Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

Hi Cory, hope you got some exercise in. Have you gone to Zumba classes before. I absolutely loved it, but it didn't love me. It's the only thing I have tried that was just too hard on my body. I hated giving it up, but didn't miss the pain. I think one of the best things that we all can do is to stop thinking that food should be a reward. The brain is a wondrous thing, but you have to wonder at our brains sometimes. I react to an increase on the scales with an urge to eat something bad. It makes no sense whatsoever! Hope the humidity decreases & you are able to get out for a walk. Cheers, Cate

Hi Cory, just said I'd drop by. You have inspired me to go to zumba class tomorrow night. I was going regularly with a friend a few months ago, but for some reason, I just didn't keep it up. Which is so sad, because it was also a social outlet for me. But I do find classes harder than just going for a run or walk myself, because there's mirrors everywhere! But I am going to ignore all that and go tomorrow evening. So thanks for the inspiration, and keep up the good work!

I also find it interesting to hear about the fresh meat like deer you get. It's another perspective on food and eating!

Hey Cory,
Glad you celebrated...and even more glad you are now back on track!
Start back your good choices and get refocused and let's knock out those next pounds!
Sarah

Cate, I have done zumba before. Last semester I probably did it 2 or 3 times a week and LOVED it.

emmarose, I actually find exercising by myself much harder to do. It's a lot easier for me to push myself and stick with it if all I have to do is show up and then do whatever the person in charge tells me to do. And it's motivating to watch myself jiggle around in the mirrors. :p

Today has been pretty good. I had oatmeal and cherries for breakfast, thai peanut noodles with apple and sugar snap peas for lunch, and will have roasted salmon and veggies for dinner tonight. I don't usually buy fish that isn't on manager's special, but I was REALLY in the mood for it tonight so I bought some anyways. I think I will make dessert tonight too. I should have enough calories leftover. I bought a couple of plums at the market today, so I'll bake them with some honey and cinnamon and eat it with a scoop of ice cream. Yum!

I also took a 20 minute walk today, which was nice. Nothing too vigorous, but I hate exercising in my apartment and it sucks outside right now. I can't wait until school starts back up and I'll actually have somewhere to go exercise for an hour a day. I miss that kind of regular activity. Zumba tomorrow!

Hi Cory, reading what you ate today (yesterday?) made me feel hungry. Oh yum! I have a feeling the Zumba class I went to may not have been the best. Either that or I am too competitive. When someone says "do the best you can or only do what suits you", I don't hear that. I hear "do as well or better than anyone else in the room, even if they are only half your age (or less)." I would love to go to a dance class again. It was so much fun, it was the pain I didn't like. Cheers for now xo Cate

Love your food choices Cory, sounds really good and healthy! Excellent choices, and a good 20 min walk too!! Sounds like a great day!

Keep up the great choices!
Sarah

Just had to post before I go to zumba. I'm feeling a bit anxious. This'll be this first major exercise I've had since I injured my ankle. The doc says it's ok, but I'm nervous because it's still a bit tender. He told me to listen to my body. I'll just be honest and say that has never been my strong point.

I've had the same nerves since I started jogging for the first time about a month and a half ago.

But you can sort of keep some focus on how the trouble areas feel. I think worst case scenario is it gets a little sore and you have to stop.

I'm sure you're nervous. Just take it slow at least for your first session just to get a feel for it again. If your foot acts just slow down or stop altogether and rest. Good luck! :)

Zumba was great! I'm really relieved. 90% of the moves were fine and now I know which 10% to avoid (mostly salsaing, oddly enough). I'm also happy to note that it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I figured my last two months of inactivity would have taken more of a toll on my fitness than it did. I won't say I'm where I was at the end of school, but I'm certainly not back to where I started. It also makes me look even more forward to school starting so I can do those classes. The classes at the rec center are nice (and probably appropriate for my foot right now), but it's mostly older ladies who go there. Even gimpy and all crippled up, I had more pep than anyone else in the room. :p

My food was good today too. I had oatmeal and cherries for breakfast, leftover salmon with sugar snap peas and a peach for lunch, and then curried squash soup with some chicken and rice thrown in for dinner. I also made a single serving peach crisp by cutting a peach in half and sprinkling it with crisp topping, then baking it. So. Good. And completely within my calorie allotment for the day.

Your food always sounds sooooo yummy!! I'm glad your zumba class went well and that your foot handled it well. Looks like you're well on your way to being officially soda free again which is awesome!! :)

Food sounds great the baked peach crisp sounds delish! I find that its mostly older ladies at the rec centre classes too but the one's in my area are monsters lol their like the fit moms army.... motivation to keep going I wanna be fit and look great now and as I get older! No reason to let yourself go... and every reason not too!

Mmm... your peach crisp make me want apple crisp..lol. Your food sounds great! Also glad to hear the zumba went well! :)

I'm glad your zumba went well. I have a vague idea of what zumba is, but I like my imaginary version better.

It's named to rhyme with Roomba after the vacuum cleaner robot and the way zumba works is that you go outward in a spiral pattern until you run into some one or thing at which point you change directions and repeat. Zumba class ends when you've been over the entire room at least once or you get stuck under something.

Quercus, that's pretty good and sometimes not that far from the truth, to be honest. The first few weeks before everyone has learned the dances, that's mostly what it's like.

Alright, just a quick update before I go to bed. Today was ok. No pain in my foot, which I was not expecting. I figured it might be a bit sore from zumba. It was when I first got up, but quickly worked itself out. My food was good and within the calorie limit, but I won't bore you with the details. Zumba again tomorrow! Also, I'll make sure to get caught up on everyone's diaries tomorrow as well.
