Hi Everyone,

psssst MONI - guess what?....a little later than I had hoped, but I finally made it to my christmas goal. I went swimming today with my son :D I am still not game to wear bathers, but I did wear some board shorts and a bather top. It was wonderful and I hate the fact its taken me 2 years & 7 months to do it.

Nearlythere40kg -Are you taking a supplement for calcium? I too was concerned about not getting enough, but I figure the diet is supposed to be a short term thing and for now a supplement will do. Once you are back eating normally you should be fine.

NAT - I think you did very well under extreme circumstances.

JOYSEY - Nice to see you on. You'll be hitting 59 before too long.

Mel - Congratulations on the weight loss - I'm sure all of us will be feeling the achievement with you when you hit double digits. Well on track for bikini time on the honeymoon ;)
Great idea about the icy poles. So simple makes you wonder why nobody said it earlier! That will be a nice treat in this hot weather.

Kayseysmum - glad to hear things are going better for you. Take it one day at a time :)

LMR - I think I may have a mini cleanout tommorow. I have no more room in my closet. I will probably do the same as you though and wait until after I've finished the diet.

Hows everyone else doing? Hope its going well for everyone.

Hi Gals

Just thought I'd check in and let you all know how I am doing after my bad day.
Firstly, I resisted the urge to hit the liquor cabinet last night. Instead I settled for a nectarine and some diet ginger beer.
I am still down in the dumps today, kind of a bit in shock I think and not quite sure what I want to do. I spent most of the day feeling hungry and wanting to numb my feelings with naughty foods. So my strategy to beat this was to stay in my pyjamas- that way I wouldnt go out for food. It worked. I have stuck religiously to Cohens all day. ;)

So at least some parts of my life are back on track :)

Mel, I finally got around to looking at where you're planning to have your reception- it looks lovely!

Hope everyone is doing well.
Nat:)

Pcos

I have been looking around the net this morning and have come across this info for anyone that has PCOS like myself and mel.....

Classic PCOS has the symptoms of weight gain, failure to ovulate, infrequent periods, infertility, facial hair, acne, hair loss and a predisposition to diabetes.
It is important to understand that the high testosterone is type 1 PCOS is actually the side effect. The real issue is insulin resistance (see Sensible News 17). It is insulin that inhibits ovulation and causes the ovaries to produce testosterone. It is insulin that is the main cause of weight gain. The symptoms of excessive testosterone, such as acne and facial hair will improve when insulin sensitivity improves.

Insulin resistance is caused by:

too many carbohydrates in the diet (about 30% of the population cannot cope with a "normal" amount of bread and sugar)
environmental toxins
birth control pill
damaged vegetable oils called trans fat (see Sensible News 10)
The correct treatment for Type 1 PCOS is to improve insulin sensitivity.

The birth control pill does absolutely nothing to improve insulin resistance, and can actually worsen it (1). The pill will cause a monthly bleed, but this is not a true period.

An endocrinologist will prescribe weight loss with a low GI diet and exercise, as well as a blood sugar lowering drug such as metformin. This is approximately the correct approach, but metformin does have side effects such as nausea, diarrhoea and abdominal bloating. Fortunately, there are natural alternatives to metformin, and, in my experience, they get better results.

Treatment Summary for Type 1 PCOS.
Diet - When the body is insulin resistant, it simply does not remember how to use carbohydrates for energy. It can only store them as fat. At the same time, an insulin resistant body does not have the ability to burn fat stores for energy. The solution is to restrict carbohydrates for six weeks to "remind" the body how to use them for energy. You may need to go down to 30 or 40 grams of carbohydrate per day, but you still must eat vegetables for their fibre and nutrition. Your best source of calories during this time is fat, not protein. Protein puts a stress on the kidneys, and is also converted easily into sugar, whereas fat is simply burned for energy.

Magnesium and chromium - Minerals to improve sensitivity of the insulin receptor

Gymnema, Fenugreek - Herbs to improve sensitivity of the insulin receptor

Homoeopathic Insulin & Leptin (See Sensible News 26) to improve insulin sensitivity and promote weight loss.

Homoeopathic testosterone or Paeony & Liquorice root can be used to lower testosterone, which will alleviate acne and facial hair.

LOOKS LIKE WE ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK MEL....IT HELPS ME TO KNOW THAT WE ARE NOW DOING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS...LOL

Still waiting ....

:) Hi everyone,

You are all doing well and make me even more impatient in regards to actually reciving my program. How long does it usually take for your plan to arrive ... i really want to get started. I have tried to eliminate types of foods this past week but am hopeless without anything in black and white that says you MUST do this - and truth is i keep telling myself "your plan will be here soon so enjoy it why you can" - hrm well i was expecting the plan this friday and aint to happy, but such is life huh?

Just popped in to see how you are all going.
divinemissnat - i thought i was the only one who did silly things to stop myself from going to get bad food, i usually put on a tshirt with my knickers and that well and truly keeps me inside. And if i feel like its going to be a bad day i dont do my hair and keep it looking like a big old mess which also works. Funny what we do huh? At least it keeps us thin and on track.:p

Anyway everyone i hope my plan arrives this week - and then i will be on here more, looking forward to getting to know you all. You are all inspiring and full of life and love and laughter - which gives this forum a warm family feeling, its like being out with your best girlfriends. Love it.

XOXO

The scales are stuck

Hi Everybody!

It seems my scales are stuck. I am becoming impatient now. I am seriously beginning to question if my scales can actually weigh anything under 57kg. I've been hovering around 57 for a while now. I keep weighing 57.8kg, 57.4kg, 57.8kg, 57.4, 57.2kg over and over and even this morning 57.0kg. Why oh why wont it go into the 56's??? Argghhhh!!!
I'm playing with my cracker allowance quantities so hopefully that will get things moving.

I thought it would be easier to stick to the program once I was back at work, because I would have something to distract my mind from telling me I am hungry. And in a way I was right but also so wrong! See, now that I'm back on the road I am subjected to many more temptations!!! Think to when you're in the shopping centre and you walk past the bakery, or smell the licorice outside a Darrell Lea or whatever it is that tempts you and how it takes everything you've got to resist. Now imagine doing it for 8 hours a day- over and over!!! My job puts me in that situation...

Pinkcandy- Good to see you on the forum again! I bet your program is just around the corner! Mine took 1 week, I'm sure it wouldn't take that much longer for Perth? Where abouts are you in Perth? (I'm an ex-Perthie) And you are so right about the knickers and t-shirt thing- that is my pyjamas! And I would never leave the house without doing my hair!!! Are we secretly sisters? :p

Nat :)

Hi Everyone,
Not much to report from my end. Very disappointed in myself.Have not only fallen off the wagon - I think I've trashed it as well.

NAT - Joysey swears by cutting out the crisbreads to see a drop in weight. It might help, you are so close to the drop in weight 56 won't be far off!.

MONI - WOW! I found your last post very interesting. One of the reasons this diet appealed to me was that I am hoping to regulate my cycles a little better. The whole term 'monthly' is foreign to me as my 'monthly' turns up weekly, fortnightly - basically whenever it feels like it. Then I am tortured with flooding as well. Not uncommon to get showered and dressed for work, get to work and have to come home 1/2 hour later to reshower and change clothes. Things have settled down marginally since commencing the diet, but nowhere near to what I would like.

PINKCANDY - fingers crossed for you. You must be very excited about starting the diet. Do you have much weight to lose? You'll have to get yourself a ticker so we can all see your progress.

Having a late breakfast today - left over chicken and asparagus soup. Its even nicer the next day. Normally there isnt any leftover, but my daughter is staying over at a friends house!

Keep up the good work ladies,

Myshy

Hi Everyone,

I've been reading this forum for the last 3 or 4 of weeks while I have been getting organised to start my program. I just moved interstate to Sydney recently and haven't told anyone I'm doing this cos next time I see them I want to see the look of total shock and surprise on their faces.

You are all such a great support network for each other and have been great at motivating me even though none of you have known it until now. Thank you all so much.

I started on Saturday and until today everything was going great. Today I was taken out for lunch for a business meeting and the restaurant that was chosen (not by me) had a menu that made it so difficult to stay even close to my plan, I chose as best as I could but I'm still disappointed that I couldn't even order a salad at this place - they don't do them!?!?!? Anyway tonight I'm back on track and am going to avoid any business lunches, dinners and drinks like they are smallpox!

I know its only day 4 for me but I really want this to work and I'm sorry to go on so much in my first post.

Blula

Bluda, I take my container of food EVERY where - even at restaurants! Today I am going to lunch with the girls from work and will be taking my own :) I think they make enough money out of all of the others and would not get much out of me anyway :)
I am back on the wagon, I keep playing around with about 3 kilos. As yet I am not back to what I was before xmas! so I have some work to do! I still need to lose about 18 Kilos.

Good News Day

Hi everyone and welcome to Blula

I didnt want to say anything yesterday in case it was a fluke, but after my whinge on stuck scales and playing with my cracker allowance I weighed in on Tuesday morning at 56.8kg! Which I was pretty rapt with, except that this morning I weighed in at 56.6kg!!!!! YAY!!!! Finally the scales moved in my favour!!! :D And I can make a change to my ticker!

I am playing a bit with carb cycling for when you're stuck in a plateau. I started doing this before Christmas and it seemed to be working, but I wanted to test it out a bit longer before I told you all. If I get results again in a couple of days I will most happily put the info here for anyone that it interested.

Hope everyone has a nice Australia Day! I'll probably be hiding out at home coz its gonna be 40 degrees tomorrow! Yecchhh!!!

Nat:)

Still waiting ....

Hi Everyone,

I am still waiting for my plan and really starting to get frustrated with the length of time its taking. I phoned up yesterday and was assured it had been posted on Monday so should reach me Friday the latest due to the australia day holiday. So fingers crossed it arrives tomorrow so i can start Saturday.

I really think this is going to be it for me - that i am going to be successful at losing weight and getting slim and start liking my body. You all inspire me. I am also joining CURVES gym tomorrow night with my bestmate - its a womens only gym and looks pretty awesome. I know they tell you not to get to obsessive about exercising on Cohens so i am going to go about 4 times a week ... i was talking to the lady there (so nice) and told her i was soon to be starting Cohens and she said that when you go on low calorie/low carb diets it is a good idea to get some exercise as your muscles can waste and that exercsing can actually rev the metabolism and give your weight loss a nudge. She is great ... she is going to monitor my weight loss and fat loss weekly which will be good. Sorry for the dribble ppl.

Just a question - what "CRACKERS" do you believe to be the best? I love cruskits and was just wondering which ones are the best. Also got a good tip from a customer who said she makes her meat and veg stirfry at night and just as it finishes cooking she crumbles up her cruskits and stirs them in giving the stir fry a crunchy feel.

Ciao All and have a great AUSSIE DAY!!!
PINKCANDY xox:)

Did anyone see the peice on the news last night where the group of aboriginal people were having a protest saying it was only a celebration for take over day???  Ever heard such garbage??? Its no wonder people are racism and take on the opinion they do,??? Imagine if they were still primitive beings in the bush?? No doubt they would still be stealing from us??? !!!!(That is all written in history books).

You cannot be crusivifed for telling the truth, and its the freedom of speech. Anyway!!!!!!

How have you lost 5kg's in a week?

my weight has slowed down...... I was very unhappy about it the other day so i got on the phone to my clinic and she said not to be unhappy because I was in the top 20% in Australia with my weight loss so I didn't feel as bad..... but still a little under the weather.....

Good luck everyone hope you had a great Australia day.........

LIzzi: Keep posting Moni

I am one of the guests who reads and doesn't normally post. Posting is just not something I normally do. It is really encouraging to see all of your progress - please don't stop. you are doing a good thing by supporting each other - and a lot more people like myself.

And Moni don't be discouraged, you are doing SOOOOO.... well. I am in the bottom 10%. In over 6 months I haven't broken intentionally at all - except for some extra diet coke or chewing gum. Not even for Christmas Day. And you are already ahead. I started in early July to get to where I am. So be encouraged, you are doing really really well.

I agree with lizzi. I have been reading the post for the last few days, and have only just registered, it's great to see that other people are going through what i am going through.

BTW, hi all :)

Well, i figured out how to get the ticker thing working so dont worry about that, but a few questions for all of you out there...

Yesterday i had a bit of a 'dizzy spell'. i couldnt stand up and had to go for a nap. Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else? :(

I read a few posts ago that diet coke or coke zero isnt allowed bcs of the caffine, but then how come tea and coffee are allowed?? (i practically live on the stuff, and would be loathe to give it up.)

You all seem like a great group of people, and i'm glad i found a support network :)

re: coffee and coke

HI there,

the coffee and coke have a different caffine content, I was told that it was a different caffine...... thats why we are able to have coffee and not normal coke...... Hope that answers your question.

have a nice day

My weight loss

Moni:

I have stuck to the program religiously this week, I have not eaten the fruit or crackers though, I don't really need them. And lots of water nearly 7 lt a day. Lots of wee wee.......

Also please remember I lost over half my weight before I joined cohens, so My loss with cohens exclusivly isn't that high, although its still alot.

I am a bit dubious about posting info on here as there are too any fence sitter....having said that, I'm off.

Have a good weekend ......

This is a Weight Loss Forum and NOT a Political Opinion Forum.

I am shocked and disappointed to see the above posting on what I consider to be one of the most open and friendly sites.

I would have expected more from someone, who having been overweight may have been the brunt of social stigmatism and suffered from narrow minded comments from insensitive people who know no better.

If you look back at your history books, I think you will find it is the colonists who stole from the Aboriginals, their land was stolen, their freedom stolen and their children stolen.

Please keep your, inappropriate, cruel and insensitive comments to yourself and not in this forum, I’d also recommend a little bit of reading on Australian history just so you don’t go embarrassing yourself again.

You should also be wary of posting on a public forum, as some people on this site may have Aboriginal heritage.
