30 min cardio + some kind of arm workout
Fri - run 7 miles
Sat - Tues: rest, enjoy July 4th weekend...MAINTAIN weight

this morning i was REALLY hungry and ate 3 bowls of cereal and had a granola bar on the way to work. WAY too many carbs, i know...that was 530 calories already!!!

but lunch will be:
lentil soup (260)
light yogurt (110)
carrots (40)
pear (70)

dinner will be this really yummy salad:
mixed greens (0)
1 tbsp gorgonzola cheese (50)
1/2 pear (35)
1 tbsp walnuts (90)
1/2 tbsp olive oil (60)
balsamic vinegar (0)

total consumed for the day :1225
burned during exercise: 650
total burned for the day : 1025!!

Sounds like a plan man. Don't worry about your calories for breakfast. I'm already at 570. My breakfast didn't turn out like I planned either.:( Oh well, there's always the rest of the day to turn it around.

thanks she4, i try not to get discouraged when that happens. if you are going to pig out a bit, it's probably actually better to do it in the morning since you have the rest of the day to burn it off, whereas at night it would all just turn to fat while you sleep...plus you still have the opportunity to cut back later in the day to make up for it! hence salad for dinner ;)

Very true awakening. I like looking at it that way.

Sadie, I thought about going on Atkins, but I've heard that you gain the weight back once you get off of it, but you always ditch the weight fast.

slimsadie- do you plan on avoiding carbs forever? do you miss them? i've never tried atkins, but i don't think it's a good fit for me. i was never much of a meat eater, so the thought of getting to eat as much meat as i want is not a nice thought. i pretty much live for carbs...sadly enough! maybe that would be good for me though, since i wouldn't want to eat very much! oh but i'd miss fruit so much!!!

Too each their own when it comes to diets. If I had one to pick, I might to the South Beach Diet. My aunt sent me an email saying what diet she was doing and it's a version of south beach, but I don't think it's the true south beach. If you would like to look at it awakenings, I don't mind emailing it to you. The whole family went on it and lost lot of weight. They all look good.

i am eating some fruits now
its not for u if u dont like meat much
i live for meat:D

there must have been hundreds of animals that i have digested so far,lol

tuesday 6/27 - 18 days left!

so Monday didn't go as planned, of course! didn't get to the gym AT ALL because of a unexpected family obligation...but what can you do?
woke up at 117.5 this morning... *frustration* !!!!
BUT went to the gym this morning at 7 am and did 25 minutes on the elliptical and 20 min of intervals on the treadmill (for me, intervals are alternating 1 min at 6.7 mph and 1 min at 7.5 mph...is that considered HIIT?)

here's what really happened with food:
B cream of wheat 100
kashi w/ blueberries and milk 110
cheerios with milk 200
S granola bar 120
L carrots 30
pear 70
yogurt 110
lentil and couscous soup 260
D pho ga (vietnamese soup) 600 ??? i have no idea about the calories, it was a "small", but probably had at least a cup of noodles and 2-3 oz of chicken

total calories consumed- 1600
ugh, how did that happen? it was the pho i guess...it was so good though! and i DID have soup twice, which is REALLY salty and i easily retain water...still frustrating though.

today is going to be good, though. already burned 540 at the gym this morning to make up for yesterday and i'm going to go again after work to do what i had planned for today (30 min cardio + legs/abs) = 360 (?) calories

food for today:
B - 2 cups kashi with 1/2 cup skim milk (180)
S- granola bar (120)
L - yogurt (110)
carrots (40)
pear (70)
1 slice ww bread (90)
hummus (50)
mixed greens and tomato (0)
D - mixed greens
walnuts 1 tbsp (90)
1/2 pear (30)
gorgonzola cheese 1 tbsp (50)
olive oil .5 tbsp (50)
balsamic vinegar
corn on the cob (70)
3 oz salmon (175)
strawberry popsicle (50)

total calories consumed = 1200
calories burned at gym = 900
total calories expended = 1300

sounds like a LOT, but i really want to make up for breaking even yesterday. if i can just do this one day as planned, i would feel SO good about myself...

there must have been hundreds of animals that i have digested so far,lol

OMG, that's funny. I like meat, but I've been eating more chicken since it's cheap. I'll probably eat so much, I'll turn into one! CLUCK CLUCK. If I start to grow feathers, be very afraid.:D

thanks, she4, that's really sweet of you to offer! my mother-in-law 2B actually does south beach intermittently, so she has all materials...
honestly though, i LOVE all kinds of foods and want to be free to try anything, so i generally don't like these diets that restrict certain foods...which is why i like weight watchers...it just encourages you to make healthier choices so you're able to eat more, but if you want to eat a piece of fudge, you can, you just have to eat grapefruit for the rest of the day :)

we're going to visit my bf's parents this weekend though, so i'm going to look through the south beach book to see what i think!

I agree w/you whole heartly. I don't want to be tied down either. I count my calories and eat what I want, but I have to remember to watch my calories. Sometimes it's a bear but in other ways it's great for me. I can actually see how many calories I'm eating and how many calories are in food. Sometimes it will scare you.

i was feeling a little tickle in the back of my throat, so i went to get some herbal tea with sweetener right at lunch time. worked out good because i didn't start eating lunch until 1 (i usually eat at 12). i'm hoping it will be easier to get through until dinner now without a snack. since i want to go to the gym, we probably won't eat until 8....6 hours is a LONG time to not eat, especially if i'm going to the gym when i get home. but if i eat anything else today, i'll go over 1200 calories! i guess i ate too much breakfast again...no, i'm not going to eat a snack. just this ONE day i want to do this right. around 4, i'll go get a coke zero for a little caffeine, fake sugar boost instead.

oh coke likght is my saviour too:D

oh yeah, i remember that they had coke "light" when i visited france and spain :)
in the US there are a bunch of options: diet coke, coke zero, diet coke with splenda. all use artificial sweeteners, but different combinations of them. coke zero tastes a bit more like regular soda because it uses acesulfame potassium, but it gives me a bit of a headache sometimes, so i limit myself to one only once in a while. but it's very sweet, so it's a good afternoon snack.
diet coke is more of my staple :)

ok i have a question:
why is it that i can i run 11 miles, but get winded and out of breath from walking up about 30 steps?? this continues to frustrate me. i exercise and exercise, but feel that i'm not getting in shape. isn't that weird?

little victories

so i am determined to not mess up and binge this weekend.
i usually slip up on thursday because there's always a free social event with food at my bf's work on thursday evenings.
unlimited unhealthy food + me = bad idea.
so this week, they are taking orders from everybody and are ordering from this very greasy bad-for-you burger place that offers only veggie burgers and grilled cheese as healthy options (ha!). no salads AT ALL to speak of.
SO, i asked if it would be offensive if i just brought my own salad since we're all just going to be eating in a conference room or something. my bf thought that would be totally fine, so i didn't put in an order and i'll just pick up a grilled chicken salad! i think this will be a really great way to avoid sabotaging all the great progress i made this week. the numbers haven't shown themselves yet this week, but i think they will if i don't cheat.
my short term goal is to be 114 on friday when i skip town for july 4th, and be able to maintain until tuesday when i get back. if i can just lose two more pounds by the next weekend, i think i'll be ready to shop for a bathing suit for greece.
i really like wendy's quote: "nothing tastes as good as thin feels"
that'll be my mantra if i ever need it...
