Hi cowboy! Great job on the marathon :hurray:, especially considering the weather.

You're doing amazing, don't worry about missing your workout yesterday, its good to have a rest day here and there anyway and you probably burned some calories changing that tire! I think the half marathon for your b-day sounds like a great idea, it will probably feel like your best and most accomplished birthday yet.

Hope you have a good day!

Thanks, Janvier. Yeah I really needed a rest day on Monday. Run took all my energy and more. Funny thing was - I have been running 10K for a while now but running on ice is different. Can't really stride more like running with teeny tiny steps so you don't fall-lol. Sapped my energy though big time. I am not sure about the 1/2 marathon- I am not sure if my 50 year old body will hold up in the training part-lol. I have to really think about it. Too many goals being met so I am kind of lost right now-haha. Thanks for stopping by!!

Cowboy - what an amazing b-day gift to yourself if you decide to run the 1/2 marathon! It would certainly be memorable too.

Perhaps you can do another 10k when the weather is better to see how you feel after. And then do a longer run once a wekk until you build up to the 13.2 miles on your own.

You have given me the bug - maybe I'll aim for a 1/2 marathon or full marathon for my 40th (gives me roughly a year and a half). I've decided that I want to do it at least once in my life - and what better time than now to set that goal.

Thank you. I am not sure if I am going to do it but I am leaning towards it anyway. I thought about doing another 10K first like you suggested - on dry pavement for a change- lol. Just to see how my time would be so that is a possibility. One day maybe next month, I want to go out on the trails and just run- to see how far I can actually get. I feel sometimes I can run for a lot longer than I do but other days...

I am glad you have the bug-lol. I have had it for a while. Running to me is quite relaxing- just me, my iPod and the road. I can just put it into autodrive and be lost in my thoughts. Very therapeutic - at least for me. Good for you for setting goals. I find setting goals especially for running is important- it give me something to shoot for. You can do a marathon for sure. That has been in the back of my mind too- I would love to run a marathon and finish, just once. I am not sure though- 50 is getting up there and I don't know if my body can handle all the road work and the pounding on the joints. If I was your age- I would definitely do it. Good Luck!!

Good Thursday Morning,

Well I am tired. Just tired-lol. That run on Sunday just took all of my energy. I have upped my protein and upped the calories a little to try and compensate but it doesn't seem to be helping. Yesterday was my rest day after the 6K run and 1 hour bootcamp right after but circumstances said otherwise. I was meeting my wife as she had to work late and I had to get my youngest son and take him home. He had something after school so I had to waste some time in town ( I live on an acreage outside of town) so I went to the gym. I ran my today schedule of 5K tempo and thought I would take today off. Well that is not going to happen either as I have to the same scenario tonight-lol. I will hit the gym and do my weight traiing and take tomorrow off. No wonder I am so tired-lol.

Eating was good again. Used to be when I snacked it was on pretzels, ( which aren't too bad for you) popcorn, and chips. I am not really a chocolate person - more of a salty snack kind of guy. I had a snack yesterday - three teaspoons of Greek yogurt- 3 of fat free vanilla yogurt mixed together with Bran Buds. Man I have come a long way-LMAO. Lots of protein in the greek yogurt but hard to get down - especially since I use the fat free unflavored stuff. I was hoping it would help with my fatigue but no such luck.

I am still feeling it this morning but I will power through. That is it for today.

Have a Great Thursday!!

I love the ff plain greek yogurt - but you need to buy some natural honey and put a generous amount on top. Or, you can buy the kind that has the honey pack on the side (but avoid the honey flavored kind). That is the ONLY way I can eat it :)

Congrats on the 10K - that was a great time!!

Thanks. I have run faster but the ice put the brakes on good times on Sunday-lol. I am satisfied with the time considering. I never thought about putting honey in it- that would help. I think it is not so much the taste but the thickness is what makes it hard to get down. It helps with the ff vanilla yogurt mixed in but I will try with the honey. Thanks for the tip!!

Well no wonder you are tired! You probably took twice as many steps on that run than you usually do for a 10K. So really I think it's more like you ran a 20k, right?

That is how I actually felt anyway-lol. I found the race route they were going to use and thought I would use that to train on. I ran on that trail every Sunday for 6 weeks but the conditions on that day were the worst I have ever run on to that point. Oh well, it is done now. They still haven't posted the official time so I am waiting for that. I guess I have already run my 1/2 marathon then, right?

Happy Thursday Cowboy,

I know that tired feeling that lingers all day, I hope your found an energy boost somewhere and I hope you're feeling a little less tired. Great choice of going to the gym when you had time to kill and great choice for your snack as well. Really shows that you have made huge changes in your life hasn't it? Keep working hard, you're doing great and thank you for all of your support in my diary!

Hi Janvier,

Right back at you - thanks for your support in my diary too. I am feeling better today. The extra protein I have been eating has helped. It is nice to know now when I am feeling snackish-lol that I won't dive into a bag of chips. Thanks for stopping by!!

Good Friday Morning,

Well, yesterday's workout at the gym was good. It was weight training day so no running. I know that I am not supposed to run and I didn't but I always feel different on the days I don't run- if that makes sense, I guess I miss it if only for that day. Oh well, today is my day off - finally. I need the rest- I am feeling better but still not 100%. I still can't believe what that run took out of me. Speaking of the run- the results were posted yesterday. Here is how I did:

Time : 58:15
103 out of 403 runners ( overall)
11 out of 34 in my age category(40-49)- male.

I was quite happy to tell you the truth. There were a lot of skinny younger males out there that I beat-OH YEAHH-LOL. I am not usually competitive but this is bringing it out. I know I could have posted a better time but considering the conditions, still quite happy. Plus, I am at the upper limit of the age category. If this race had of been in a few months- I would have placed 6th in my age category. I guess it is not too bad for my first official run.

Still toying with the idea of running a 1/2 marathon. Haven't made up my mind yet but I am leaning towards it.

Food was good again yesterday. Still snacking on ff greek yogurt-lol. Like I said I am the kind of guy that can eat the same thing day after day. Weekend is near. I hope everyone has a great one!!

I think you would do awesome at a half marathon - especially if the running conditions are ideal instead of crappy. You practically ran one already with this 10K IMO!

Have a happy Friday and a great weekend!

Happy Friday Cowboy!

Those are great results! You did an amazing job :hurray:. I'm glad you have a rest day today, you must really need it to regain some energy. Great job with eating well all day too, I'm just like you, I can eat the same thing day in and day out, and if I do get sick of it- which is rare- or I happen to find a delicious replacement I stick to that until the next yummy discovery comes along lol. Sometimes consistancy is key. Have an amazing rest day and weekend!

I don't know if these tired bones are up to it though-lol. Although you are right- I actually didn't feel like I ran a 1/2 marathon, I actually felt like I ran a full marathon-haha. You have a great weekend as well!

Thanks, Janvier. Yeah, I have been eating the exact same breakfast for 6 months now- drives my wife nuts-LOL. Thanks for all your support! You have an amazing weekend too!!

You did fantastic!! I am so happy that your race went well! All your training has really paid off! And everytime I step on the treadmill, I think of you and wonder, "how'd his race go?" hehehe

I can't wait to catch up on your diary more!! :)

I hope the weekend treated you well! (And it's still WAY too cold here to run outside :D )

TIK!! How are you? I was getting worried about you-lol. Hadn't seen you around for a while. Thought maybe the weight loss thing was getting to you. I didn't think anything could stop your enthusiasm for it and reading your posting in your diary- confirmed my belief-haha. I understand about the school stuff and everything else - makes a person busy. Nice to see it hasn't sabotaged the weight loss for you though- GOOD FOR YOU!!

Thanks for your kind words. Run was okay- icier than I would have wanted it but everyone ran in the same conditions. My time could have been better but I am happy considering.

I have been debating my next goal. I am almost at my weight loss goal- 6 pounds to go and I met my running goal so I needed something else to strive to. I think I am going to run a 1/2 marathon. At least I have been thinking about it. I am not sure yet but I have been reading up on it - just to make sure I am not too old and feeble-lol.

Anyway, I am glad you are back. I am going to go visit your diary right now.

Good Monday Morning,

This was an interesting weekend for me. Started on Friday when the eavestrough on my house all came down. The weather here has been unbelievable even for us. We have had lots of snow and lots of temp variation. So the eavestrough was full of ice. We think what happened was a chunk of snow fell off the roof hitting the eavestrough and pulling it down. Anyway, that was the start of my weekend.

After my run last weekend I am still feeling it- muscles were sore and just didn't feel like myself. Friday was my eventual day off last week after all my other days at the gym. Saturday I usually run 3K and then yesterday is my long run day. Now I am done my training for the 10K and I am still debating what to do for my next goal so I don't really have a training schedule anymore. So Saturday, I rested as well. Sunday was my mother in law's 75th birthday so we took her out to brunch ( don't worry, I was good-lol). I did eat more than I would normally eat for breakfast and lunch but wasn't hungry for supper so the brunch is all I ate for the day. So why am I telling you all this-lol? Well, considering that I was still tired from last week and full from brunch- I took my long run day off too. There I said it - whew!! I feel better now-lol.

I started this weight loss at the end of August last year. I have been faithful to a fault on my eating and my training. I don't think I have ever deviated from my schedule. Well, I did this weekend. I feel kind of guilty but I am feeling more rested and ready to hit the next phase of my training now though so maybe I should just forgive myself and move on.

New beginnings!! I do love a new goal. Unfortunately, I don't know for sure what that is-lol. I am going to continue on the old training schedule starting today until I figure out what I am going to do.

That is it for today. I hope everyone has a Great Monday!!
