Funny things you see in the gym

I'm going to go off on a tangent and say...THere is NOTHING wrong with making noise while you lift. Yelling, clapping, screaming...it's all good...Granted, you are pushing yourself/trying to amp yourself up. I'm totally fine with the occasional scream, but can sympthize with those who experience annoying people constantly moaning.

In fact, if more people pushed themselves and yelled/threw plates around at my gym, I'd feel a lot more content, instead I am surrounded by the sounds of weakness-- every cardio machine going full blast, ****ty Akron music (NOT hip hop), and socializing.

Not so much funny but more sad is when I see young 20 y/o dudes come in and go straight to the dumbbell rack and start whacking out arm curls. I wish I had enough guts to say something to help them out!

couldn't agree more.

and about the farting thing, I fart pretty much every time I'm in the gym. You know you're suppose to flex your abs right? Create some preassure in there. Well, sometimes that results in farting, and that's like ;)

I totally agree - although there's a guy at my gym who used to sound like he was having an orgasm on ever rep of every lift he did on the machines.
There's nothing more off putting for a straight guy that the sound of a man cumming in the same room as him

people lighting up a cigarette between and after sets, it's unbelievable

Yeah, there are like 3 guys in my class who I see smoking fight after their workout. At least it's better than smoking and NOT working out, but come on? Isn't the whole point to be as healthy as possible?

WTF? Where do you live? In the UK you're not even allowed to smoke in bars or clubs, the idea of a gym/health club allowing smoking is crazy

In California it's illegal to smoke indoors at any public place. I don't know about the rest of the US though.

China, haha. I moved here from the states a couple of months ago or so. They're isn't a single place where smoking isn't allowed here...the gym I go to is a small place in a building, so the guys light it up right in the doorway or in the hallway, it's ridiculous...

Oh, I heard China was bad with the whole smoking thing. That's terrible. How can one work out with smoke in the room? In Nevada smoking is allowed in restaurants and bars (I think they're working on changing that). It was terrible having to eat in the same room as someone smoking. I can't imagine working out with it.

It's awful. Luckily (technically) it's not supposed to be allowed in the actual room, but sometimes the smoke/smell still creeps in from the hall, I usually gravitate toward the window...they're isn't much of a choice, it's China

I can't tell you how many different variations of the lat pulldown I've seen. I'm not here to explain how wrong some of them were, but to comment on the question of advising these people that need some help.

I was using the college gym, and I was working on the cable rack machine, doing the tricep pushdowns. (sorry for not ussing proper lingo, I promise I know how to do the exercises), and next to me was this cute girl doing the lat pulldowns. Her form wasn't digusting, but I saw room for correction, and I wanted to meet this girl.
I said, "hi, excuse me, I saw soemthing while you were doing your pulldowns, would you like a little advice".
She simply said, "yeah, sure"
Me, "when you pull the bar down bring it straight to your chest, not your legs, and when your coming down pinch your shoulder blades together. It will work a lot better that way"
I showed her what I was talking about and wham, a new friend.

Yeah, girls are usually more likley to take your advice with a smile than guys.

Smoking is illegal indoors everywhere bar/club/restaurant in MN except the casino but thats a different story...I see people smoking right before they come in and just laugh.

Cell phones are another thing, I saw this girl who was on the treadmill but every two minutes she would get off to talk on her phone....ummm ok?

Two things down at the gym tonight:

1) This guy was doing his whole workout with sunglasses on at 8pm in and indoor gym.

2) Not really funny, but there were these two guys doing various ab exercises. One was way overweight and not going to see those abs for a loooong time and one was lean and muscular. The lean one is giving the other one instructions and kind of strutting around like he was something special. So his friend is doing hanging ab raises and the lean guy looks in the mirror, raises his shirt, and has the most smug look on his face, looks at his abs and winks at himself in the mirror. I wanted to punch this guy.

about the screaming thing, if people did real exercises, like deads, squats, bench, or actually used weight and did less than a 20 rep, screaming would be okay. But I can't stand people screaming while doing curls and using their whole body to complete the lift.
