I find sweet snacks, other than fruit, have me desperately craving more. I love hearing about your walks & the benefits you are all experiencing. Your dogs would be loving them. I miss having a dog.

Me too.

Brilliant report, Pam! Especially - well, it's all good, getting to 9% is terrific! - but the resilience of Nathan in shaking off the infection was really great to read.
And everyone getting stronger and healthier all at once! And now I'm having visions of a muscled-up Bernese mountain dog in the snow... which really sounds like a challenge coming up! On the other hand - could you harness a sled? ;)

I´ve seen people harnessing Rottweilers so little carts and sleds; some dogs love pulling and it´s a great way to power them out.

Thanks Rob and LaMaria and Cate and Amy. We are enjoying our walks. Yesterday’s walk was cancelled. It was overcast and rain was not in the forecast, but we could feel the drops starting to come down and decided to call it off. Then plans changed with his Dad and I ended up not going to the gym. My spirits tank when I have a shitty workout or none at all, and yesterday was no exception. But today is a new day and we completed our walk and the gym is a definite so I’ll feel back on track.

I’d like to pick the pace up on the weight loss. The snack has got to go. “Fantasy dream slim” me at my goal weight can’t afford to have that snack much more than once a week, sad but true. It’s gotta go. Not today though. :rotflmao:

My spirits tank when I can't get my walk in now. Your yesterday is now my today. It's cold & wet & a thoroughly miserable day :(
Glad you got your walk in today, though. I did yesterday xo

Is there a lower calories snack you could replace it with? I know you said your teeth don't like jerky, but the jerky I just got is kind of ground up and pressed into little patties, not hard to chew. There must be other options.

For me snacks are an important part of my diet, but I am not going the low carb route, so most of my snacks are fruit and probably wouldn't work for you. One thing I do have occasionally is blue cheese, I had it last night. I buy a few ounces of a strong variety and put it in a small bowl. I then only eat a little, small shards at a time, the flavor is great even a very small crumble has a lot of flavor. I do it slowly so it takes a while. I weigh the bowl before and after to get calories, I am usually under 1 ounce eaten. That's something that would fit your low carb diet.

LOL; it's good that you are aware that the snack has to go at some point to get to your goal weight.

Don't make it too tough on yourself, with the "snack's gotta go"! What sort of snack is it? Maybe we can all put our collective brains together ( as per Alligatorob) to find something that will work as a substitute.

Ugh. The scale reads 222 this morning, up 3 pounds!! :argue: I’m feeling bloated and a bit constipated to be honest, but REALLY!?

Yeah, that snack. Ended up having an extra yesterday, but total calories were still under 1400 and I know I’m losing weight. My ass, belly, hips, and boobs especially. Also the legs and chin. :rotflmao: Haha, kind of everywhere. I don’t know what’s going on, I’m about to go for a walk and then today is a gym day so I’ll get to work out some frustration there.

I have a Dr appt on Tuesday. My depression has been worse even with all the exercise, I think she is probably going to start me on some medication. Most of them make me feel fatigued all the time and gain weight, I’ll just have to muddle through the best I can. Hey, at least I’ll get an accurate weight. :rotflmao:And maybe we’ll luck on to a good med and I will start to feel a bit better about things.

The bright spot of the week is that the pool will reopen on Monday, Nate and I will both be thrilled. Hope everyone has a great weekend. :waving:

Congrats on losing 6 pounds! Every little bit counts so don't get discouraged. Just from my personal journey, I was able to lose 40 pounds in 3 months by:
  • drinking red tea 2x per day (you can learn more about it spam link removed, but it boosts metabolism & helps get rid of fat cells)
  • vegetarian diet (it's easy, I promise)
  • daily workouts. When I say daily workouts, sometimes it consisted of me going to the gym, and other days when I was busy I would just walk up and down the stairs like 50 times throughout the day. People underestimate the power of their staircase because this is a great cardio workout.
I wish you the best of luck on your journey! I look forward to hearing more from you in the future!

They are on leashes for the first part of the walk, until we get off the “main” road. It is very rural and honestly we generally see NO ONE the entire hour. Like, once in the past week a car has gone by.

Once we turn down the road where we do most of our walking, I let them go off leash. They are puppies. The cocker spaniel is 13 months and the BMd is 10 months. Walking in the country has been wonderful, because they don’t get out their energy with short walks around town and they’ve been much happier and better behaved dogs.

It’s easier (and safer) for them and me to keep them on the leash. But they pull — the big one can literally pull a ton of weight. Off leash they run around and explore the ditches but mostly stay within 100 yards of me. When he hit me he was off leash and came up behind me. Never happened before. So our country walk is a nice mix of activity for them, they get about a mile of leash training and another mile or more of running and exploring.

Our country walks have translated into calmer walks around town since we started. Their energy is a bit diluted, and I’ve been working on the pulling. 2 males and both want to be first! I think @Truffle Monster was admiring my country road because of his own dog issues, and it has been a blessing. Just SO many distractions around town, and he can be a puller.

Yes it was certainly me admiring your road.

Personally knowing what I know about and experiencing what I’ve experienced with dogs I would never let my dogs off leash ever (regardless of the dogs temperament). It’s rarely YOUR dog you need to worry about but the reactive dog with no recall training belonging to the completely clueless guy 300m away who’s not even watching.

I use a 30m long line (originally buses for horses I believe) so my dog can still run around and I just follow giving as much or little line as needed but so that if another dog comes barreling in I’ve still got control of the situation.

1 in 4 domestic dogs suffer some form of anxiety disorder or fear based reactivity (most remain undiagnosed and/or untreated) so I don’t like those odds. My dog is one of 25% but she’s well managed and well treated. If however an off leash dog approaches her it’s all over for that dog if I can’t intervene (hence the long line).

I’m rambling a bit here but my general point is there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having an off leash dog if you’re well aware of the risks involved and are capable of intervening should something go wrong (a reactive off leash dog could well chase yours hundreds of metres away, catch and injure/kill it).

Obviously that’s worst case scenario.

The fantastic side of off leash for dogs is it gives them a chance to just be dogs. Dogs sense the world around them by smell not sight. The mental stimulation they get from sniffing and shuffling around the grass, mud, leaves etc does absolute wonders for them (like a human walking through a rainforest looking at the beautiful trees etc).

Hi, Pam. I'll be interested to hear what meds you are prescribed. Hopefully, it will be a very low dose to start off with & that will be enough. Good for you knowing that you need help & taking the right steps xoxo

Bright spot of the day — wasn’t going to even take pics but I finally think I can see a change in the mid section.

I’ve gotta be the only one who can eat under 1,500 calories and exercise almost every day for 40 days and lose only 5 pounds. :rotflmao:

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. Can’t wait to see the 60 day pics!

Thanks for the photos, you are easy to look at! I am sure I can see a difference, particularly in your profile from day 21 to 41. Stick with this, your weight will come down, you'll find a way.

Oh, definitely a difference! Very well done!
