G8r80 and GT2003: onward!

229.5 lbs this morning. No big deal. I ate clean pretty much the entire weekend. Football pics tonight for the kiddo. If it's quiet at the house I might come home and ride the bike for a while. Either way, HEAVY chest and tri's tomorrow with 30 minutes of aerobic activity to follow. Will post back then.

I have started the fish oils, 2 per day for now. I have done some recent "continuing education" for my profession that shows the omega 3's are really beneficial in a number of disease states. They counteract the inflammatory response your body has to injury, sickness, stress etc. I haven't found the recommended dosing yet but it won't be long. I'll post when I find out the recommendations.

*****Recommended dosing is around 1-4 grams/day depending on what conditions you are trying to treat/prevent. I'll shoot for 3-4 grams/day and adjust my dosing accordingly.

Good one, Focus!

I certainly thought so. Teeheehee. :sport2:

Yes, read through my journals and Drex's journals when you start your swimming training as I have addressed every conceivable question and solution along my path and goal of swimming proficiency.

Yup. I be allupons! I've actually been taking notes, so will just be a quick refresher scan. (<3 Scrapbook Firefox extension).

Hmm, 10 a day huh. I probably can't afford that many, lol. I'll actually do some research and see the recommended daily amount of omega 3's and go from there.

I save you some time: almost all the study's that have seen positive effects (in almost every aspect of human functioning, it's really quite amazing) used doses at or in excess of 3000 mg of combined EPA and DHA. Therefore, that's the recommended dose.

Most decent natural oil comes in 1000 mg capsules and contains 180 mg EPA (18% by weight) and 120 mg DHA (12% by weight). At 2 capsules a day you aren't really doing ****.

Here's the good news, though: what you are paying for and what you're getting is probably garbage. Starting to feel like a spokesman for trueprotein or something, but they have good oil (in the above size and concentration) at something like $24/kg. This should be the case for most supplement companies who don't suck. And don't get anything with extra **** added in there. You don't need special sauce or primrose oil for the ladies or whatever stupid **** they'll wanna do. Just the oil. Without the impurities.

So, about $7/month @ 10g/day. Greg, you can afford $7 a month for the single greatest supplement ever conceived. If you have to, stop taking something or everything else to afford it. INCLUDING FOOD, I WILL CUT YOU, you excuse-making pansy! :violent: ;)

The social aspect is important to me (call me what you want, I speak the truth). Hey, whatever it takes...

It's called being honest, actually, afaik. :p

At least you're direct about it. All these running clowns be all up in my grill like, 'You must be into the social aspect of endurance, because that's what matters!' But all indirect-like. And I be like, 'Dudes. I just, uh, wanna be able to do stuff good. I don't care if anyone's watching. Whycome you so vain. The F man runs for Righteousness, not for admiration of Sally Run-Fan.' But of course I don't say that, cause I'm given to understand people like aren't allowed to ask questions, due to it upsetting everyone who is not a robot programmed for satire. :D

Anyway, 10 caps a day, not 2! Do the reading and it'll just repeat what I just told you, minus the helpful hint as to where to acquire the good stuff.

Anyway, my point is that if you're externally motivated, it makes a whole lot of sense to get your external... motivating. So, good for you. Also yeay wifey. Wooh wooh, and such. ^_^

Edit: oh, I guess I was too late to save you any time. So, there you go. But I think you're confused about what the 3-4g is of. That's of EPA and DHA, not the oil itself. So, 10 caps at 1000 mg of oil per cap, as above.

3 miles running and 4 miles walking. My heart rate was low during the run, but the legs were tired. The 16 miles I ran over the last 3 days is the most in a 3-day span for me. When I can do 16 miles after 56 miles on the bike after 1.2 miles swimming consecutively, I'll be ready for the Gator 70.3 in April with FF.

Hahaha, right on. Me too, me too! I can do it, currently, but I'm fairly sure it almost kills me. Wait, your run is 16 miles? Is mine 16 miles? I thought it was 13.. oh noes. Wait, let's see, 56 + 1.2 + 13.1 = 70.3, yeah. So, good news for you, haha. Unless you mean you want to be able to do a bit of an extra run, I dunno. Just gonna stop spamming your journal now. :car:

Yep, it's 13.1 miles. I'm a dunce.

Thanks focus. I took a bit and reviewed the literature and the least recommended is 1 gram all the way up to 4 grams. 2 tablets has only 760 mg of epa/dha so I'll need to take around 8 gels/day to get a little over 3 grams.

I was bored after football practice, and motivated cuz when I came home I stepped on the scale and weighed 226. So, being all motivated and such, I jumped on the bike for 30 minutes. Guess I'll figure a way to work in all the fish oils. Yes, their benefits far outweigh the cost.

Chest/tris, yeah u guessed it, HEAVY, tomorrow followed by another 30 minutes of some type of cardio. We'll see how the strength is. I'll post tomorrow night how I do. Take care, Greg

Another great workout.

WORKOUT

Heavy chest and tri's consisting of bench press, flat bench flyes, close grip bench supersetted with tricep pushdowns then finished up with over head tricep extensions with the 50lb dumbbell.

CARDIO
18 minutes on the stairmaster followed by 16 minutes on the treadmill

Here is my fitday link, I was a little low on calories but was happy with the way they were spread out. Let me know what you think. I increased to 4 fish oils per day and will gradually increase to 6-8/day if I can stand the aftertaste.

The other thing about fish oil caps that don't suck, is they are enterically coated (properly - as in they don't just claim they are) and shouldn't give you the dreaded fish burps. I take my 10 caps all at once, with water, and have never tasted anything, let alone burped it up.

Having said that, no sacrifice, no victory!

Nice work on the improv biking! Like that attitude. :D

Are the ones you take gels? Mine are and I get the fish oil aftertaste in the back of my throat. Let me know where to get the ones you are taking. Thanks!

Yeah, I found the link to them earlier. But, are they gel capsules or something different?

Oh, sorry. Yes, they're soft gel caps. Do fish oil caps come in any other form? They're just treated with something so they break down in your small intestine rather than your stomach. The aim behind which is to avoid the issues that can sometime arise when all that oil is loose in your stomach. Reflux (fish burps), mostly.

WORKOUT

Back/Bi's - dumbbell rows, lat pulldowns, seated pulley rows, straight bar curls and dumbbell curls

CARDIO

10 minutes on stairmaster on level 12, wasn't into it but made myself at least do a little.

Yesterday: not much - just 20 hard minutes on the stationary bike

Today: 1 hard hour on the stationary bike, 2000 yards in the pool using the blue zoomers and concentrating on keeping my legs up and maintaining a steady kick. These zoomers are so stiff, unlike scuba fins, that they really wear out the leg muscles. On the last 1/2 lap, I started to cramp in one calf and had to limp in. Afterwards, 1.5 miles running. Calf cramped up again and I called it a day.

Assessment: I worked my legs hard today with the bike and the swimming with zoomers. Hopefully, this will pay dividends with a stronger kick and better speed in tris (which will continue to be either wetsuit legal fresh water or salt water for the foreseeable future) and, eventually, to be able to swim indefinite distances in fresh water without aids. It is clear to me and my swim coach that although I have strong legs, I don't have strong swim kicking musculature and need to build that up to be a faster, better swimmer to maintain a kick indefinitely. Now, without zoomers, I struggle to go 500 yards in fresh water.

Greg, do you have other cardio machines? The stairmaster has gotta be the most boring cardio machine ever made.

Yep, There is a recumbent bike, treadmill and elliptical. I alternate between them all. I just haven't had use of a stairmaster in years so I'm kind of partial to it right now. I'm also trying to fit in the treadmill so hopefully I can run a 5k in a few months. I've got a recumbent bike at home too so I don't spend much time on it while I'm at the gym.

Hi, I'm Greg and I'm a ........ SCALE WATCHER! Damn, that freakin scale is trying to get the best of me. I'm staying at 226/227 and I just can't seem to get over the hump. But, my body is changing, love handles are shrinking, chest is getting bigger, shoulders getting a little shape etc. So, although the scale isn't moving, I'm actually not letting it get the best of me.

Snacks at night, any good ideas? That has been my problem the last few days. I'll eat great all day, eat a sensible dinner then I get that hunger feeling that creeps in about 9'ish at night. Unfortunately I've been overdoing it. Any ideas for good nighttime snax? I ate a deer hot link (no bun) last night which is far too much, probably 4-500 calories. I'm thinking maybe a couple of slices of turkey and some crackers or something like that.

So, let's here it, night time snack ideas in the 200 calorie range.

Greg, try fruit. I get sweet pangs that I have to fight off but sometimes get the better of me.

Yesterday, 45 hard minutes on stationary bike.

Pool: kicking and breathing training day
200 yards with zoomers.
200 yards kicking backstroke style
200 yards kicking face down
200 yards bilateral breathing with no aids
200 yards left side breathing with no aids

Today: 52 miles on bike, 18.9 mph average. The average was okay, but I didn't feel "peppy". This triathlon training is tough - it is hard to balance training on the bike, run and swim, so I have been focusing on my weak splits and hoping I can pick up the bike again.

Bought a new pair of Speedo Endurance shorts (not the mankini style:speechless:) that I hope will last longer than my triathlon shorts that I sometimes wear and be more streamlined than my surfer shorts.

Do not be afraid of the mankini briefs, do not be afraid no one will laugh at you :laughing2:

If I ever compete they are compulsory. My club colours are black and pink which doesnt help as well.

I was going to ask you if you (and the other swimmers) if they look at this if you have ever tried the water proof ipod covers???

Hmm, thanks for your input, but I'll let you wear the pink mankinis...

As for the Ipod covers, I was just looking at them - I think there was an ad on this forum. BikeSwimLaugh had a thread about these and I know he uses them. I am thinking about getting one before I go crazy swimming one more pool lap.
