Going Down Together Club

Summer--it's ok:D !!! I know it sucks right now, but just hop right back on the horse. That's all you can do. I know what I do before I go places that I know will tempt me is to eat a healthy snack right before I go. It helps carry me over for a bit at least. I understand though...sometimes splurging is something you just cannot help. Don't let other people influence you though. Do what you want, you know? At the end of the day that's all that counts. I don't think you'll be too far off track.

As for me...mum is making beefy Mexican stuff for dinner. That's like my comfort food right there. I told myself that I will just never learn how to make Mexican food lol. Anyways, she offered to make me chicken instead, which is really nice. I just won't look at all the yummy goodness. Lol, I hope that me not eating the unhealthy food will coax her to make healthier meals. I hate having to turn down to food but...I know I need to. So chicken and some fruit for dinner pour moi. How...exciting...

I'm going to start searching for some new healthy recipes and try making them myself...see how the fam likes them. I'm not that great of a cook, but I can try!

Hope the rest of you are having a nice day!

Okay, had cereal for breakfast today. I like that because it is only like 170 calories. I have been adding the apples...and I think it is working a bit, it bulks up my meals, without adding too many calories. Got my lazy butt on the treadmill yesterday and it felt awesome. I got a new mp3 player and have some good songs on it...like aerosmith, etc...to pump up the workouts. I even found an old zz top cd and downloaded 'legs' on it..lol!!! Maybe someday I'll have 'legs' like that!? I also requested (via internet) some books from the library on many of the popular dieting plans out there now, I thought I would muse the way through and see if I could pick up some tips. If anything neat pops out at me, I'll pass it along to you guys.

Well, I'll check back later.

Avajayne...you and I have the same goals, you said that before...tell me more about yourself...age, height etc. hopefully we can compare notes along this journey!!

Take care guys,
Sarah

Summerbreeze, I wouldn't worry about one day even if it was 2100 cals. That sounds more like a maintainence day to me rather that a weight gain day. And the extra cals may even boost your metabolism :) . I agree with Avajayne, that eating something healthy before hand is a good idea. It is better to eat first and go late when everyone has hopefully tucked into the food (and hopefully polished it off :D ), rather than go hungry, and try to resist temptation.

And Avajayne, I love Mexican food aswell! I get the sachets of Fajita or Taco spices which we normally put with beef, but if I'm being healthy I add it to veggie stirfries, or chicken, or add a small amount of oil (or use a spray) and paint it onto veggies for roasting!! If you haven't tried this, maybe give it a go and see if it satisfies your spicy side!! :D

Mrs. Bear, that sounds like a good idea! I will definitely have to try that, thanks for passing it along.

Sarah, I'm 17, 5'1 (SHORT :() and currently just weight in at 138.5. I've lost about 6.5 pounds since the end of May. I have a feeling that my weight loss is going to slow down soon though. How about for you?

Well...yeah, I am 5'1" too, and approx (I say approx because I haven't weighed myself in awhile) 145lbs. I am 27yr old so, your age makes me feel ancient..lol!

My little story...
I was approx 130 since college, got married, got pregnant with my son when I was 22...ate like it was going out of style..haha...gave birth, got pregnant again when he was 11 mos old, gave birth to my daughter when I was 24...after that (yes, after giving birth) I weighed 184 (and I am 5'1") -- went on Body for Life and lost a TON! due to working out and eating right. I then did South Beach too, got down to 122 about a year ago..and then something hormonally shifted or something..and the weight has come back on. I know I need to work out more..do more strength training..etc...and watch my foods. I am an emotional eater like you wouldn't believe. I love baked goods...cakes, cookies, etc. I don't really like pie or chocolate too much (however dark chocolate is divine!) and I am not a 'salty snacks' person--I could take or leave potato chips. I also do not do soda. ICK! Water...or coffee...those are my drinks of choice. I do not do alcohol...due to suffering from chronic migraines. I have dropped a bunch of my triggers...to keep me out of the hospital!

argh, I ramble on...sorry guys.

We are getting storms here in Ohio today..just got 7 cubic yards of mulch delivered...yay...in the rain!

Sarah-I too used to suffer from chronic migraines. When I say chronic...I mean I'd get a migraine...it'd last for two weeks...then I'd be lucky to go a day or two without one...and it'd come back. I went through various medical facilities...was put on an unhealthy amount of medications...(I mean I was like 14/15 and was on 7 different meds at one time...)...the meds ended up adding a lot more problems and I still had my headaches.

I've now been migraine free for 2 months (actually haven't been really sick at all..) and I believe that it is totally due to my change of lifestyle. I try to run daily and really pack in all the good foods along with drinking LOADS of water. I agree with you there, water is pretty much my drink of choice. I cut out all caffeine...including my daily black coffee which was hard to do, but I did it. I cannot tell you how much better I feel. That alone is probably the reason I'm never looking back. Migraines are not fun at all. The only fun part is going to the ER and getting those lovely muscle relaxers and pain meds. Yep...those sure do the trick..(My mom said to me on a particular visit.."So this is how you'd be when you're drunk.")

Just thought I'd write down my little diet testimony. :D. Hope you're all having good days!

Oh yeah..those muscle relaxers, pain meds etc..are pretty nice..especially when they are delivered via IV...

Drinking isn't worth it. I, at age 27, have only ever been 'drunk' maybe 3 times in my life. I, thankfully, am a person who doesn't get hung over because I get sick right away..lol. So, I don't have a problem not drinking anymore. I never got into it. I guess I'm a 'wet blanket' when it comes to partying. My husband keeps trying to get me to drink with him, and the funny thing is..he isn't a drinker. I think he finds it a challenge now...see if he can make me have a margarita, a glass of wine etc. It was funny, we just had our anniversary on the 10th..and we went out to dinner. The waitress wanted to know what kind of drink we wanted, my hubby ordered Merlot and I tried to order coffee...she said 'can't you do better than that?' and I was like...'no' -- and she told me that the management was trying to buy us drinks for our anniversary. So, I ended up getting a virgin banana daquri (I can never spell that word right)--??? I felt like I had to explain that I have a medical condition and that I just wasn't some odd teetotaller.

Sorry I got on a tangent..lol.

Check back later..
Sarah

I am also a big fan of water. My sisters drink lots of diet coke, but I don't like the chemicals and the caffeine. Also artificial sweetners tend to upset my stomach. And I don't see the point in drinking fruit juice (acid attacks my teeth anyway) So I have just water. You should see the odd looks my husband and I get in pubs when we order a glass of water for me!! :p You'd think I had just asked for a glass of frogspawn to drink :D

I didn't binge.. but I did enjoy myself. Had a brownie desert (split it between me and my friend), had curry chicken and rice but didn't eat much of ther rice.. and had some hot wings (12 split between both of us). And 3 shots of tequilla. Was good tequilla too. And diet coke :D I dunno.. its so natural for me to order diet now.. and not eat lots of starch.. and share any sweets. lol I took the bus to work today but I got off 5 blocks early and walked the rest of the way. I am so exausted right now.. had such a crappy sleep and am working today >.<

I currently suffer from chronic migranes/headaches.. a condition I have had ever since I was old enough to identify the pain in my head (basicly from birth). And untill I hit 9 or so I was never a heavy child.

I was given a 30 day free ti-quan-do lessons certificate from my friend who teaches it.. I think I might try it out in my spare time.

I am gonna give my cake to to the lady i work for... I might have 1 peice (take off the icing) just cause it is my bd cake. The rest can go to my employer and her other help. :)

Anyway.. thats my updates! Oh yes... and I found the best Crystal Light ever... Passionfruit Pinapple. OMG.. it tastes like real fruit juice.. without the calories!! Its gorgious!

Where do you guys all work? Do you work? Where does everyone live?

I'll answer my own questions..

I work, part time. (19 hours a week)
I am a theft claim adjuster with Allstate Insurance Company
I live in Green, Ohio.

Okay, not 20 questions..but enough!

-Sarah

I work full time (40 hrs a week)
I'm a clinical registrar
I live in Austin, Texas

I am having the worst day ever. I just want it to be over, but unfortunately it's only just begun! :(

guy problems+family problems+eating right=not a good combination.

I'm sorry to hear that Luxurious247 :( It's hard enough when you are feeling good about life, let alone when things are going wrong. Just remember we are here to offer an ear, motivation or advice ... whatever you need ;)

I work full-time as a post woman.
It should be 40 hrs but it is job-and-finish so the faster you go, the earlier you finish. Also, I take any overtime I can get!!!
I also deliver Betterware catalogues (I don't know if you have that over the pond, its like Avon but isn't makeup)
I live in Clevedon, England.

Ohhh I would LOVE TO GO TO ENGLAND!!!!! That is what I think is soo wonderful about this message board, it includes people from all over the world!!! I get tired, sometimes, about hearing just stuff from the states, lol! We have enough problems!

My family is from England but I have never been there...I have this yearning to go though. My husband manages a branch of Enterprise Rent-A-Car here in Ohio..and the next promotion could take us anywhere...in the states or in Canada, England, Germany, Japan or Ireland (I think?) I would LOVE to venture away from comfy little Ohio..haha!

Lux.. chin up girl. Guy problems are never worth the weight of the worry in gold, you know it will pass. Families will always have problems, thats what makes them family. What also makes them family is that everyone works through them.. because your a family. Its what you do.

Diet m'dear is the least of your worries. It is never to late to start being good again, and if today is bad tomorrow is bound to be much better. Jusrt relax. take this as a 'I'm off my rocker' day.. and get back on the horse tomorrow :)

Where abouts in England is your family from, SarahL? Is any of your family still living in England?

I think if you are the globe trotting type, working for a company like Rent-a-Car must have fantastic opportunities.

My husband and I do not go on holiday often, but when we do, we love going to America. In 10 years we have had 4 holidays, 1 in Malta and 3 in America. We went to New York when we were first going out, then 5 years later we got married in Las Vegas, and then just this last January we got some great cheap flights with Continental and flew to New York, then San Fransisco, then drove down to LA, flew to Las Vegas, then home. This was all in 10 days and was a lot of travelling but great fun. Also, we tend to go away in January so the flights and accomodation are a lot cheaper.

You should come over for a holiday. And unusually for Britain, we are actually having some great weather at the moment, I actually have a tan  :D

Haha! Well, my family is from the Yorkshire area...I think I also had/have relatives in Cumbria-- let me tell you, my mother's family name is Pritchard and when my aunt went to Ireland she had a big issue going to a Roman Catholic church with a last name like that..haha!

I really feel like sometimes I just want to pick up and get on a plane...and just GO! Especially with how wonderful the great US is right now. We just went to Canada and our dollar has lost so much value lately, it was embarassing.

Oh...I don't want to get into that right now...it is exhausting!

That's right, Clevedon is actually a seaside town on the Bristol Channel, just next to Weston-super-mare. Bristol is actually our nearest big city, only 20 mins away by car. We are classed as the South West. I love northern accents though!! Luckily about half of the posties in Clevedon are from up North!! Say 'Eh-up lass!' to your family for me ;)

You might appreciate the humour in this ... on our bunny hop from LA to LV, I was sat next to an Australian woman you works for Quantas and flies to Britain a lot, so we got chatting. I said that the whole flying all around America thing started because we wanted to go to San Fran, but fly from Bristol Airport as it was much closer (they only fly to New York from Bristol!) and the London airports are a couple of hours drive away. She thought this was really amusing because in Australia, like with you guys in the US, 2 hours travelling is nothing! Your countries are so massive that distance is something that is just accepted as part of getting around.

Its like my Ticker for my cycling. That 980 miles is from one end of Britain to the other .... and that includes Scotland!!:D

I work, I am a personal care worker.
I work 3 x 24 hr shifts a week. (live in care for 3 days for a lady with muscular distrophy)
I live in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

I went to England last year... June 29th - August 6th. 5 weeks. I stayed at a little place a 1/2 hr outside of Exeter, in Devon. I was there for 2 weeks, and was on the Isle of Wight for 3 weeks. :) We did a day trip into London.

Do you watch hockey, Avi? I heard that the hurricanes beat the edmonton oilers (did I get the name right?) the other day. Seems unusual to have a southern warm location to have such a good hockey team.

I love Canada too! I would love to vacation to BC...or anywhere. The world is such a wonderful place...and I, before I die, will travel all over it!
