Yooooo,

Thought this forum needed a place for all the super nerds like myself to hang out and converse with other gamer types.

Only started gaming "properly" when I was about 16 but before that I was one of the original Pokemon freaks. Since then I've played Lost Odyssey, all of the God's of War, Assassins Creed, both Uncharted games, Bioshock 1&2, Fallout 1&2, Silent Hill, Castlevania and a butt-ton of other sweetass games!

Just brought Fable 3 and Pokemon White yesterday and put about 8 hours into Fable. Such a cool game. Anyone else played it? What path did you take?

So, yeah. What games do you guys play? Maybe could be a place to recommend games, do reviews, talk about upcoming releases (do you guys have the 3DS in the States yet? Played one yesterday and it's WEIRD) and just talk general gaming :D

My favourite game that I've played recently is Red Dead Redemption.

OOo! A gaming nerd thread - yay :D!

I started gaming with Doom and Unreal tournament back in the day lol! I love Devil May Cry, God of War, Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Final Fantasy games (mostly :p). I've only played the first Uncharted but it was awesome, need to the the second one at some point lol!

I'm playing Fallout New Vegas and Marvel Vs Capcom 3 at the moment on my PS3 and Gears of War 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 on my friends 360 lol! Haven't played Fable but I have heard good things about it!

I did think about getting the 3DS but I have a DS lite that I hardly use so I dunno if I would end up playin on it a lot or not lol!

Yayyy! A nerd! :grouphug:

How are you finding New Vegas? Really want it but heard it's very similar to first and second and that all the problems that they said they'd address from the previous 2 haven't been addressed in the new one either. Still want it though!

And you're a FF person! My boyfriend has played all of them (and has all the toys, been to all the conventions--uberrrr nerd) but I've only played 7 and 10.

Think the 3DS is like £250..Pretty much a months rent for me. Can't justify it!!

Adore Silent Hill but it's SO scary. Seriously. Even the old school graphics don't make it any less creepy!!

I think I'm considered a gamer. Maybe a light one. I used to play Monster Hunter, Harvest Moon (did I mention I'm also a garden geek) and a few Final Fantasy games but I try to stay away from magic and violence. (how can I be a gamer now!? lol)
I'm more of a Sims player. I have every single Sims game, expansion pack and stuff pack that there is. I've had Sims since the first one came out. I think I prefer PC games. I tried Animal Crossing for about a year but after losing over a million on a bad turnip stalk exchange purchase...I stopped playing.

I played Wow on low video setting on my old crappy PC.
I only play PC games.
Now I'm getting into Lord of the rings online, a really AWESOME RTS fantasy called Demigod, league of legends, and a few other.s... I'm sure I'll be getting more soon.

LOTRO is pretty cool! I've played most of the FFs - skipped the MMO, and just got bored with FF12...

Right now I'm playing Dragon Age II, which is pretty awesome, but not as awesome as Mass Effect. All of these have either magic or violence though, and very little tea! ;)

The Sims is dangerous for me, if only because I can stay up for 'just another day' which may be why I haven't purchased the later ones :)

I love New Vegas but it made me appreciate Fallout 3 even more. New Vegas was nowhere near immersive as the predecessor. I didn't feel as I was in post-apocalyptic America. It just seems to be missing that special retro-futuristic, nuclear paranoid Americana element. The absence of the Enclave and their patriotic propaganda is palpably missing. I've never been big on the wild west theme and you WILL see tons of desert here and very few true urban settings (just Vegas, Freeside and Westside).

On the technical side, the game had millions of bugs, glitches and crashes, nothing compared to FO3. Some of these were game breaking. God help you if you weren't playing on the PC. The only big improvement was the the multiple end game quests.

Other alltime favorites:
Been playing Silent Hill since day one and own all of them except Homecoming.
DDR, beatmania, drummania
Resident Evil 1-3
Tekken (although 4 sucked)
Alan Wake
Chrono Trigger
Star Ocean 2
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII and Tactics
Parasite Eve
Bioshock (wow can't wait for Bioshock INFINITE)
Dragon's Age

I really don't really consider myself a "gamer" nowadays. So few games worth playing.

YAY, gamers :D

Daybehavior, thanks for your feedback on New Vegas, I'd heard similar from a few other people so pretty sure I wont be getting it now. BIOSHOCK INFINITE!! Have you seen the trailer dude? Looks incredible. Very, very excited!

Holly, I wonder how different White and Black are? I'm about 15 hours into Pokemon White. LOVE IT. A bunch of my friends got it so we can battle please! :p I feel about 10 years old again!

Monster, what other PC games do you like? I was really into Age of Empires (and similar games) for a long time but my laptop just doesn't run them as well as the computer I had prior).

My first unholy love was Diablo, which I was probably playing while many of you were still in diapers.. hehe......
The games that I do get into are usually ones that I play the hell out of.
But I really enjoy the 3rd person arcade style like Diablo 2, and I also like a good storyline.
In my early years on an Apple and early PC.. I like a few games, like Zork.. yup... played it!!! (never really got very far on those text only adventure games as a 10 year old, but I love the hell out of reading the story lines!)
OH.. I remember a really Conan game for the PC, it was an arcade game, but it was infinitely better than the Atari and Nintendo games for sale at the time.
I know i can't remember them all, but I LOVED Wizardry (was there a Wizardry 2?), early Ultimas, 2, 3 and 4 if I recall correctly, and a very simple but engaging game call Xyphus, which never did get the attention it deserved.
Ultima 10, which was an early 3D game, was horrifically bad on the PC. It's one of the games I quit playing after a pretty short time.
I just remember that I played Wizardry either my freshman or sophomore year of high school.
If that doesn't date me, nothing does.. LOL
OH>>>>>> one of my dearest beloved games was another early activision game call Archon. It was designed around the game of Chess, but had different rules of course.
I really never like Chess very much, but I did enjoy a program called Battle Chess, where the parts walked across the screen and beat the hell out of each other when you captured them... haha.

There was a really fun game from Activision that I played a few years back, that was a lot of fun. BATTLEZONE 2!!!!
Also.. I really loved Castle Wolfenstein (the 2nd Wolfenstein 1st person shooter, which was actually the 3rd wolfenstein game)
I also enjoyed games like Doom and Quake, but the newer ones just don't feel as "video gamey" as the older ones, since there's a lot less solo player storylines, at least on the PC< and I don't play games on the PC that were designed for consoles, since they don't make use of the full capabilities of the PC.
I know I've forgotten some. That's okay. I'll get around to them later.
Anyone else remember the early days? :D
OH.. yeah.. I also played Starcraft alot..... and Homeworld.. OMG.. that was a complete revolution in gaming.
I never thought I'd say this, but I actually really the song written by Yes for the homeworld game. I never gave this band much credit, and I never thought a song written for a video game would be any good.. .ROFLMAO.

Earlier days... did you play... The Dark Crystal on the Apple II? ;)

I never beat Zork, but I did beat Enchanter and a couple other adventure games... including the Hitchhikers Guide!

I do get very annoyed at games designed for the console and ported to PC though. FFS why not let me use 'i' to get to my inventory, instead of having to hit escape and use the wheel menu to choose :p Among other things.

After Diablo, I played NOX and Revenant. (both sort of diablo clones)
At the time, Revenant was totally awesome, but the only problem was that 2nd half of the game was so poorly finished, that it never should have been shipped.
Revenant had the best dialogue of any game I had played up to that point.
It was hysterical.

I played WoW from early alpha testing stages, but gave up on it recently.

Completely hooked on DragonAge at the moment - DA2 has just been released, but in all honesty, I went back to the first one after one playthrough.

Looking forward to Diablo3, even though I doubt it will be anything outstanding - Blizzard seems to be more interested in WoW than anything else.

Might try the new Fable when it comes out. I loved the first one. One of the few games I ever finished on the old XBox. The other ones were the two Buffy games - and yes, I used to watch Buffy. And Angel. And I'm not ashamed to admit it! ;)

One of my first games I remember was Manic Mansion on the C64. Loved it!! And Day of the Tentacle later on. And I used to play Dungeon Keeper on the PC later on, it was out around the same time as Diablo 1. Great game!!

Zelda on the GameBoy - the old grey one with the monochrome display. Wonder how many people even still remember that? *lol*

Recently played Amnesia - The dark descent - Weird game, but with a really cool storyline. Also the only game that actually made me nearly jump out of my skin while playing it.

Do you have a multicore system? I upgraded my comp, and DA2's release prompted me to start playing DAO again but... I can't go anywhere in Denerim without crashing :( And I only managed to make it through Return to Ostagar by removing half of my cores from the processor affinity :(

I've got a quad-core, yes, but a really crappy graphic card (hubby got my expensive one to play WoW after his bit the dust).

DA:O is supposed to work just nicely on a single core (as per their minimum requirements). Are you sure you meet the other minimum requirements? Or maybe you've got some processor hogger running in the background?

Sometimes just reducing graphics quality works miracles.

I've even tried turning off sound. :/

And just got a new graphics card too! Even with graphics turned down to minimum and sound turned off... still has problems. I've basically got a dual quad core - so 8 processors. I've tried lowering to 4, but not to 1 yet. Lowering it to 4 made a huge difference. Reading their forums it sounds like it's a known issue, but no clue if they're going to patch it or what.

Was pretty disappointing! Not that DA2 is bad but... I don't think I like it as much.

Hmm...as said, it works pretty good on my single quad, never had any real issues. I'm afraid there won't be that much happening for Origins anymore, with DA2 having been released - it looks as if they are more worried about that than offering support for DA:O. :(

I guess if it is worth the hassle for you, try lowering to 2 or even 1, and see if it makes a difference.

And I agree, I prefer DA:O by a country-mile. The second one seems as if they didn't put a lot of effort into it - all dungeons look the same, the character models are flat and lifeless, the elves simply look dumb, and it took me about 6 hours for a full playthrough. I'm back to DA:O as well! :)
