Default Julie's food & exercise journal

Today, I think I did pretty well.
- oatmeal with chocolate
- some veggies (peas & green beans) with sweet and sour sauce and smart rice (another body & fit product, and pretty good. It's only 7-9 kcal per 100 g. It's mostly made out of konjac, an Asian plant).
- a puff pastry with tomato and pepper with salad and some veggies
- 2 chokotoffs

Exercise:
- one hour of cycling

I've recently added a supplement to my diet, weed grass powder, which could help with weight loss. I initially bought it because an Irish guy I met on vacation told me it would help with my brain fog. I looked it up again and I didn't find anything on it being useful against brain fog (bad memory & concentration problems), but the sites say it does have a range of other (potential) benefits. Potential, cause more testing needs to be done. Like the weight loss thing, that hasn't been proven. We'll see. I do notice I feel a bit jolly after I've just taken it. So that's good :)

Hey @JuliePulie :)
I am kind of far from your first message here, but I am curious- have you ever tried any diet or special meal plan prepared just for your needs?
It is really important to listen to your organism and give whatever it needs (in a healthy way).
If you can't stop eating fatty, and fast prepared food, there is for sure something that your body needs but can't get (like vitamins or minerals). This is a normal reaction to lack of some nutrients. So, in my opinion, the first and good step would be to contact a good nutritionist and really focus on you to find where is the problem and how to fix it :)
That is the right way to stay in tune with yourself and everything that your body truly needs. It isn't a quick and easy way but for sure it is effective.

I live in Austria.

:) I hope you mean wheat grass powder. So gross! All kinds of miraculous claims attached though.
European high five!
Yes, wheat grass powder! I think it kind of tastes like grass or how I imagine grass to taste like. Cause I've never eaten grass to my knowledge:)

Hi FoodC,
No, I've never tried that. Thing is doctors always tell me lately I'm healthy as could be. Everything's good, they say, my cholesterol and iron, my weight, etc. So for me losing weight has always been like a diy-thingy. To experiment and see what works. I'd like to have the perfect body, sometimes, most of the times, but maybe not bad enough to actually make it so. I think that's my main enemy in my path to weight loss. I guess I don't want it bad enough... I also think nutritionists might be quite expensive. I don't know. Do you think they can help me with my brain fog too? I think I might go to a psychologist for that. And for other stuff. I've been bottling up some stuff I should probably deal with.

So. Not a good day today.
I had a bicycle accident. Riding my racing bike and all of the sudden a guy opened his car door. Wham, I hardly even know what happens, my bike smashes into it, I flip over, smack onto the ground. I yelled so hard then, partially because of the pain, partially because I think my lungs were testing if they still worked. The sound didn't sound like me. A very bizarre moment. It took a little while before I could stand but when i did there was a cop and almost immediately an ambulance car to take me to ER. I was calm then, but so cold and I had the feeling something was seriously wrong. In the hospital I had to cry all of the sudden. Embarrassing, but I couldn't help it. I was shaking all over. When I was waiting for the doctors to take a picture, I talked to a guy there, another patient. He told me he fell off a roof three storeys down. That his arm was totally crushed. He had this bionic thing on his arm. He said I'll be fine and that he's worse off. That he's been in the hospital for two weeks and his 3y old son was upset with him and wouldn't talk to him. And some other random shit about how he once went to London but immediately returned because he was questioned rather harshly. It wasn't long after terrorist attacks there and he looks Middle Eastern. Anyway, I felt like being in an episode of Greys anatomy or ER. Me being one of the crazy patients.
So yeah, long story short (sorry, can't sleep): I have a cracked rib. I won't be doing many sports the following days, and maybe weeks :( I can go on walks.. but it could have been worse!

Oh, what a barbarian, the man who opened his car door without looking. I am so sorry that this happened, and I hope the man involved - hope the police were on him right away, and that he will suffer some serious consequences. Could it come under criminal negligence? He should suffer penalty - licence suspension? But also of course should be liable for your medical bills and any other financial damage.

I'm really sorry - and sorry you can't sleep.

Hi Julie,

As a fellow cyclist I’m sorry this happened to you. Don’t let it get you down though and certainly don’t let it stop you getting on the bike.

we need to be very careful in Traffic and always on the look out for stupidity.

hopefully you recover quickly and are back to your normal self!

I´m glad to hear the police arrived without you having to insist on calling them. People opening their car doors without looking is quite a common cause of bike accidents in urban areas, sadly. People just don´t think! No need to be embarrassed about crying at the hospital; that´s just shock. Very glad to hear you weren´t more badly hurt! A cracked rib sucks and takes a while to heal but they DO usually heal up very well. Speedy recovery and I hope the frustration of not being able to move painlessly doesn´t lead to stuffing your face (like it usually does for me).

Sure you can be healthy but at the same time, your organism can starving because of lack of vitamins and minerals. And brain fog can be one of symptom of this process.
A nutritionist can help you with making a special diet just for your needs to fill you up with nutrients. I had a tone of patients like you and after 2 months they felt completely different- better. Healthy and clean food is your fuel.
I bet if you would go from California to Florida by car with 30% of the fuel you wouldn't finish your trip and you wouldn't achieve your goal. The same is with your body. If you will try to go all your life with processed food it will badly affect your body and you will have trouble with achieving your goals (as body shape, well being, efficiency).
It is super important to know how to eat and to eat the least processed food.
Try to eat colorful meals (you can get colors from veggies and fruits) :)

Hey Julie, I have been on vacation with limited ability to check in. Now that I am back I see your accident. I hope you are ok.

Check in and let us know, I always like seeing your posts. Hope all is well!

Hi @aiminglow, @Cate, @alligatorob, @LaMaria and @Truffle Monster :
Thank you for your sweet messages! I still read them back then and they really helped me. I was so emotional after that accident:)
It took a long time to heal although after a week the pain was significantly less intense. But I still feel it now for example when I do crunches. Sit-ups are a no-go. During those weeks of recovering, I walked quite a bit. But the past weeks I've gotten into running and cycling again. Corona days. Got more time to do sports. But also more time to eat snacks :p my weight has been stable only because I do lots of running and cycling. I hope restarting rhis diary again can motivate me to do better.

So todayyy. Loads of walking. From and to the train station and on a hike with friends. Google fit says I walked 15k.
But the food... Not so good
- tuna sandwich
- piece of vegan almond cake
- (big) glass of aperol spritz
- cabbage soup with chickpea croutons, and cucumber with baba ganoush.
-oatmeal with rice milk

I'm glad you have recovered, hon. Your food sounds good to me. A 15 km walk is pretty awesome. Take good care of yourself xo

Hey Julie, good to see you posting again! Also happy to hear about your recovery.

I agree with Cate, your food doesn't look bad to me.

I am impressed with your 15 km walk, I have been walking a lot but not gotten to 15 km yet. Today I did 13 km, my longest so far.

Stick with us, you add value to our forum!

You seem to be in a mountainous area so 13k over there is like 30k over here :D
It's so flat in Belgium. No mountains for us. Too bad, 'cause I love them.

It was hard to motivate me to go cycling today, because the weather wasn't good and I had one of these extremely lazy sundays. But I'm glad I went. Cycled 2 hours and a half at a pace of 20km per hour. I was planning to make healthy Indian food afterwards, but the last half hour of cycling all I could think about was pizza, haha... Note to myself: prep your meal before doing sports :)

- Oatmeal with rice milk
- sandwich with a veggie patty
- Pizza mozzarella
- snacks: a carrot, a banana, and a sesame bar

Looks like you didn't eat a ton before going cycling so maybe your body needed something higher-calorie to make up for the 800-1200 or so extra calories burned (don't know how fast you biked).
