Hey Cory,
Good job on Zumba! I went a couple of times when I was on a cruise...I didn't know the dances, and it was not my style...so I stayed on the elliptical! Glad to know your foot is not hurting (as she is sitting here typing with her own foot elevated with ice to drive down the swelling from the stress fracture!). Keep making the good choices and you will see the scale move and your little turtle ticker scoot right!
Sarah

I really hope your foot starts feeling better. It seems like you've been wrestling with it for a while. :/

Did zumba again tonight. My foot fatigued a bit quicker today than it did on Tuesday, but I don't think it's anything an advil and some sleep won't fix. Food was good today. Had oatmeal and a peach, leftover soup with some sugar snap peas, and I made tikka masala for dinner. I also put another single serving peach crisp in the oven because I had some calories to spare today.

I find that I LIKE feeling like I can have dessert. When I'm not trying to watch what I eat, half the time I don't even care about dessert. That all changes when I'm back on the wagon. It's ok though because I've found a few single serving type recipes. This means I can make ONE cupcake, or ONE serving of peach crisp. That way I can have a taste that's only a couple hundred calories and I don't have a bunch just sitting there tempting me to eat it. It makes me feel like I'm not depriving myself of things that I like.

Also, as of tomorrow I will have been soda free for two weeks. :D

Good job with the food! Doesn't the feeling of control feel so great? I was proud of myself last night cuz I came home having a craving attack wanting to eat everything and I just ate a few bites of chicken breast instead! I don't like and try not to eat that late, but if your gonna do it a little chicken is the way to go a couple months back I would've been en route to a restaurant and getting something greasy and fatty and mowing down lol/ :)

I love zumba its so much fun! I haven't done it alot and I def don't know all the moves but I have this stupid smile on my face the entire time and it really makes you sweat!

I like my desserts too. There's actually supposedly a little bit of science behind the concept. Your blood sugar tends to crash after a large meal like dinner. A little bit of something sweet half an hour to an hour after may help avoid the crash (and the resulting desire to snack).

Good job on the (almost) two weeks free of soda! To me, If feels like if it was yesterday when it was only 1 day...

You seem to be doing well, just be careful with the foot! Good luck! :)

Edit: Wow... I almost burned my rice while writing this... :biggrinjester:

I agree with athala! Good job on no sodas! I'm convinced sodas (diet or normal) are a big part of what is driving obesity up in the world...either high fructose corn syrup in the normal type or sorbitol in the diet is bad for the body, and reeks havoc on the blood sugar systems! Ok, off my soap box! Good job Cory and keep it up!

Hey Cory.....good idea with the one serving on desert! I hate having the desert sitting there calling my name...tempting me! Great job on the Zumba and I am glad you are not having pain!!!! I love those peas when they are garden fresh so good I eat them raw!!!!

Just a quick update. I supposedly gained three pounds over the last week, but I'd say it's water weight. Between my diet and exercise last week, it's impossible that I gained. I suspect that because I've been exercising again, my hormones are adjusting (I have PCOS) and I'm actually starting another period even though I JUST had one.

Also, went pretty heavy on the food tonight, but it happens sometimes. I was craving red meat and ate way too much of it. However, that might mean that I needed something it has to offer.

Hey Cory! I'm with you, I don't ever skip out on dessert if I want it either. My trick is baking things I like, and then immediately wrapping up individual servings and shoving the goodies in the freezer. I've got muffins, zucchini bread, banana bread, baked donuts, and homemade granola bars in there right now! Most mornings I explore the freezer and pick out one yummy treat for the day :) Now I just gotta figure out what to do about those salty cravings...

Hey Cory

Each craving is our bodies way of telling us it needs something....maybe you needed protein or iron! Good job on all that exercise!!!

Hey folks. Sorry I have't been around much this week. I think I got some kind of stomach flu or something and it's stuck with me for A WHILE. I'm finally starting to feel better though. Going to visit relatives (with no internet) over the weekend, but I'll be back on Monday and ready for some action!

No internet! Welcome to 1988, they were simpler times. Filled with hair spray and bright eyeshadow applied with a paint brush. And those were the guys.

Mr. Vee....you wouldn't be talking about David Bowie, or Boy George would you?

Good news, folks! I'm finally better from my stomach bug. It only took a week. The weekend was pretty bad as far as my food is concerned. I did have a soda and way too big portions, but we were celebrating my uncle being alive and out of his coma so I'm going to let it go. I had bacon and eggs with some cantaloupe for breakfast today to christen my new cast iron skillet, but I'll go a bit lighter for lunch and dinner. Also, today is the first day of fitness classes, so that's an exciting thing. I wish I could report how much I gained or lost last week, but because I went to visit my family, I didn't have access to the scale I usually use so I just let it go.

Good job on jumping back into wagon!!! glad you are feeling better and ready to dance yourself to a heathier you!!!!

Hi Cory, welcome home! :)

Sounds like you actually did a very smart thing by having your "big" meal in the morning. At least you had all day to move around and try to burn it off. I'm sure it didn't hurt a thing. I'm so happy that your uncle is doing well. Cherish your family time together. One thing I've learned over the last couple of weeks is how short and how precious life is, especially when it comes to family!

^^Agree... I find you can get away with eating more calories if you eat them in the morning and taper off as the day goes on...

Hey everyone. Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m still trucking along, even if I haven’t been as present on this website. I can’t seem to find any time, but this forum has provided a lot of support and motivation. In the coming weeks/months I definitely want to be more active here again.

I’ve managed to maintain through the holidays, which is good, and I’m frankly relieved that they’re all said and done with. Have you noticed how no one ever offers you a Christmas carrot stick? :p Currently I’m attempting to recover from the flu, so I haven’t been exercising the last couple weeks. I’m feeling much better though. I plan to go back to the gym as soon as my cough clears up. I hope everyone else is well!

Thanks, MrVee!

Ok, so yesterday was good. I had grapefruit for breakfast. It's one of the things I love about winter because it's in season. I had leftover pot roast with mashed parsnips and roasted broccoli for lunch and dinner was this Mediterranean stew that has peas, okra, and lamb in it. It was really good. I did eat a cupcake, but I had room for it so it's ok.

I think today will be better than yesterday. I'm going to have my green shake this morning, which always makes me feel good for the rest of the day. Lunch will be leftover stew. I'm thinking I'll go and get some fish from the market today and do a steamed fish with black bean sauce for dinner.

Coming back from the holidays with renewed motivation has allowed me to think about some things, particularly what I need to do differently this year from last year. I maybe didn't lose as much weight as I wanted to, but such is life. I would categorize the year as a success though. I learned a lot of things and changed my viewpoint on a lot of things too. The strides I've made with food choices and exercise have been phenomenal. I want this year to be a success too. Here are some of my goals:

1. Be more realistic about consumption of starches. While I've done well on cutting back on sweets and sodas, upping my water intake, eating more veggies, etc, I still eat too many starches. It's very easy to trick myself into thinking I'm only eating one or two servings when I'm actually eating three or four. This is better than it used to be, but it's something I want to work on this year.
2. Be soda free, excepting special occasions. I can't seem to do it half way. I'm either not drinking sodas or I'm drinking four a day. I think I just need to not drink them outside of birthdays and parties.
3. Challenge myself physically. While I've done a lot of work in teaching myself to enjoy exercise, it's really easy to get comfortable in what I'm doing. All I did the last four or five months was zumba. Zumba is better than nothing, but you get more bang for your buck if you vary the routine a bit.
