Going Down Together Club

Yes, its true. However.. reason american teams get so good is because they have caadian imports. Alot of our players get traded to the US.

Also, hockey is a sport. Its in the olympics. And since we have something called indoor rinks.. anywhere in the world it is possible t train and build a good team.

I am not a fan of hockey myself.

Yes, I hail from the land of cheese and beer.

Wisconsin.

Mooooo.

But in the city it's not so bad. There is enough going on. I like living here actually.

I know that quite well that it is an indoor sport..but, I was just stating the irony..that's all.

I'm not a big fan of hockey either..it isn't bad...at least it's fast paced. I can't stand baseball...everyone thinks that Americans have to LOVE baseball and I think it is actually quite stupid. Hit a ball..run...stop. etc. But, on the other hand, I love golf. I guess that's the same concept except that you walk to your ball, not run...lol! And, tennis! Tennis is awesome! Wimbledon...:) Our family always watches Wimbledon...and the US Open...since I was a baby, I remember watching the tennis and loving it.

Talk to you all later,
Sarah

Talking of soccer, my husband is watching the world cup as we speak (or type!) He is football mad, and is watching all the matches (He's a postie too so we are finished by 12 noon most days). So that is a match at 2pm, 5pm and 8pm most days for 10 days, then one a day for the next few weeks. Thank goodness I have this forum because I have no interest in it at all!!

Over here practically every person shows some interest and some people who don't even like football go football mad for 5 weeks. There are flags everywhere!! Do the Americans get into the world cup to such a degree, or is it just the die-hard soccer fans?

soo many posts!!

thanks ava and mrs. bear for the encouragement. i made myself feel better this morning by burning off 700 calories at the gym. and i have had a very extremely healthy day so far. breakfast was oatmeal with protein powder and green tea, and lunch was egg beaters, tuna, 4 baby carrot sticks, and an apple. i'm going out to dinner but i'm having a plain chicken sandwich, hold on the cheese and taking off the top bun served with seasonal veggies. mmm can't wait.

i meet with my trainer tomorrow to go over some stuff, meaning that'll take out of some of my gym time before work so i'm going to have to get up early, go do cardio, meet with my trainer, go to work, then go back to the gym and do weight training. what a loong day. and i want to be able to make it to victoria's secret bc they're having their semi-annual sale :p

i work part time, about 24 hours a week at Hollister Co. and I live in Fairfax, VA which is about 20 min outside D.C.

some of my family lives in England also! in Brighton. I looove going there, but i haven't been in the longest time. i'm definately going to london though when i study abroad in spring semester of my junior year at syracuse. i'm choosing between london and strousburg (bc i want to take advantage of the fact that ive been study french for 6 years now) but london has more of the public relations classes and it would be smarter for me to go there. It'll be so much fun, can't wait

i prefer football also avi, but unfortunately, syracuse's football team is horrible. even though we all go to the games and cheer hard with face paint and crazy outfits, we always lose. Our school is better at bball, but i just find football to be more of a fun environment at games. i'm not that much into soccer but my dad has been watching the world cup like crazy. he loooves it lol

Summerbreeze, I actually lived in Virginia for 3 years when I was much younger. We were in Dahlgren from when I was 4 till I was 7, and I went to Potomac Elementary School. How close is Dahlgren to Fairfax? My father worked for British Aerospace and was transferred to the US temporarily. It is a real shame that I was so young when we went, because I remember a lot less than my two older sisters, my big sister is 5 years older than me so she was nearly a teen by the time we left.

What time is it on the East Coast at the moment? In the UK it is bed time!!

PS - My mum loves most sports, especially American Football. She is a big Redskins fan ;)

its almost 5 o'clock here :)

i dont know how far away it is from fairfax, do you remember what part of VA it was in..like east/west/south/north. i'm in the northern part of VA. i think you must be somewhere close by too if your school was called Potomac bc that sounds like you were close to the river maybe? or it could just be a popular name lol i dont know.

I think only die-hards love football in our country. The rest are into hockey and american football and baseball more.. :/ Hate baseball.

Oh ya.. I have been offered 30 day free ti-quan-do lessons.. should I do it?

I like American Football...my son, who is 5, will be playing flag football this year. I am excited! I think team sports are important for a kid to learn how to work with people. I hope he stays active..and my daughter...who is 3...is also pretty active too, she has been in gymnastics already...they both have their father's physique...very very slender.

My husband is 28 yrs old, 5'8" and 130lbs...nice huh? I wish I had his problem..lol.

I've gotta go log off now, making dinner. I've been able to check throughout the day and it has been nice, but now the family is starting to come home and I have to be mom again.

ooo try it out! its free and you may lose some pounds over it! is there anything to lose? i hear its really good cardio/toning but i dont know any more than that

Pounds :p

Well.. its tempting.. but it would be about an hr bus ride each way. But thats ok. I think I would jsut have to swallow my pride about looking like an idiot. XD

cycling bothers my knees so much :( which is bad cause i like doing it!

Summer, going to have to check with my mum about that one. I think we were near Richmond, and my sister went to Georgetown I think for middle school (?). Or something to do with George anyway? Gosh, I haven't thought about this for years!!

SarahL, I think it is so good getting your little boy into sports at such an early age. I remember starting High School and being expected to play netball, having no clue about the rules (which they never explained) and being so unused to activity that it was embarrassing. So I didn't really try to get into sports. Infact I hated them ... but now I love exercising!! I think that High School is too late to start getting into sports, you care too much about what others think by then

Yeah, that's why I wanted him to start football early..or anything for that matter...because then he would be 'used to it' and not new...just like you said. He can make an informed choice when he gets older...so can my daughter...

Yes! get girls into sports.. my parents never did and I regret it :(

I did like.. 20 minutes of arm weights yesterday.. and 70 stomach crunches.. wowzers. my left shoulder hurts a bit right now.. but my arm muscles are feeling great.. (and hard :D) I like having weights at work.. because I cant get out and properly exercise.

That is such a good idea!! Especially doing weights because I don't think that you get so sweaty as when you do cardio. Do you have shower facilities where you work? I know some places do so that people can bike into work, but not be sweaty all day :D

My parents didn't get us into sports, mainly I think because my mum didn't like sports as a kid, and didn't want to force the issue with us. She concentrated on the food issues, but i think if you make sure kids are active, and don't get too hung up on food (basically healthy diet, but no food is denied), that may be the key!

yes.. there is a shower. I generally walk to work.. when I dont wake up too late. lol.

I have decided to make a goal for doing crunches. I recently bought a macbook pro laptop... and have decided to do a crunch for every dollar it cost :) 2,145 of em!!

Well, I wish I had been into more sports when I was younger. My parents are both intellectuals..and so was I. I play multiple instruments and speak multiple languages..but, I was in marching band (keep your giggling to a minimum, okay?) I also played soccer and golfed. That was it for me. That is why I want so much for my kids...sports, studies...languages...etc etc.

I could talk all day about my kids, but, I will not bore you all! Those who have kids understand, but those who don't won't until you do...they become the center of your universe! My son told me yesterday that he wants to be a doctor and a deacon. He wants to be a deacon rather than a priest because he wants to get married and have babies...that all came out of his mouth, isn't it wonderful? He would like to be a doctor for 'the people who don't have anything' -- he was really taken back by the hurricane damages last year. My daughter then told me (remember, she's 3) that she wants to be a princess and Barney. LOL!

With that, I'll go..
Sarah

I'm a mix of both sports/arty kid. I've always enjoyed both.
