Gastric Balloon

Hello,

Yeap it has been a tough time. The portion bit is so hard. For the first two weeks I had to have the same amount as 3 yogurt pots full of liquids then solids, which was really odd, as it was hardly anything. I am just having three small meals a day, with nothing in between...For breakfast I will have either a yogurt, ready break or some fruit. Lunch is soup, some crackers and cheese or a omlette...and for tea, a tiny jacket pot with beans and a small salad, veg burger with no breadcrumbs and some potatoes etc....It's very hard the whole portion size thing, as you have got to work with the balloon, which I didn't really understand how too at the beginning, but I do now.
Your doing just great though, well done you! I take my hat off to you, doing this over your 30th, it was mine last year...Well done you! Birthday cake would have been tempting though :drool5: lol
When are you due to have a weigh in?

Cornishgal x

i was very good today i thought, i had a very big chicken salad in work yesterday i work in a hotel u see and I just could not stop chomping well i paid for it last night i was so violently ill. i brought breakfast and lunch to work today- a muller corner for brekkie, lunch was tesco light choices cuppa soup 2 crisp breads and houmus and it was quite sufficient, i did have half a buttered roll when i got home and a choco rice cake as a snack which is ok to me as they are fairly low fat, i am finding tesco light choices micro dinners excellent portions sizes they are filling and tasty and ideal until i get used to portioning up food myself u know, do u think snack a jacks as a snack would be ok? i am still finding it hard not to snack so i am trying to have low fat lesser of all evils stuff until i get used to the whole plan

Aww it's really annoying isn't it...I was so frightened about which food too eat and not. If I feel hungry, I tend to leave it for 30 mins and see if I still want it, as I think alot of it is in my head. If I still feel hungry, I've been chomping on Breadsticks, as they are just like crisps (well sort of, lol) but seem to do the job. Snack a Jacks are great, any rice cakes or crisp breads, should be ok. I did have a satsuma today between my meals, for the first time and it seems ok. I have managed to work out how much, portion wise I can get away with now, as I suffer all day and the next if I get it wrong...You sound like your doing great :) The only thing my dietitian did say to me, is to try and stay away from the cup a soups and go for a thicker one, as it stays there longer and get more of a feeling of fullness, I have to say I agree with her from my experience...x

ur right about the cuppa soups and the ones i am drinking are watery noodle soups practically boiling water with floating bits, i got myself a little beaker and i am going to halve a tinned soup for work tomorrow and over the weekend i am going to make up a big batch of weight watchers o point soup but i am going to put a bit if chicken in it for protein, its amazing what will satisfy u now as opposed to before the balloon, i know what u mean about suffering u think a fter u sleep it will al settle down but hwne that horrible full acid feeling is there when u wake up its horrible, dreading easter a little bit as i will miss my egg:drool5:

New Comer

Hi. I'm having my balloon put in on 20th April, and i'm so excited. Also a little scared. I've got 4 stone to lose, so fingers crossed.
I must say this forum has really helped with my decision, i've read every comment and am really inspired by some peoples results.
Any advise would be gratefully received.
Thanks x

Its me, and im still alive, but only just..... ha ha
Im on day 5 and still cant even keep water down, im hving the tiniest little sips but no joy, iv tried about 2 spoons of yogurt which lasted a couple of seconds, a small piece of water melon prob 10 mins and some porridge that stayed about an hour, the cramps are still hurrendous and the tablets they have given me for acid just arnt working so iv been having little sips of magnisum trisilocate which seems to be helping better than anything.... so if anyone is suffering with that give it a go. Up untill today I would have been quiet happy to of had it taken out iv felt that ill, my Hubby said he would never have let me do it if he had realised how bad I was going to be, but hopefully I am now on the up and it will have been worth it. Does anyone know what the best food to try to keep down is, im getting a bit worried that I will never eat again as the thought and smell of food only makes me vomit at the mo (neer thought I would ever ever say that ha ha) I dont drink milk so think thats what the prob with the yogurt is.. any advice would be great girls......
And hay Chick the op is fine I think thats the easiest bit so dont worry x

Hope to hear from any of you soon and good luck every one, and hay in a few months we are all going to be skinny balinkies yeahhhh xx:party:

Also just alive

Dee treacle...hope your ok ,I am now on day three and have just got back from a dodgy flight back from prague, like you I have been cursing and been saying I want it out , I am on just water and tea with the odd mouthful of yogurt but its all hit and miss to be honest.

Like you the acid has been the worse thing, so will try that next....

Chin up xxx we will get through this...

HAPPY EASTER TO MY FELLOW BALLOONERS:seeya:
oh well done chick, god I dont know how you managed a flight as well, and you are doing so well to get tea and yogurt down you, i still cant get anything down, i had some weetabix earlier and it only stayed down 5mins, im so thursty to but again anything more than a sip of water comes back, so you really are making good progress....
Does anyone know when the stomach cramps stop I know its the tummys way of trying to get tid of it but when does it start to except it... I need to drink something properly ha ha..
So how is everyone else getting on, can anyone eat normally.. I mean no pain and keeping it down..
any advice would be great girls :ack2:

Ur doing fine stop putting pressure on yourself to eat - i did and i was violently ill, it was nearly 2 full weeks before i could eat anything more solid than toast and butter which kept me going once i came off the liquid diet and my liquid diet was just water i could not stomach anything more. now i can eat what i want which is upsetting me as i will need to exercise some will power, the balloon is great but it is possible to eat until ur physically sick :ack2:

i am joining weight watchers tuesday so that i can stick to a proper and sutainable eating plan and also so i can have some treats without feeling guilty, i need to watch the portion control, i think everyone with the balloon once they start feeling better slightly over indulges until they remember or are reminded by their hubbies :smash: how much this cost and how sick they were the first few weeks.

take care looking forward to hearing about ur first weigh in.

Ellen

ah yes I remember the awful first week! in fact I had a pretty awful first month if Im honest. I remember wanting to have it out thinking what am I doing to myself. but on the plus side you lose a lot of weight.

its been almost 3 months and Ive lost 16 pounds. Not great as I lost 9 pounds the first 2 weeks which was so inspiring but its been slow since. I find I can eat quite a lot right now. its not a miracle tool, you still have to diet and if you are an emotional eater you can still manage a lot of bad foods. How is everyone else doing for weight loss?

Hey toronto! im 5 and a half weeks in and have lost 12lbs. i would like to lose 2.5 to 3 stone over all. I do feel the weight loss is starting to slow down too. I recently just split up with my fiance so spent a full week hardly eating, then the following week pigging out. so having to be tough now and do it properly again!
how much do u aim to lose within the 6 months?
And well done on losing over a stone, keep with it.

WOOP WOOP WOOP..... I got a small bowl of soup down me today and it stayed down, yeahhhhhhhh!!!!
I have also weighed myself today first week over, and iv lost just over 17lb it dosent seem right in a week, mind you i havnt eaten or really drank anything for a week, but also know that once I start eating again I will prob put quiet a bit of it back on untill it evens out and I start loosing gradually. But hay its all good and the cramps in my tummy are a little bit better so roll on another week and hopefully will feel much better....
I just want to thank all my new freinds as it was your messages that kept me going, i wanted to have the bugger out believe me, so thankyou and im finally on the mend I hope ha ha...
Keep at it everyone we are going to be gorg by the summer he he:seeya:

well done dee i;m so pleased for you , must make it all worth while.

glad to hear the cramps are getting better, how is the acid now?

I dont really know if i feel too much beer than yesterday, i still feel very tired and crampy but heh only on day 5.

I have done lighter life before and so far this is harder but who knows hopefully i get a good loss this week to keep me going

what i find pretty disturbing, is how you guys pay for surgery and go through all this pain and horridness, to go and eat such shitty shocking foods as butter on toast?
Im guessing it never occurred to you guys that this was possibly the reason you got a little overweight in the first place? Butter is pretty much 100% fat, even the copycat spreads are no easier on your stomach.
Perhaps you might want to go for thicker vegetable soups than watery noodle ones?

Wishes- this balloon is not a wonder solution as you say and just because you have one doesnt mean u cant make mistakes ( as most people on regular diets do), Ellens post seems to recognise that will power is required so .....good on you ellen for taking steps towards getting on a sensible eating plan. It seems some are luckier than other with the balloon some adjust to smaller , healthier options some need an extra bit of support.

Whilst your comments are valid, the balloon is not easy and is often a last resort for those who wish to avoid invasive surgery such as a bypass. I think we all see this as a reinforced behaviour programme and a life changing process.

I dont think anyone who has dieted can ,hand on heart ,say they get it right all the time we have all fallen of the wagon at some point.

Well done to u guys who are still on the route to maintained weight loss and changed dietry behaviours.

Chick

HEAR HEAR CHICK!!!!!!
I agree with you 100% an to be honest we all know what you should and shouldnt eat.... just because we are bigger dosnt mean we are stupid, and when you havent eaten for over a week and cant even keep water down you will try anything to get some relief believe me, and its not long term its just untill the balloon settles down and you can get in to a proper routine...

Anyway Chick well done you to, and you prob wont feel great for another few days, im on day 8 and still not well, but we will get there all of us, and we are all here to support each other when ever anyone needs it.... and we have another bank holiday coming up in a few weeks so we will be able to enjoy that one...
keep me posted everyone we are all gorgeous xxx:leaving:

Oh by the way Chick
heartburn and acid still there quite bad, worse when you wake up in the morning, if I find another cure ill let you know
xx

Toast on butter was what my gastro nurse recommended i try whilst i was being so ill as any food is better than no food, the calorie and fat content is irrelevant when you are violently ill for 72 hours. However I am well aware of the fat calorie and nutritional content of most foods as are my fellow ballooners here on the forum, none of us are novices to weight loss and I hope you did not intend to sound as arrogant as you came across, all comments and advice is welcome but only if it is meant in the right spirit, this is a support network and nobody here needs to be told where they are going wrong we are well aware of our shortcomings, thank you very much.

gastric balloon in Canada?

Does anyone know of a good place for an American to get the gastric balloon in Canada? The balloon is not offered in the States yet and I really am interested in getting one. Any information would be helpful. Thanks,
