GOP / Democratic race for the white house.

Does anyone here follow politics? If so, what nominees are you supporting and who do you wish to win the presidency or nomination?

I really like Barack Obama and Ron paul.

I like Barack Obama because he is a great speaker, he is young, and even though i don't agree with everything he says, he has a personality that I really like, sorta like the new JFK.

I like Ron paul because he is one of the only candidates that isn't trying to play political games, and hes out to protect our individual liberties and defend the constitution unlike most other candidates.

Word up on Ron Paul. He has my vote here in SC.

So its mainly democrat verse republic? what are the differences..

Anyone want to briefly explain a few of the top candidates main ideas...

From what i know id vote for obama (sounds awfully like osama :p) or clinton

Both parties are pretty much the same. They all want to spend our money and tax us, just for different reasons.

Ron Paul is a libertarian turned republican for the presidential election. I really like him because he wants real change. He wants to get rid of the IRS and the federal income tax, he is for second amendment rights, and he is against this idea of unifying the US, Canada, and Mexico. I could keep going, but I will stop here.

Really Ron Paul is the only candidate who wants something different.

The rest of the candidates are just all in a crap soup. No matter who you take a spoonful from. It is still just crap.

You know, if someone is anti-abortion and anti-gay I usually am like eh, no thanks. But if you read what ron paul actually says about why he's anti-abortion, I at least have respect for him.

I've never read it, but...

The fact that I am against abortion stems from the fact that I believe that abortion is the murder of a human being. Not because I have any interest in telling people what they can or can't do. This is the most misinterpreted stance in the whole issue. If I seriously did not believe that abortion was murder, I would be vehemently pro-choice. I am absolutely in support of gays doing whatever they want, and anyone else for that matter that does not impact the liberty of another person. I honestly believe that abortion impacts the liberty of another person - and through my belief of the rule of law, I must be anti-abortion. The argument is fetus = human or fetus = non-human. It has nothing to do with "choice".

I did read what he said about it and having respect for the person really doesn't have anything to do with it since the movement to make abortions illegal (I think) would be terrible for this country and thousands of women.

It's too bad too, cause that whole taxes thing I really agree with.

I'm a bit disappointed with the coverage it's getting in the UK. All we hear is;

Obama - He's black and he wants change, and erm, he's black and he's not like George Bush at at all and er....did we forget to say he wants change and he's black?

(That really is all I've heard about him recently)

and of course Hillary - She may not be black but she squats when she pee's!

(OK, I made that up, but more is being made of her being a woman than her policies)

What is his plan to replace funds from eliminating the income tax?

I generally like the Libertarian platform other than the fact that they are generally pro-choice (not that it really matters, that isn't going to be overturned anytime in the foreseeable future with public sentiment the way it is)

Where does our income tax go anyways?

50% of the federal income tax goes to pay for the IRS. Which really makes me sick.

The plan is to allow local and state governments handle their situations. The huge increase in cash flow to the state and local governments will more than cover any need.

Federal Money also comes in from many other tax sources above and beyond the income tax. (as well as government investment programs) Do a little homework and you will find out how much you really pay in taxes.

One the abortion note.

I have never really understood why abortion is a topic that will make or break a candidate. To me it seems like a trivial issue that only effects an extremely small fraction of our society.

It is an issue all about a small minority of people as opposed to issues that effect everyone. Like the federal income tax, social security, the American union idea, or health care.

As far as my opinion on the subject. I am with theGOOCH on my stand that it is evil and wrong. My wife and I have reached the point where we can tell people we are going to have our first child.

After seeing how things work during pregnancy (much less how things go after birth, which will be new to be) abortion is even more wrong than I previously thought.

I am not, however, going to base my vote on only that issue.

I did do some research and contemplating on how much we REALLY pay in taxes and let me tell you, it made me sick.

I think abortions effect more people than you think. Small minority? You do realize that:

1. It doesn't just effect women.

2. The rest population may end up having to pay for the baby that can't be afforded?

Congrats man, it's an incredible time in your life.

I just wonder what this will do to state taxes. I'm going to do a little more research on him. I was beginning to feel there was no decent candidate. I hate our de facto 2 party system because I don't care for either party. I wish he would have just stayed Libertarian or Independent...he's not going to get the nomination anyway because he isn't in lock-step with the neo-cons

Are there any 3rd party candidates I should know about? Right now I'm not digging any of the candidates too much.
